Other gems from Mister Rogers:

Love isn't a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like "struggle." To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now--and to go on caring even through times that may bring us pain.

A friend of mine made a calligraphy scroll that I have framed in my writing room. It reads: "The greatest gift one can give to another person is a deeper understanding of life and the ability to love and believe in the self."

Relationships are like dances in which people try to find whatever happens to be the mutual rhythm in their lives.

Something we all need in order to feel the fullness of life: It's not only a sense that we belong on our planet, but also that we belong in other people's lives—that we are loved, lovable, and capable of loving.

I'm not asking ya'll to not grapple with this. I'm not asking ya'll to accept it as gospel truth but... Maybe just consider thinking about it...

My general philosophy is to go through life treating others as you would wish to be treated... And try to be a decent person.
However, if people are ****ty to you. It is permissable to drop them out of your life and make like they never existed.

There are two guarantees with all life. You are born, and you die. The bit inbetween is where everything important happens.
Don’t waste it, there isn’t a reset button or checkpoint.
Always make time for family and friends, but do remember you are important too.

Follow your passions as much as you can, because you can never go back. Live every day as if it is the only day you have and appreciate everything and everyone around you.

All very small, simple things really... :D

I don't believe in broad, umbrella philosophies. Life has too many subtleties and grey areas. I think it's better to take life as it comes, do no harm (or at least as little as possible if there is no perfect solution), help when possible and stay true to yourself. This is your only life, so take care of yourself and also the people that deserve it. You are responsible to others, not for them.

"If voting made a difference, they wouldn't let us do it."

Apparently Mark Twain never actually said that but anyway is a good quote.

I am nw to the forum by the way, nice to meet you all :) I could not find the "introduce yourself" thread so i thought this could be a good place to start.

Welcome to the madhouse... :cwink:

Once again... There's of course nuance and this isn't always the answer to every issue or problem, yadda, yadda, but... Just consider it in light of moments in our lives we've all had, that's all I'm asking...

Luke 14:7-14

When he noticed how the guests picked the places of honor at the table, he told them this parable: “When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take the place of honor, for a person more distinguished than you may have been invited. If so, the host who invited both of you will come and say to you, ‘Give this person your seat.’ Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up to a better place.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all the other guests. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”

Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
