The 'World of Heroes: DC Style" RPG Season II

"Scarecrow crazy gas or whatnot... Now if you form a field around Gotham to quarantine all the crazies, I can take some blood samples. Deal?"

"Deal." John says as he powers up and takes to the air. "But A suggestion." he adds. "If possible generate, and sweep Gotham wih field to neutralize the gass effects once you analyize those blood samples."

And with that John goes to, and lands the center of Gotham. Concentraiting intensely for a moment. Then, eyes glowing brightly he slams a hand on the ground. And within minutes Gotham is fully inclosed within a 20-plus foot high self-regenerating, emerald forcefied.

"That should do the trick." John says to himself over the comlink. "Okay Hal. Your turn." He adds, still slightly winded by the effort.

The Joker had emerged from the Gotham City sewer system a while back, and had walked to the outskirts of the city. He was in the countryside now, and had finally arrived at his destination. An old ruin of a mansion, originally built by merchants in coal oil, now a shadow of its former glory, loomed over the rural landscape like an omen of doom. The Joker had many hideouts, but this was the place that he called home.

Whistling to himself softly, he opened the creaky front door. The place looked just as much a wreck inside as it did outside. The Joker knew the place well, knew what floorboards to stand on. A wrong step could send him through the floor, but he effortlessly navigated his way through the halway in total darkness. He walked up the groaning staircase, and in the upper landing, stopped to examine a bust of the man who built the place centuries ago. Grinning, he stuck his finger up the bust's nose, opening up a secret compartment in the wall.

"Home sweet home," he said to himself, entering the secret room as the wall closed behind him.

This area was much better furbished. There was a fireplace, which The Joker quickly set alight, filling the room with warmth. He sat down on the comfortable sofa, pouring himself a glass of wine. He was fairly sure that Batman wouldn't be bothering him here. Nobody knew about this place, save a few unsavoury characters from Gotham's criminal underworld, including his old pal Two-Face.

"Did you miss me, Fluffy?" asked The Joker, stroking the stuffed cat sat beside him.

Well, since his recent escape from Arkham, he's achieved a lot. He'd put together one of his finest plans ever, showing old Brucie the cruel irony of life by killing his dear old butler Alfred. He'd done that spineless weasel Harvey Dent a big favour by turning him back into Two-Face, and got paid a cool 50 million by The Penguin for doing it. With the help of The Scarecrow and his modifed fear gas, he'd turned Gotham into a madhouse. Oh, and he'd begun construction of his new house of fun over on Liberty Island.

Speaking of his house of fun, he needed to check up on its progress. Getting up off the sofa and walking over to the desk, The Joker picked up the phone and called Harold Brine, his chief architect.

"Brine here," said Brine after a few rings.

"Harry!" laughed The Joker, "Who's construction coming along?"

"Excellent, Joker," replied Brine, "We should be finished in a week or so."

"That's fabulous, keep me posted," chuckled The Joker, hanging up.

Finishing his wine, The Joker let out a loud yawn. Now he was feeling rather tired. Opening a door, he walked into the small bedroom. Once inside, he set the explosive charge around the entrance, making sure nobody would be snekaing up on him in his sleep. He got undressed, and jumped into the double bed.

"Ah....only one thing would make this day more fun. Oh, Harley, were are you when I need you. Oh that's right, I shot you. HA HA! That NEVER gets old..."

The Joker closed his eyes. Despite all the evil deeds he'd committed, all the lives he'd ruined, he wasn't going to have any trouble sleeping...

Deatstroke heard the noise and saw the darker-than-usual shadow under the tree. He gave Black Adam a silent signal to follow him as they walked over to the spot. As they neared it, the Shade made his appearance...

"I'm thankful you didn't decide to smash your way through the windows, although I was ready to "shadow" you away if that was your intention."- Shade said smugly.
"Shut it, Shade."-Deathstroke said curtly-"Just because you choose to spend your time lost in books and artsy pursuits doesn't mean we're a couple of meatheads. Simmer down your arrogance or you'll find that your position in this Alliance isn't as comfortable as you might think."
"Very well."- Shade responded with a slight smile- "Can I be so bold as to suggest that I take us inside instead of circumventing any security there might be?"
"I was getting to that if you weren't so enamored with the sound of your own voice. Our best bet is to enter their surveillance room, from there we can ascertain "who and where" in regards to possible occupants and our target. Agreed?"- said Deathstroke.

"Yes."- said Shade simply, he smiled again, It was obvious he was mocking Deathstroke's "scolding" about talking too much.

"Teth Adam?"- Slade said looking for the monarch's answer.

The Parasite was on a privately owned plane back to his old stomping ground of Metropolis. He had gotten out of the House as quickly and quietly as he could, not stopping to say 'goodbye' to Frost. It just wasn't in him.

As the plane rolled to a stop as it arrived on the runway, Rudy grabbed the flight attendent and drained the life out of her. He then took her form and grabbed a taxi after making his way through the airport security.

"Take me to this address." Parasite told the cabbie as he handed him an address written on a note of paper.

As the cab drove through the streets of the City of Tomorrow, Rudy noticed that many of the building he himself had destroyed were under construction. Lex Corp Towers had scaffolding around it's higher offices where Superman and he had knocked each other around. Rudy also saw alot of Wayne Enterprises Construction crew members setting up to rebuild the Daily Planet which Parasite had destroyed months ago with a massive bolt of electricity. Many other buildings were under heavy reconstruction after Luthor had lit a gas main that ran under a large portion of the city. Rudy wondered how Lex had gotten himself out of that one. 'Oh well. I guess he's not called a super genius for nothing,' Parasite thought to himself as the cab drove on.

OOC: I believe this is the first post ever to really take into account all the destruction done in Metropolis throughout both seasons. I felt it was time that someone came along and rebuilt it.

"Just get on with it. I wish to be done with this business as quickly as possible." Unlike the two of you, the thought of a child's gruesome death does not particularly enamor me, he added in his own thoughts.

OOC: What happened to Harky?
OOC again: Never mind, just saw the OOC thread.

"So Bart, how do you feel about having to deal with such an important legacy? Is it hard?"

"Oh I don't know, I guess I don't think about it all that much. Although the coolest part of the legacy is the fact that even after we're gone, we still help other speedsters."

"How so?"

"While if a speedster dies in action, usually it's from pushing their body too fast and they're absorbed into the Speed Force. That's what happened to my Grandpa. He saved the universe from a temporal abnormality, but it cost him his life."

That seems familiar. I wonder why? What connection did it have to me?

"And if a speedster dies of natural causes or some other means, they're just absorbed after the fact. Think of it kinda like Yoda and Obi-Wan in the Star Wars movies."

"That's really cool, Bart. The culture I grew up in was so scientific that they'd never believe in the afterlife. They didn't even believe in gods anymore. It was cold, but it was home, and I do miss it."

"No gods? Then who is this Rao, you're always mentioning?"

"He WAS a Kryptonian god, basically the Zeus of the Kryptonian pantheneon. But after the Great Clone War, our people disregarded religion for science. Rao became nothing more than a name for the sun that eventually killed us."

"Wow. Thats freaky, they turn from god worship to sun worship, and then the sun decides to go Nova on their asses? Thats irony for you. Anyways, I'm full, are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, I've been done eating for ten minutes, slow poke."

"Slowpoke nothin' I have a high metabolism!" Bart points at the stack of ten empty plates on his side of the table. "Oh and I don't suppose you could umm pay? I forgot my wallet."

*sigh* "I knew you would, so I brought money"

"Sweet! For that I'll WALK you home. Not run. WALK!"

The shadows around deepened and seemed to grow gnashing teeth as they neared them, the shadows opened their maws and they were in the Shadow Lands. Some unseen current pushed them along as if following the Shade and when he stopped the other stopped. Shade made a gesture with his hand and in front of him the air rippled and it was as if reality tore and showed a darkened view of the surveillance room. It was empty. Still, Shade made a fierce gesture with his hand as if flinging something, he then motioned the others to follow as he stepped throught the rip in the ether.

The others would probably squint as they came into the well lit room. Slade felt movement in the corner of his eye and when he turned to look in that direction he saw what was vaguely the shape of a camera shrouded in an inky black matter. "A camera for the camera room. Clever!"-said the master assassin as he headed for the controls. he fiddled with a few of the buttons and searched with the cameras until he found 3 targets. The computers told him that there was no one else in the structure. "Well, we have Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy in the premises. It should be a simple affair to take care of them. Quick kid is nowhere to be found, though. We can send an automated distress alert to him after we take care of the others and ambush our target."

"Sounds like a plan."-responded Shade. "I have a naughty idea... if any of you two are willing to take on Raven."-he said with a devious smile. He looked at the other two from over his glasses inquisitively.

"If it will help dispatch with them more quickly, by all means, let's hear it."

OOC: Trop, could you use a different color for Deathstroke? RoseRedStrauss has already been using orange for Zoom.

OOC:I'm not a frequent Nightwing or Birds of Prey reader, so tell me if I got the facts surrounding the Dick/Babs relationship messed up and I'll amend accordingly. :) Twy...I hope you don't mind Babs trying to interact with Dinah...
IC: Oracle

I enter my apartment and switch on the lights. It is it hot and it doesn't help that I'm bathed in sweat and every part of my body aches badly. Though I can't help but want to leap up and jump with joy at the...massisve improvement I've made over the past couple of weeks. So the pain is worth it.A smile tugs at the corner of my lips as I remember the feeling of standing on my feet for a full 5 minutes! A big acheievment considering the fact that I could only stand for 2 mins before and that too would be followed by me falling back into my chair, tremors shaking my form....

"No pain, no gain" I guess...

Dick...I need to tell Dick...I already feel bad about not telling him before heading for this surgery...but this...was a big event of my life...and I want to share it with him...despite the fact that all I've been doing recently is keep him away...But now, he wouldn't need to talk about the past all the time...Now...I could actually not sit here safe behind these walls and watch while he risked his life out there every night...

Heaving a sigh I switch on the light to the computer room. He has disapeared for so long. And I keep telling myself that if Batman isn't worried than I shouldn't be either-

My computer system is on.

Shocked, I wheel to the console and realize that someone's been using this to search...Who...?

batman...?No...he had a system equivalent to its capability sitting in the Batcave...

Dinah...only she had the keys to the clocktower...

Chewing on my bottom lip I connect to her, "Canary?Oracle here."

There is no immeadiate response.

And then it I hear it. Faint sounds...wimpering...anguihsed incoherent sobs..."DINAH?!"

Oh God...WHAT was the matter with her?!

Comming to my senses I quickly trace her in the electronic map of Gotham on the screen. She was in a street...down town Gotham...

"DINAH!Can you hear me!?"

OOC: Look like the Brids of prey are back... now we need a Huntress...

OOC: Why?!? Huntress has been crap in the BOP comic (at least in my opinion) and the Dinah/Babs team needs no other help really.

OOC: Huntress has been great since she left Oracle's employ, in my opinion. She'd make such a great villainess for them. Too bad I'm pretty sure it's all a ruse. :(

OOC: Well, I suppose, but thats been what? Two issues?..

"I was just thinking that I would be able to dispatch...Beast Boy?...Wasn't it Changeling after he left the trappings of that horrid science fiction show?"
- Shade inquired.

"Retro is in. He's back to his first code name. Can you move this along?"
- replied an irritated Deathstroke.

"Yes, well; a giant shadow raven? That seems something up my alley and I would SO cherish the face of horror of the green brat as he realizes that it's not his friend coming to aid him." -Shade finished. Slade smiled beneath his mask and coughed to compose himself. "Whatever gets you off, Shade. I'll take Raven, then. That leaves you with Cyborg, Black Adam."- he pointed to the screens and to schematic of the tower he called up."They're here, here and here. Shadowing us along will expedite matters. Shade, if you please..."

The Shade opened three obsidian portals, each one near one of them. Shade made a flourish and stepped through one which disappeared immediately.

OOC:Corp, I'm giving you the chance to say any words to Slade if you want before stepping through. You don't HAVE to take the portal since I know you're playing Adam with some honor.

Black Adam put his hand on the grinning Deathstroke's shoulder. "I know you hate these children, but I shouldn't have to tell an assassin as renowned as yourself that we're only here to kill the Flash's lackey. Try to display some restraint. As much as I'd like to be rid of the heroes entirely in one fell swoop, we can't take all of them on at once." With that, Teth-Adam stepped through the portal in front of him and found himself in a shadowy hall. He could hear Cyborg's heavy footfalls around the corner. Black Adam waited quietly to ambush the Titan...

OOC: Kind of half-hearted, I know, but Black Adam wouldn't really say anything to him, in my opinion. Black Adam's not a big fan of killing kids, but they're heroes so he ultimately doesn't care.

OOC: No problem. Just giving you an out if you want to talk smack behind Shade's back and to attack your own way.;)

Alan Scott is flying over his old stomping ground, Gotham City. A lot has changed since he left 50 years ago. Where it was once a prospering metropolis, it's now a safe haven for crime and injustice. He swoops down to the streets and sees Black Canary, The Flash, and GL.

"Wally, John, Dinah. Just tell me one thing. Who do I hit?"

Alan_Scott.jpg

"No hi for me?" asks Hal from behind Alan, his arms crossed. It's been a while since they've seen each other. "You wanna fly with me while I get things under control? We have a lot of catching up to do..."

OCC: Wasn't she in it for a while in the comics?
OOC: No, POWER Girl was but not Supergirl. and on me joining... hmmm I've already got something started with the Titans, but maybe I could do both, we'll see

OOC: No, as irritating as Shade is, Black Adam just wants to get the job done. ;)

IC: Cyborg rounded the corner tapping away on a keypad and looking at a viewscreen, both housed in his forearm. He walked straight towards the next corner, which Black Adam was hiding behind. Black Adam readied his ambush, but Cyborg suddenly stopped. Unknown life sign detected 2 meters ahead, one of Cyborg's devices droned mechanically.

The Titan looked around suspiciously. "Whoever you are, you'd better come out here! We don't take kindly to intruders!"

With a silent curse in his native language, Black Adam flew out from behind the corner at full speed. Cyborg's arm, which had shifted into a sonic gun, fired a blast at Black Adam, which the Khandaqi king dodged. He tackled Cyborg and began slamming his fist into the Titan's head. Cyborg got a blow of his own in, which pushed Adam off of him, but Adam kept the pressure on; he knew that if he let up, Cyborg might have time to activate the building's interior defenses, which would complicate matters considerably. Luckily for Black Adam, he was much stronger than Cyborg and far less patient at the moment. A flying clothesline and a few good hooks later, Cyborg lay unconscious on the floor.

"Hmm," Black Adam wondered aloud, "now how to find the others in this incredibly large and foolishly designed structure?"

Alan spins around. "Good to see you, Hal. Seeing as you aren't with the League anymore I thought that was John flying around in the green bubble." Alan forms a plane around himself. "You lead the way, Old Friend."

Raven was sorting through her books when she felt Cyborg's flash of pain. There was a feeling of intense rage behind it and she wondered why she didn't feel it before. She focused her empathic abilities and prepared to teleport to them...

raven.jpg

She suddenly caught something at the edge of her senses and 'ported out just in time as Slade's fist almost connected with her. The disruption to her concentration made her jaunt a short one and she appeared just outside her door. Before she could recoup Slade was through the door. It still sent chills through her spine how undetectable this man was, he made no noise at all even while charging at her and she could barely feel any emotions from him. She 'ported again, this time to the end of the hall where she pressed some buttons in the terminal: "Titans, Deathstroke has infiltrated the tower! I'm at..."-Slade's sword went through the intercom, Raven barely dodged it.

Gar stood up as he heard the intercome blare. He stepped out of his room and skidded to a halt as he saw the shade standing there in a composed manner. "Hello!"- said Shade cheerfully. "Who the...?"- Beast Boy's exclamation got cut short as Shade raised his arm and a spray of shadow bolts traveled towards the green hued youngster. He turned into a billy goat and charged Shade. Shade stood his ground and moved at the last moment. He raised his hands and said OLé as Gar crashed into the wall. Gar roared heartily as he turned into a lion and pounced at Shade. Shade threw a shadow bolt that hit Beast Boy mid air and Shade stepped aside to completely avoid the falling body. Gar landed on all fours and turned into a cheetah and scrambled towards Shade. The reaction was too fast and Shade fell to the floor with the green feline on top of him. Shade had his cane in the cheetah's mouth and was pushing it trying to keep the youngster away.

At the same time, Raven was being kept too busy to summon her soul self and was scrambling to keep away from Deathstroke. She knew she was being toyed with and hoped that it would lead to Slade's downfall. Just as the thought had crossed her mind she had rounded a corner in a mad dash and had enough time to summon her soulself. It flew forward as Deathstroke rounded the corner. The assassin didn't lose his stride as he tucked, rolled and kept going. He threw some darts at the young girl and Raven slumped to the floor, unconscious.

Shade grimaced with the excertion of keeping the boy away. He could feel the claws digging in to him, he wouldn't hemorrage to death...but the pain was still annoying. He had wanted to summon demonic shadow wolves to help him, but that would render his plan useless. A large black bird started to come from out of the floor and when it neared them, Beast Boy jumped back. To Gar's surprise the bird by-passed the Shade and continued on to him. "What is it? Do we have to get out of here?"- Beast Boy said nervously. The "raven" suddenly displayed vicious eyes and a gaping beak lined with ferocious teeth. Instead of getting the satisfaction of a horrified face, what Shade got was a young man whose heart seemed to break as he said softly: "Oh, no! Raven...not again." The bird of prey knocked the boy out with a mighty swing from it's beak. "Mission accomplished."- Shade said. He approached Beast Boy and saw the nasty gash on his forehead. A tear ran down Beast Boy's cheek and there was no laughter in the Shade's. He let the shadows embrace them both as he teleported where Black Adam was.
