The Villain of Tomorrow Thread

I don’t want to get ahead of myself and get my hopes up… but yeah, I’ll be really surprised if it’s not Brainiac.

He’s just too perfect as both a mental and physical threat to force a SuperLuthor team-up.

For the record, I'm not one of those "all villains need Thanos-like buildup" people, but frankly, Brainiac just feels much better suited for a 3rd finale movie than the middle movie, but I guess that has already worked well (to put it mildly) with Joker on The Dark Knight.

If it’s Mongul, I’ll be happy from a story perspective. I’ve wanted to see a Mongul/Superman story for a long time.

The obvious thing to do is to swap Draaga for Lobo. Let’s get Martian Manhunter in here too.

But goddamn if it ain’t Brainiac, that’s crazy. He’s so overdue. But tbh it might be wise to save him for a third movie (but that might never happen). I’m tired of DC saving villains for sequels that never ****ing happen. Seriously Snyder? Steppenwolf? Ok dawg.

I think Brainiac not being in this wouldn’t sting so bad if the villains in Superman weren’t so weak. Lex was fine but I think the biggest mistakes in that movie were using Ultraman and Engineer instead of like Bizarro and Metallo or Parasite.

When I think of overall story for superman and Lex, Brainiac makes the most sense as a villain.

I would like to see Mongul but I struggle to see a story that doesn't take him off world and part of the strength of the character is the supporting cast at the daily planet.

I don't think they have the luxury of saving any villains. This is the 3rd big screen reboot and what, 7th or 8th live action iteration. They can't play it safe and save anything.

I do think Ultraman and the engineer were missed opportunities to use bizzaro and another of his actual villains. But I completely understand why he did it. Selfishly, I do want to see metallo and parasite but I feel like those stories would be small and you know Hollywood, each sequel seems like it has to be bigger.

Yeah the whole “save the villlain everyone wants to see for a sequel or [insert huge crossover film here]” is a bad strategy, especially when so much of Superman’s actual rogues gallery has been underutilized. In movies, we’ve had… Lex 5 times, Zod twice, Ultraman/Bizarro (sort of), the Engineer, Nuclear Man and Richard Pryor. But yeah. Let’s save Brainiac because he’s “too big” for a Superman movie, despite the fact that 99% of the stories he’s appeared in were Superman stories in the comics and cartoons.

I mean, we’ve already gone one movie without Brainiac, and that’s just in this continuity. Why exactly do we need to go for a second? That just feels superfluous.

It’d actually be insane if it’s not Brainiac at this point.

A third film is World’s Finest with President Luthor ;)

A Public Enemies inspired Worlds Finest movie sounds amazing and should’ve been the inspiration for BVS. It should’ve been Lex and Metallo (in Scoot McNairy’s role) in that movie! No Death of Superman BS when it’s so unearned.

Why risk your sequel being underwhelming just to "save" Brainiac for a hypothetical third movie you might not even get? Worry about your third movie later.
Yup. It has always left my speechless when I hear a director ( of any film ) say "just wait until the sequel, that's when thing really take off".
They don't even know if a sequel will happen or not.

Would people believe a convicted felon could be president though? Seems unlikely…
