The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending

It has nothing to do with her voice or performance, which is what we were talking about. So because she will be dubbed in some place, that changes her performance in English? It is a ridiculous argument to make, especially on an English speaking forum.

My comment was a direct response to people who say every time she opens her mouth, they think of Meg from Family Guy. I think that won't happen to people who don't watch Family Guy or who will watch a dubbed version of Jupiter Ascending. I didn't talk about her performance. Just her voice.

Also your last sentence regrading English forum only shows you have a very narrow perspective.

Am I the only one who has no idea what the hell is going on in the trailer?

Jupiter's from Earth but she's, like, a princess or something (totally has an important destiny or is part of some prophecy to save lots of people) and there's this guy with funny ears who's her protector on some other planet or world, so he takes her up into space with him (hence Jupiter ascends) were people bow to her because they believe she's special and then all this crazy stuff happens and an epic battle ensues.

So basically, it's the plot of The Matrix.

Especially if you've never actually seen The Matrix :o

No, I figured it was a joke, hence my smiley, but I do believe you're not even close to the mark. That sounds like The Matrix to you

You can't say that the Wachowski's aren't ambitious, if nothing else.

A seemingly average person who others believe/know to be a "chosen one" who is "destined for great things" is removed from everyday life and thrust into a "world" she didn't know existed and doesn't understand, into a battle that could alter the cosmos and change everything.

That doesn't sound like the Matrix to you?

Jupiter/Neo even falls in love with Caine/Trinity (the person who tracked her down), as seen by the kissing in this trailer.

You're breaking down to the most general of terms, though, even more general than your last post. I mean, whatever, I'm not going to argue it with you. You see what you want to see.

The trailer didn't work for me.

Sure, there's a couple of nice imagery but I find Mila Kunis bland in the lead role. It just doesn't feel quite right.

Right, I was breaking it down to show that as far as we know, this plot of this film follows a similar formula to The Matrix. The general ideas of the stories are in line with one another, even if the plot intricacies will differ. Not really a criticism of this new movie, but more of an observation.

You already seem to be an ardent supporter of Jupiter Ascending. Therefore, you refuse to see what you do not want to see. :ninja:

I do have to agree that the plot's a bit cliche but..I'm a man of two minds about it. I think formulas that are tried and true can work..it just matters what you do with it.

trust me the Wachowskis asked WB if they can have Kunis in a short skirt fighting men.

hahah

My prejudice against Tatum prevented me to fully enjoy the trailer but it was visually ok.
Wait & See.

I find her the same in everything. Even in Black Swan, she was pretty much Jackie without the one-liners.

Man you guys are HARSH. I don't think Kunis is a great versatile actress but I think she is fine for comedies and big special effects films in the right roles of course. I'm more worried about Tatum because he was the least interesting actor in WhiteHouse Down. As I said the action hero thing ain't flying with me.

Yeah, Tatum kind of stuck out here (at least when he spoke). It seems like Bean and Redmayne stepped out of LOTR or Game of Thrones but his character just seemed like some NFL player attending a Star Trek convention.

:lmao: That is the perfect description!

Looks visually impressive, but also doesn't look that good an overall film. I'll hazard a guess and say Sean Bean dies in this movie, as is tradition.

WB has pushed the film up a week, it'll now open July 18, 2014. The same mid-July date that's been a good-luck for WB since 2007.

this is the first 3D movie for them. hmmm interesting. i dont think i read if they filmed with 3D cameras.
