Costume wise…all 3 of those are awful.

Re: Wonder Woman TV Pilot Costume

I thought some elements, like the revised pants, were okay. Overall, it was pretty terrible. The "WW" symbol on the boots, bracelets, belt, breastplate and tiara was extremely over-used.

The sole purpose of the belt appeared to be to poke a hole in her stomach if she ever needed to bend foward.

And everything seemed to be ill-fitting from the too-tight (and low) bodice to the loose pants.

But, the worst part was how cheap it looked. It looked like a hand-made cosplay outfit. And not necessarily one made for SDCC, but instead made for a sorority Halloween party. All of the "metal" elements looked like plastic. The bodice looked like it was made from the kind of material that strippers would reject as looking too cheap and tacky. And the pants looked like some kind of polyester track suit pants.

The magical boots which sported heels or no heels depending upon whether Wonder Woman was walking or running were just annoying. If it's obvious that Wonder Woman needs low-heeled boots, then just have her wear them all the time instead of switching between two pairs of boots depending upon the stunt work!

Finally, as others have noted, the strapless bodice simply reinforced the need for straps or complete coverage in order to take the focus off Wonder Woman's attempts to recreate the Baywatch opening credits and onto her fight against evil doers.

Personally, I thought Lois Lane's "Wonder Woman" costume from Smallville was vastly superior, even though it had its own faults:

All on point. It's like they went out of their way to make it ill-fitting, and out of cheap materials. No woman wants to look like that in the chest area standing or running. The picture in the link you posted actually has the actress with a much more pronounced chest area. But with good coverage and support, it looks better and doesn't smoosh anything into deformed unnatural shapes.

What do you all think of Adrianne Palicki's Wonder Woman costume? I thought it looked as if someone was cosplaying Wonder Woman. And it looked terrible in the chase sequence in the pilot, terrible in a Baywatch fashion (if you know what I mean).

It was bad. They used the cheapest materials known to man. The lasso is just a shiny rope. The boots look like cowboy boots. It's just an unfortunate mash-up of terrible.

I think it proved my point perfectly that a bustier is simply ridiculous in live action.

Yeah, it's bad. The whole "spilling out of the top" look is just wrong. I don't think it's impossible to use a bustier, but it needs to have full coverage cups and straps of some sort on the top. Strapless is hard to wear for evening wear, never mind wearing a strapless top with a metal breast plate on it while trying to run/fight. Strapless is for decorative outfits, not functional ones.

Has anyone else seen this? (Apologize if it's been posted before and I missed it). Except for the Eagle on her chest, I kinda like the costume (what you see of it anyway):

There's a couple things I would change, but it has the right vibe for a WW outfit. Looks practical, but could still have classic elements.

That's a striking WW image.

I'm not sure about those plates or whatever on her thighs, but the rest is pretty good.

I hate the whole 1990s look of that, but particularly the giant broken lightbulb on WW's shoulder.

Why does she have invisible armor? Looks like she's wearing pieces of the invisible jet...

mmmm Madame Palicki, I hated the costume but loved how it hugged her *points at my location under my username ;) *

I still think the best costume is the psuedo-Wonder Wonder costume from Smallville:

Even when Durance wore the Palicki costume, she filled it in better. That being said, I do agree with N7 Joseph Shepard's assessment.

Wow! I had forgotten all about that one. That looks great to me.

The concept is fine, but the bustier looks a bit cheap and nasty. If some metal wiring ran through the piping, it would probably look a lot better. It needs a great bilk gilded eagle emblazoned across the chest, too.

/me confused.

There have been a few versions posted just on this page. Which one were you referring to? Durance? Palicki? You are usually precise :yay:

Heh, I was following the chain of comments about the faux costume seen on Smallville.

Edit: I also meant "big" rather than "bilk". Is "bilk" really a sufficiently common word to merit a place in a predictive text memory?

Ah! predictive text strikes again! So, if you find the Smallville version a bit cheap but fixable, I wonder what you thought about the David E Kelly abomination? :woot:

You wouldn't generally think "bilk" would be.

For reference, here is the Durance - Palicki getup where Durance really pulls it off:

The Palicki number? Tight, shiny, and I would speculate highly flammable.

Wait.

They used the WW outfit from the cancelled show again in another show?

It's even worse! Looks like they custom made it to fit Durance, then cheaped out by simply shoving Adrienne into it w/out properly fitting it to her! Poor girl! Almost seems like sabotage in retrospect. Seeing a bad job gives you respect for the professionals who make it look effortless, and why there are industry awards for wardrobe.

EDIT: Am I wrong? This was made for Adrienne first? Somebody must hate her or Wonder Woman :doh::doh:

No, you're right. It was originally made for Adrianne and the thing clearly did not fit right. Erica Durance guest-starred on Harry's Law as a mentally compromised person who truly believed she was Wonder Woman. It was an NBC show, so they used the costume from the failed pilot, and clearly did a better job of fitting it to her proportions. It looks better in every single way.

That's a great template for a WW costume. As regwec already said, it just needs better materials and some sort of eagle on the top.

Batman looks like ****. Superman looks better, but he needs to ditch those gloves and find his way back to his cape. Wonder Woman looks the best out of the three. It's easy to imagine how a couple of tweaks could transform that decent outfit into a great one.

1) Don't mix and match the red and blue. Make the top red and the pants blue. There should be a clear separation between those areas.

2) Give her the traditional tiara. Please.

3) Make the invisible armor visible.

RE: Kelly's costume: the design was decent. The materials were lacking. The actress just barely made it work.

RE: The SV outfit: it was pretty good. I liked it.

I LOVED that outfit on WW. It's from a JLA: CONFIDENTIAL arc, and WW is tasked by the League to take on like a tank battalion of the Chines army that's being mind controlled. She goes all ancient warrior on them and announces her intention to fight them alone.

The outfit is in keepinng with what Perez and Jimenez do, which is to always use the classic colors and motifs as a starting point but make her look formidable, but easy to see she IS WW and not some other character. I also love that she's carrying the magic lasso as well as a nice choice of other ancient weapons. Even if she's using non magical versions of those arms, I'm sure Amazon strength, speed and skill would more than make up for it.

This is a great template for at least ONE WW outfit to be seen live action. They really ought to follow the way Perez presented her, with multiple clothing options.
