A gem from my family, simple but oh so true.
My mother's first day of school she came home upset since in her child's understanding of things she thought her teacher was being mean to her. Her words were "The teacher at school doesn't like me." My grandmother's response was just straight and to the point: " In life you will meet many people who don't like you, and most of the time you will never know why."
My mom always says that was an eye opener for her as a child. I mean as kids we all want people to like us but also we kind of expect that too. Her was a mother laying out with no sweetness. In life you aren't always gonna be liked and you probably won't ever know the reason. It puts things into perspective, and in this Internet age of "likes" and personal YouTube channels and Facebook posts ect., is a handy reminder of the reality we all live in.
