Good mid-season premiere, which shouldve been the mid season finale, imho. I hope the rest of 6b will maintain its momentum. And wont take place between 1-2 days like 6a.
Im glad they concluded the quarry walker herd and the Wolf arc. As well as Ricks entire group finally being reunited after episode 6.1. The story can finally move forward.
That opening was unexpected and hilarious and had me nearly cheering, where Daryl blows away Negans gang with the RPG. I was expecting them to only rob Daryl, Abe, and Sasha of their weapons, fuel truck, and just leave them stranded in the middle of nowhere. It was great seeing Daryl kicking butt again. Its been a while. That RPG is a cool upgrade from the crossbow.
Im glad the writers remembered Heath. Hes been absent for 5 episodes without any mention. Congrats to Gabriel (though I wouldn't have trusted him with Judiths life), Eugene and most importantly Alexandria finally stepping up. Most of this season the ASZ community were becoming a self parody of how helpless they were.
Some nitpicks and complaints..
[BLACKOUT]Jessie, Sam, and Rons deaths didnt have the impact they were aiming for, imo b/c I wasnt heartbroken when they killed Jessie. The quick flashbacks of Jessie felt forced. Plus I thought the Rick and Jessie romance was underdeveloped. I was surprised her death was more tame than Sams though.[/BLACKOUT]
Carol is getting too callous. [BLACKOUT]She scarred Sam, when she scared him at that party. which led to his gruesome death. She jumped to conclusions killing that Wolf, when he was trying saving Denise from the walkers. Hopefully Denise tells her that the Wolf saved her life and was willing having a change of heart. She was more concerned about that Wolf than a walker herd invading the inside of the community[/BLACKOUT]
I'm somewhat disappointed where the writers took the Wolves storyline. We never got a backstory on them. The writers left their whole way of life and philosophy a mystery. Plus they got less threatening each episode especially after Conquer and JSS.[BLACKOUT] I didnt feel like it was a satisfying conclusion for the last Wolf standing.[/BLACKOUT] Was the Wolf reformed or not? A wasted plotpoint to prove to Morgan his philosophy is wrong.
During the middle of season 5 somebody( from SHH) posted a comment about [BLACKOUT]Carls eye getting shot[/BLACKOUT] around this point in the comics without using spoiler tags. So that moment didnt have the impact it shouldve on me either.
Oh yeah and got to love the unlimited amount of ammo in that firearm they gave Glenn when he attempted to save Maggie from that platform. It puts Hershels unlimited ammo rifle from the season 2 finale to shame, but he at least reloaded.
