The "World of Heroes" DC RPG Season IV Signup/OOC Thread

The posts need not be out of continuity, but they can be. I'd prefer that they are, to show that you've done your research on past seasons, but they don't have to be. (That's designed to make it easier for you.)

And trusty, I too take this seriously.
Did we gloss over this one ladies and gents?

Worried that your sample post won't count?

Want it to count?

Make it count.

I won't be getting into that particular aspect again.

The sample post won't be in the actual RPG thread, therefore, how are people to know about it or if it counts towards your actions?

I've already said and even reflected back to it as to why that wouldn't exactly work for me and my plans.

My point here is this:

Giving the veteran players this particular advantage is elitist. It's saying "we don't want to write up something new, I've already been here for a while, so why should I be treated like the new guy?" That's my view of it.

If you want to recycle your old posts, fine. I just don't care anymore. Hey, why don't you just use the old application? Or maybe we should go back to the good old days where someone can post in the IC thread "I wanna play Aquaman!" and get accepted.

If you want to use an old post, and you decide to use your "best" post (however you classify it as the best), I have this to say: A writer's skill is not measured by their best work, but by their worst.
But again, why should someone who's been here awhile be treated like the new guy? Are seniors treated like freshmen? Thats my whole point, sticking with this thing for a season or more should come with slight advantages to newer players...

And I'm not saying that we shouldn't care about who we accept, or if their application is good or bad, I'm just saying that I think it makes more sense to use previous posts as samples if you can. It will allow the player to dedicate more time to the IC thread.

And yes I agree that skill is measured by their worst work, but do you think that Jeph Loeb used his last two arcs of Superman/Batman in his pitch to Marvel, or do you think he used things like Hush and the Long Halloween? Do you think Frank Miller used Dark Knight Strikes Again to get the job on "Goddamn Batman and Robin the Boy ****** (trademark pending LordSnipe Enterprises)" or did he use Year One? Applications are advertisements for yourself, why not use your best examples. I'm just debating this because a couple of players were upset (including to an extent myself) and brought it up to me. I will be willing to do a new sample, but keep in mind that I will use that sample as a future post too.

Here, have a Link. Not that hard. Just point to your sample post in your first post, or whenever it becomes relevant. And hey, boys and girls, if it never becomes relevant. Big friggin' deal.

And I've stated multiple times now, NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO INVOLVE YOUR PLANS. I'm serious here, do I just suck at explaining myself or do you people just not get it? What is this fixation with having to make it count RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW? Have your character reflect on past actions. Look into your character's past and see an event that could very well be seen as foreshadowing to actions of his in the past. Enrich the backstory.

If ya'all don't get it now, I'm going to stop caring, because I probably can't get it across to you anyway.

Or just copy paste, that is what I will do. Harl, I understand how frustrated you must be getting, because I'm just about as frustrated. It appears that noone is going to convince anyone else to change thier opinion, so I propose a ceasefire. Since the rule is already in place, it's there. I relent, and I'm sorry I spiked up this debate. :yay:

That's okay. I've been frustrated the entire day (I'll be leaving for the weekend to a three day long music festival, and it required some planning). I'm in full agreement with the cease fire. :)

Whatever, but who is going to notice if we use old or new posts anyway? So just whatever. It is stupid to create new posts...useless or what...if you already have one.

Harlekin...I really do like your idea about the flashbacks of Jason when he was Robin. As soon as you said it I thought of several things I could do to make it not pointless and be okay with the sample post. However, it would cause me to have to rush and get to a certain part of my story and I do not want to do that before Season 4 ends. I really would hate to rush my arc along just for that sample post in the application. I do not know if you or anyone has noticed...but I have tried really hard just to impress you guys since I am new to this...only been here for like what...2 and a half months?

CNO: Hey, go right ahead and use an old post, assuming nobody notices. It sounds cliché, but the only one you're fooling will be yourself. I also still don't get this general apathy against actually writing something but hey... whatever.

Trusty: Nobody says you have to apply now. There is absolutely no rush. Apply when we start Season V. They don't really count logically anyway before that time. Besides that, you can always use that Jason/Robin post to reflect on what's he already done up to now. I know you're creative enough to do that. You've impressed me enough.

It's just stupid. If I have to write a new post for Cass, I will, but that is just pointless. I already have a handful of things I can use.

Okay, now I know it's me. Run this by me again, because I don't see the problem.

- We end season 4. You are where you want to be for the start of season 5.
- You post your app. There's a bit of a delay between the two seasons of like a day or so, and you don't need to get to posting immediately. You'll have to wait to get accepted anyway (as is custom).
- You go along your merry way in season 5.

And I don't see how we can ever denote a creative endavour as 'pointless'. Probably just me then.

I am not going to continue fighting with this. You know how I feel about the whole matter. It is futile to reason with people.

Yeah, like I said. I totally agree with that. Sometimes there's just no reasoning with people.

I take it the Dark Knights in his favorite place in the world again: Bat-limbo

John Stewart was NOT happy.

"Uhn! You will not escape, Sapphire!"

An emerald cage surrounded the villainess. Within moments the lady formed an expanding sphere of violet energy around herself. The sphere stopped at the perimeter of the cage and began to weaken the emerald cage.

"You know this won't stop me, Stewart. You are NO Hal Jordan."

Finally the cage shattered into a thousand pieces. Scarlett Saphirre fired a barrage of blasts at John Stewart. They bounced harmlessly off his energy shield.

"No. I'm not Hal Jordan. But I have a few tricks of my own."

Stewart lashed out with an energy beam, but instead of striking Sapphire it whirled around her and opened a microscopic wormhole behind her.

"What?"

The hole began to implode. The atmosphere around Sapphire began to rush into the vacuum and Sapphire began to gasp for air. In less than two seconds Sapphire lost consciousness and plumetted to the ground below. John Stewart flew over her and caught her unconscious form in his arms.

"You forgot one thing, Sapphire. I AM a Green Lantern."

Now that didn't take very long. I picked John Stewart at random and came up with a little story out of continuity that gave an example of my writing. Sometimes you have to make your superiors happy despite your feelings on the subject. Just do it. :D

Funny you should ask that. I just read Cosmic Oddysey. The story where he's responsible for the annihiliation of the entire Xanshi star-system. No, I don't think John Stewart is ever happy. :p

Not even when he's banging Hawkgirl?

Considering he never got to do so in the comics, I'd say that makes him even more unhappy.
