The Walking Dead "The Walking Dead" General Stuff & Thaaaangs Thread - - - - Part 13

I think I’m going to give this season a chance. See how it plays out.

This Beta casting just reminds me that I've never watched Sons of Anarchy. Looking forward to Beta's scenes with Negan, though.

Spoiler-free review of The Walking Dead season 9 premiere
To be perfectly transparent to the TWD Family, Season 9 of The Walking Dead will look and feel a lot different than previous seasons. After spending two seasons mired in battle with the Saviors, this is a good thing. Angela Kang and her team are taking the show in a new direction that feels very natural without taking away the elements that fans have come to love. If anything, my biggest takeaway from watching the first few episodes of season 9 is that all of the things I have been missing from the show are back.

They’re back in a big way.

And it’s pretty damn awesome.
'The Walking Dead' Season 9 (Spoiler-Free) Review: Is This A Comeback?
I've watched the first episode of The Walking Dead's ninth season and I can confidently say that it's the best episode since Season 6 and better than many in that season as well.

I will not go so far as to say that we're back to the golden age of Walking Dead television, but we do seem to be out of the weeds. If nothing else, the show has taken a turn for the better. Whether the rest of the season can maintain this uptick in quality remains to be seen.

As previously noted, some of the show's oldest problems persist, so I remain worried about what we'll encounter later on in the season. But I have a glimmer of hope as well. I wasn't expecting that, to be honest. The last two seasons were so irredeemably awful that I had all but given up on The Negan And Friends Show. Now, for the first time in years, I'm actually looking forward to the next episode. I'm looking forward to The Walking Dead returning to what made it so entertaining to begin with. I'm not holding my breath, mind you, but I'm more optimistic than ever.

That may not be a ringing endorsement, but it's more than I could muster for two long, dragged out seasons. And that's something.

Very happy to see great promise for Season 9 from these early reviews. Andy's departure is still a little souring no matter how improved this season will potentially be.

Angela Kang on 'The Walking Dead's Return to Glory Days
"I also was such a fan of the pilot and so I wanted to kind of try to, aspire to, recapture some of that feeling of the silences and those beautiful wide landscapes, and just the loneliness that can be in the world," Kang said. "Except now, we're in a part where we really see that the characters have found this group and they're very tight with each other. So, you get to feel that the warmth between them while there's also conflict.

"We had a lot of conversations, before the season started, with the DPs, about the look of the show and how we can maximize the use of film since we still shoot on film, which almost nobody does. What can we do to make it look as beautiful as possible? As well as the Art Department, we had a lot of conversations about, 'What does this world they're building look like? And how can we call back to medieval architecture, and western looks, to set the brand new look of the show?' It was sort of like re-starting the whole look."

Pretty good reviews. I’m kinda getting excited for the new season.

I am predicting right now the mid-season finale ends with Alpha's wall, and Rick takes Ezekiel's place on said wall.

10 Things We Learned on the Set of 'The Walking Dead' Season 9 [Set Visit Report]
“I was such a fan of the pilot, and so I wanted to try to recapture some of that feeling of the silences and the beautiful, wide landscapes and the loneliness that can be in the world,” Kang said. “Except now, we’re in a part where we really see the characters have found this group and they’re very tight with each other. So, you get to feel that warmth between them, while there are also conflicts.” Greg Nicotero—who’s worn many hats throughout the run of the series, including directing and spearheading the makeup and visual effects, agreed with Kang: “It’s really about going back to what made The Walking Dead great when you started watching it. I want you to be able to lean in and listen to everything that [the characters] are saying because they say more than 3 or 4 f***ing things. They have real conversations, conversations that you give a s**t about.”
Tell us how you really feel, Nicotero. :funny:

So right on the heels of learning that Scott Wilson and Sonequa Martin-Green will be returning as Hershel and Sasha respectively- presumably for a dream sequence- Scott Wilson has passed away.

Oh man RIP Scott Wilson, he was so awesome as Hershall, one of my favourite TWD characters ever.

Total bummer about Scott Wilson. I absolutely adored that man.

It's a serious loss. RIP. :(
