i see some unique action scenes. yeah baby.

to bad that we will not get the final cut on the big screen. we all know that the reshoots happened to make this into a more conventual hollywood movie.

Action looks cool. SFX looks cool

Eddie Reymane's performance looks horrid. Which fis funny because he's being named as a strong Oscar contender

Mila Kunis' performance doesnt look that good either

I think Mila is good but she's limited to what genre she's in. Like Natlie Portman, I don't believe Mila in a sci-fi/fantasy setting. From Oz to Star Wars.

i have a feeling that the old version of the female character is from the reshoots.

Portman hasnt really been in good sci fi though. Same with Kunis.
I think i'd believe them with a goof script

Where are you getting this from?

I do wish that alien/lizard/dragon man was practical (and CGI when he's flying about.) He doesn't look real.

I thought this trailer was better than the other ones but unfortunately it still looks like a netflix movie to me. The W-siblings are so frustrating to me, this trailer brought back Matrix Reloaded feelings. Oh how disappointed I was 11 years ago...

Yeah, now if Kunis or Portman was doing something like Europa Report... that'd be a much better acting indicator. Not Jupiter Ascending.

Visually and in terms of design its nowhere near "blah." Im not sure about the story tho. Could be a mess.

I'm starting to wish they'd go back to having to create actual models of the ships in sci-fi.

Now that stuff is CGI, the ships are turning into overly complicated messes.

Spaceships or any kind of engineered machinary tends to be a visually complicated thing. I understand what you mean tho. CGI crafts are visually "busy" with lots of superfluous stuff. Whereas you look at a model like the X-Wing which is "busy" but it doesnt look as showy. Normally I would be right there with you on this, but think about the society that this film is dealing with.

The society appears to be a post-futuristic hyper-aristocracy with god complexes. The society appears to be very very very wealthy as well. Everything seems to be designed with an artistic flare to further reinforce their status within the galaxy and to show that limits are beneath them. This seems like a society that would design crafts like this. And why wouldnt they? They are obviously the top society in the galaxy so what's to stop them? Their imagination is the limit. I know people balk at visuals like this film presents, but they fit the society that the film is dealing with.

And Im telling you right now, if money wasnt an object and mankind could do anything it wanted and was a class 2 or 3 civilization we would probably create stuff that makes the stuff in this film look like a child's 1st grade frigde drawing.

So as long as the designs fit within the universe the film is presenting I see no reason to fault the Wachowski's for going big and grand. Complicated or showy isnt bad. Cinema has always been about pushing the imagination. The visuals and stuff on display are the kind of stuff Ive dreamed about seeing since I started reading sci-fi and imagining the future and hyper advanced civilizations.

I was thinking more of Star Trek.

Plus, I was noticing this is just a symptom of modern design. After watching Pacific Rim and Godzilla. That something about modern design is creating realistically textured creatures but the machines/ creatures lack a sense of weight.

I don't know if I'm explaining it correctly.

Like in Pacific Rim. I understood that the mechs were from different countries but they were supposed to of different generations as well, but there wasn't really any visual distinction that made you say... damn that's a rust bucket.

The last movie that actually struck me in it's design was actually John Carter.

There was a clear design progression in Pacific Rim imo. The Russian model, the oldest one, didnt even have a traditional head and you can tell it was designed without form in mind. It also had some definite wear and tear. Whereas the later models became more visually refined and "slick". And Gypsy had a nuclear reactor in its chest. Something newer models lacked. And remember that the jagers (mechs) were only like 8 years old at the time of the film. Even the oldest ones wouldnt be rust bucket if they were regularly maintained which they seemed to be. Steel doesnt degrade and break down that quick.

Empire reports that most of the ship shots in Interstellar were achieved with models, one of which used for exterior shots was actuallly at 80% scale.

Elysium actually used a ton of model work as well.

he doesnt look real enough. i agree.

but the design couldnt be done with practical effects. not enough human features.

Jupiter Ascending Trailer 3

[Yt]6Zy8HexagEE[/MEDIA]

Hmm... This is a far better trailer than the first one... And it still looks like generic, by the numbers blockbuster film making which say what ever you want about the W. Bros, they don't usually do. I don't like SPEED RACER, but just looking at it you can tell they put major creative effort, same for CLOUD ATLAS or any of the MATRIX TRILOGY. The trailers for this film look... Bland and souless, and having TWO leads that are more than capable of giving bland performances, especially when appearing in fantasy/action films... I can't say that any of what I have seen intrigues me in the least.

It reminds me of some fairy tale, but in space.

Maybe Warner Brothers are just marketing a weird movie in the most generic and, what they see as, audience friendly way possible?

nope. the W siblings need a movie to make money. Cloud Atlas and Speed Racer were huge bombs.

Jupiter Ascending is them trying to make a movie by the numbers. of course it failed when they decided to writte a story that is so weird hahahaha.

after two movies bombed they decided to have an ex-military hunter who has both human and wolf DNA. and he is albino. thats how you do it. :woot::up:

^ They keep throwing that "albino" term around but the character doesn't look albino at all.

Also there are Reptilians in this movie. I didn't see this mentioned before.

he is hollywood albino. blonde that looks sexy hah :)

Wachowski's had written a really good (and fairly grounded) movie script called Assassins (1995) which was directed by Richard Donner.

So, they can write, or at least were able to write decent movie scripts in past. :oldrazz:

Edit: In fact, I'm surprised that inspite of Donner's skills, no one offered him a Bond movie.
