The Wachowskis Returning to Sci-Fi with Jupiter Ascending

You like him for the same reason we like Kate Upton.
I get that it's a pure physical attraction or whatever but I don't even get it from that angle. Honestly I think I'm more sexually attracted to Kate Upton than Channing Tatum. The woman just has "it."

That date must be cursed. I remember Days of Future Past and the third Hobbit were supposed to open on July 18th and those both moved (even though X-Men moved up).

Maybe GOTG will move up two weeks and take its spot?

A whole lot of people lasciviously anticipating Guardians of the Galaxy are pooping on Jupiter Ascending.

Ah, the power of brands.

Because beyond being sci-fi, what do they really have in common?

Channing clearly is more fun to watch as a comedic actor or at least a role that isn't played 100% serious. And I don't know who decided Mila Kunis should be the next big thing, but her acting is passable at best.

Movies that were pushed back don't usually improve, such as GI Joe: Retaliation (another Tatum movie). I think this is a sign that WB saw the movie but didn't like it, so they decided to move it to next year where competition may be weaker.

No it's not. Mid-July has been a vote of confidence in the past for WB, and why they waited until now to push it back (with nothing to replace it) is beyond me. But it would explain why Lucy, Hercules, Purge 2 and a few others shuffled up to late July.

I think it's a bit last minute for GOTG to move up to July 18th, especially since Disney already has their Planes sequel in that spot.

Black Swan says hello.

Umm...wow. WB must have hated this thing.

At least in the case of G.I. Joe: Retaliation, it ended up being a blockbuster and made profit. Jupiter Ascending will not, especially in the graveyard that is January/February.

Black Swan says hello.

I knew someone would cite that as an example. I didn't find her to be anything memorable. She was a foil for Portman, but Portman acted circles around her.

I will admit that Channing was good in Side Effects. It was a smaller role, but one played more seriously than most of his others as of late.

I forgot that Sex Tape is coming out on July 18th. That is going to make a killing that weekend. And The Purge: Anarchy will be nipping away while Dawn of the Planet of the Apes getting the #2 spot on it's second weekend, Jupiter Ascending had no chance if it was even remotely s***ty.

:o

There are films that do well in February and there are films that do not do well. February in and of itself doesn't have to be a death sentence but I think it's safe to say it is when you abruptly move your weird looking 150million dollar sci-fi film out of it's July 18th slot. The W-siblings have also been on a losing streak so yeah, not looking good.

This sounds like a disaster on paper. The budget was preposterous to begin with, Kunis is not a star and the story looks very hard sci-fi which not many people might embrace and the trailers look really muddled all over the place.

It would definitely have lost money had it been released in July. International would have been ok but domestic would have been bad. I would venture it would not make more than 330-350 worldwide which still mean that it would lose money given the budget.

Maybe they get a lifeline by pushing it off 6 months, tweaking the movie, cutting better trailers and a better marketing campaign.

But jeez this does not surprise, Hollywood is increasingly making bad calls on a lot of big budget films.

Some time after this news hit, Spielberg was hitting in his house saying "I knew it."

Black Swan says hello.

I think Kunis was good but not great in Black Swan, and like Samsnee said she acted like a foil for Portman's white swan character. And after Black Swan, I don't think Kunis has really proved that it wasn't just a fluke, because she hasn't had any memorable roles since. I saw the trailer for Jupiter Ascending, and I don't she will have a breakthrough performance there.

It is not even a performance type film at all.

If the film bombs, it will harm her career and probably kill her chances at every being a lead. It is a hit, it would further Tatum's career!

I don't think this is furthering anyone's career, even if it is a success (doubtful).

Every single little success is now adding to Tatum's career. If all goes per plan, he could be a superstar soon.

Having constant hits help. I think 22 Jump Street will be a hit.
Then he's slate to get potentially his first Oscar nomination for Foxcatcher. Then there's this movie coming up. And then potentially X-Men Apocalypse and his own Gambit franchise. He already has the Magic Mike franchise.

Why would WB/Roadshow wait this long to push Jupiter Ascending to February? I don't buy the "we need more time on the VFX" excuse, that hasn't stopped studios from subcontracting effects work to other houses to finish movies on time.

VFX work was near complete and done in the screening in April. The only thing not finished was the score. The reaction to that screening was..well..less than favorable and that's putting it mildly.

I doubt it's the VFX slate UNLESS they have reshot scenes involving VFX shots.
Either way expect WB taking a different approach promoting this flick.

Pfft... how little you know about our flickchick, terry. That's right, flickchick, I know what your true kryptonite is...

Damn you, Sawyer, you've exposed my weakness to the world.

...but thank you for that picture... *right-click, saves*:atp:

So I guess some prescreenings didn't go quite to plan.

Seems like it.
WOnder if they will also reshoot scenes with Channing and Mila

we dont know where the story goes in the second and third act. those are the Wachowskis. its never a stupid dumb plot. its never simple.

only thing we know is what we saw in the trailer. bad acting from Kunis and Tatum and strange scifi designs( god bless the wachowskis for trying something new and strange)

we knew this was bombing in december 2013.

Just heard the news. Damn, WB must have no confidence in this huh?
