He's got a unique, goofy, alternative look, he's kind of like the Mickey Dolenz of the group. A lot of 1D fans, especially girls 15 and under, dig boys that are cute but not in a sexual way, it's the appropriate amount of boy-interest for a lot of girls that age.

Or at least are not that experienced with girls, specifically. I'm thinking of H from Steps and Jon from S Club 7, who basically fulfilled the same role in their respective groups, who then came out later in life. (That those two looked really similar is really strange too). And also Stephen Gately from Boyzone.
