The "Why So Serious? Gotham City Noir" RPG: Sign-Up/OOC Thread

Ok, I completely understand that I am being the biggest pain in the ass about this. I think this one is final, so I am dropping Firefly and picking up someone else in return.

Screenname: Syn (Mercenary)

Gothamite you would like to portray: Waylon Jones AKA Killer Croc

Class of society: (Choose one) Rule Breaker

Resume: (Brief character biography) Waylon Jones was a young boy growing up in the Narrows of Gotham. He soon developed a condition that turned his body more and more like a reptile. His parents soon discovered it was exposure to dangerous chemicals in their home and food which caused his condition. Waylon was mocked and made fun of in school as his condition worsened.

Waylon ran away from home at age 17, not being able to take the harassment anymore. By this point, his condition was almost at its peak, and Waylon looked like a true human mutation. Waylon found solice in the sewers. There he was not the loser, the freak, the outcast. He was the top of the food chain. As the years past, Waylon's time alone gave him time to think about all that had been done to him. He soon rationailized that he was different, and this difference about him should be used for him, not against. He has recently chosen to use his powers for personal gain, to terrorize humanity, and do whatever he pleases where ever he pleases.

Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Enhanced strength, senses, agility, reflexes, durability and stamina. He has large claws and sharp teeth. He seems to possess a healing factor, crocodile like tendencies, scales, and power.

Known associates: (NPC's needed to be attached to your character) None.

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:

1. Killer Croc is an interesting character. He's conflicted with his intelect and instinct.

2. Some variations show him as a ruthless intelligent man, others show him as a crazy monstser. I hope to put him at a level that is believable and permanent.

3. Being one of Batman's more aggressive foes should prove fun.

Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations (ex: What does he/she believe in? How does he/she connect with Gotham City? What grinds your character's gears?):
Waylon wants to be left alone to do what he pleases. At times, he sees his condition as a gift, but more than not, he sees himself as a monster, and desperately wants to return to normal.

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:

The sewers of Gotham. A place more feared to tread than the streets above. Many rumors come about from the odd occurances in the earth beneath the city. Some say ghosts haunt the endless pipes, the souls of those long killed. Others say the rats in the sewers have become so aggressive, they would eat you alive upon entrance. But the most believed and popular reason is that monsters live there. Monsters of all kind that are hideous, ghastly, and ruthless.

The streets of Gotham are silent in this section of the city. The steam billows up from the ground as the sky suddenly opens up above. Within moments, the buildings below are barraded with heavy drops of water. The rain falls so thicky that fish could walk on the land.

A manwhole begins to stir, the metal covering coming up and dropping back down. After a few moments, the metal covering moves up, and is pushed over onto the water filled street. The metal scraping against the hard ground makes a loud noise, scaring the rats of the streets into hiding. A strange figure emerges from the manwhole, coming up from the ground and onto the surface. It wears tattered and stained clothes, barely enough to cover its figure.

The strange creature looks up at the sky, staring blankly and quietly. The rain falls on its face, and the drops fall down its cold scaly skin. Suddenly, the creature hears a noise, and quickly turns around. It sees a small boy standing on the otherside of the street, staring at him in fear. The creatures orange eyes glow in the darkness as it stares back. The small boy shivers in fear, his mind telling him to run, but his body paralyzed in fear.

"Who are you...m-mister?" The boy calls out, attempting to do something other than stand. The creature continues to stare back, its eyes failing to blink. The boy continues to shake, panic welling up inside him. Tears begin to slowly fall down his face as he thinks about his parents, and how he wishes he could run back inside to them.

"M-mister?" He calls out again. Suddenly, the creature moves, and begins to walk toward the alley. Just before it dissapears into the dark back path, it turns back to the boy.

"Get...inside kid." It says with a hiss. "Monsters roam these streets."

I... really can't accept this, as it is.

Truthfully, I really liked your application and particularly your sample, but you've got it down to the point that he has enhanced strength, senses, and the like, whereas a simple skin condition could've been passed. And we just had this talk with Byrd, with the whole no-powers realism route. (A talk of which he weaseled out of by calling my mother a protestant ****e.)

Sorry, man, but Croc's powers can't be used here.

Mmmh...alright, I will edit the app and repost it, altering his so called "powers."

Factoids of interest: (Special attributes - IE: Weapons, attire... anything needed to be known) Waylon has a strange skin condition, giving him the appearance of scales and discolored skin. The condition has also turned his pupils red, distorting his face and features.

After he went into seclusion, he began physically training himself, aspiring to improve his physical power. Due to the condition, Waylon's nails have thickened and grown to a point where they are like sharp talons. The disease has also caused his body to increase in it's size, making him larger than an average human being, and truly turning him into a "freak."

Ok, edited.

I like it. It actually seems like something you'd see on Dateline.

Approved.

Yeah, I got to say thanks for not approving me the first time. "Depowering" croc, so to speak, makes the character much more interesting and challenging to play. With an unknown disease only causing him to become hideous, instead of giving him powers, there can be more to him. I will definently use this to the character's benefit.

Cyrus? It's been a while since we've seen a Riddler post.

Sorry, I've been busy, I've been doing a lot of pre-production work in the real world. I'll see what I can do.

Posting this for the the third time, hoping MB will finally see it:
FBI FILES - THE FIVE FAMILIES OF GOTHAM CITY

- The Falcone family
Currently in disarray, the Falcone family was originally headed up by Carmine "The Roman" Falcone. It seems that the vigilante Batman has a personal vendetta against this family, having worked hard to break up the organisation, even before the death of Carmine. Alberto Falcone, the Roman's son, recently returned. What role he will play is uncertain.

- The Maroni family
Succeeding his father Luigi "Big Lou" Maroni, Salvatore Maroni runs a tight ship. With the Falcone family out of the works for a while and the Zucco family just up and running, Maroni is undoubtedly the most powerful mob boss in Gotham. The other families are just too minor to resist. Maybe we could guide the Bat to Maroni. Sal seems to like the high life.

-> Off-shoot: The Zucco crew
Headed up by Tony Zucco, currently spending time in jail on a weapons charge. Expected to be out in a few months. Originally a member of Maroni's family but was able to convince a few members of the broken Falcone family to join his side. His right-hand man Edward Skeevers runs things in Zucco's place. The anomisity between Maroni and Zucco has simmered to a truce, but one that could break at any time.

- The Bertinelli family
Influential family, but without a lot of resources. The head of the family, Guido Bertinelli is showing some striking resemblances to Tony Soprano. Talks a big game, and is very personal about his honour. We've got multiple tabs on them. If we ever plan to take him down, we'll need some leverage to convince some of Guido's family to flip. He has a daughter, Helena Rosa Bertinelli, who might be useful in that capacity. The family has close ties to the Inzerillo's.

- The Inzerillo family
The family with the least public exposure. Jack Inzerillo has made sure that his family stays out of the limelight, thereby avoiding the GCPD and Gotham's vigilantes. Sources in both the GCPD and the criminal circuit say there's a Detective with ties to the family: Detective Sergeant Vincent Del Arrazio. He's a cousin to Jack. He could be useful; he's worked with us before.

- The Moxon family
This family's business has been slow for a while now, but the return of Lew Moxon, the boss, chances are that is about to change. Rumours are abound about the potential succesor to the aging mob boss. Moxon has relatively legit ambitions, having a failed career in politics and spending some time amongst the rich and famous of Gotham before going into exile.

I see it now.

I'm adding it, along with the updates needed to be made to the character roster.

I just got The Batman Series I, and I was watching the episode "The Man who would be Bat" and came up with an awesome origin that would fit Nolan's "No Powers or magical serums" rule for Man-Bat. So hear me out:
"Gotham City Noir" RPG Application

Screenname:
Climperoonie

Gothamite you would like to portray: Dr. Kirk Langstrom, AKA Man Bat.

Class of society:Rule Breaker

Resume: Kirk Langstrom was a worker at Wayne Industries who studied Bats. He was fascinated with the Batman, but thought his idea of using fear for good was wrong. So he decided he would show Batman how a rule bat works. He built a suit that looks like a monstrous bat, with a Jet-Pack built into the suit's back. On his first night out as the Man Bat, his Jet-Pack fail, making the interior of the costume heat and meld with Langstrom's body. Langstrom managed to rapair the pack, but was trapped as the Man-Bat.

Factoids of interest: Man-Bat has a costume that looks like a giant humaniod bat-thing. He can flie due to his suit, but if his pack is damaged, he can use the hand-glider style wings attached to his arms to float to safety. His costume is also permanately attached to his body.

Known associates: None

Three integral reasons behind choosing the character:
1.
I need a new character because I need to be in this pwnage RPG.
2. I thought this would be a suitable way to portray Man-Bat in the Nolan-verse
3.
Batman will have a sort of evil twin if this gets approved.

Please provide a brief explaination behind your character's motivations: Batman is using his fear in the wrong way, according to Langstrom, so he wants to show Batman how it's done.

Please provide a small sample post, in the format you plan to portray this identity, with three paragraphs at minimum:
"Well, well, well, Batman certainly has been busy over these few months."
I say as I look through my newspaper clippings of the Bat. He's so fascinating. What sort of a man would dress as a Bat? I knew it was the same kind as me. And I'll prove that to Gotham soon. I sit in my small lab at Wayne Industries. I tinker with my pride and joy, well, the torso of it, anyway. I'm developing a costume to show Bats how you're meant to use fear. You're not meant to use it for good, fear is a bad emotion, to be used for bad things. Not arresting criminals. I finish it, and place it down with the rest of the suit. I fit it onto a chair, and then connect the legs to it. I place the arms on, too. I then pull torn pants over the legs, for added effect.

"Time to test you out, my little beauty."
I smile, admiring my handiwork. I should have been an inventor. I check the arms and legs are properly connected before stepping into the suit through a hatch in the back. I get my fingers and feet into the suit properly, then close the hatch. I walk over to a table, where the mask for the suit sits. Freaky little bastard. I pick it up and pull it over my head, making sure to lock that onto the rest of the suit. I smash the window and then leap onto the ledge. I built in a device so I just need to thrust my arms back while in mid-air for the Jet-pack in my suit to activate, and then it will atomaticly turn off when my feet touch the ground. An interactive suit. Told you I should have been an inventor.

I leap off of the ledge, and thrust my arms back. My pack activates. I fly along, and land on a building top. But it doesn't turn off. Instead, it just heats up and heats up and heats up. I feel the plastic melding with my skin. It's so hot. I try to remove my helmet. I can't. I'm stuck. I'm stuck as this bat-thing. I'm stuck as this Man-Bat.

I... I've been stabbed...

Harvey? HARVEY!?

You bastard! YOU BLEW IT UP! oh wait... wrong film.

Get your stinking smileys out of here, you damn, dirty ape.
Smiles don't like being insulted, especially this one: :woot: When he tries CANNIBIS! (). Oh yeah, and I'm not that much of an ape!

If you want to be a batman like vigilante so bad, Climp. Why not be Ragman, or Prometheus, or even The Wrath.

Can you really consider Prometheus and The Wrath vigilantes?
