The 'World of Heroes: DC Style" RPG Season II

She caught the car. "What time of need Adam? We help anyone in need, no matter who their ruthless dictator is!" She throws the car back at him, but immediately before it reaches him she ignites its gas tank with her heat vision.
The explosion caught Adam head-on, but he gritted his teeth and stood his ground. Molten metal seared holes in his costume and, by the time the fireworks are over, smoke was rising in plumes off of Adam's shoulders and chest. He looked at Supergirl and smiled, showing no outward sign of any pain.

Then, with a sonic boom as her only warning, Black Adam plowed into Supergirl at super-speed, driving her through the asphalt under her feet. He stood over her in a blind rage. "I was no dictator! I ruled justly and the people loved me for I was one of their own!" Then, with one fluid motion, he snatched her by the throat and begins rising into the air. He shouted at her on the way up, punctuating his sentences with punches to Supergirl's face.

"And don't insult me by pretending you don't know what happened, child!" He caught her eye with a right cross. "I left Khandaq in order to assist one of you!" Her high, sculpted cheekbone shuddered under Adam's fist. "When I returned, your kind had turned all of Khandaq against me!" Blood spurted from her nose after his hard jab. "My own people!" The puckered, reddish bruise on her cheek began to ooze blood after Adam smacked her again

They had finally risen almost a mile over the earth by the time Adam stopped. Fury burned hot behind his crazed eyes.
"Do you not understand what you did to me?!" Adam hit her again. "I!" Again. "Lost!" Again. "EVERYTHING!!" Adam finally released her, clasped his hands together, and brought them crashing down right between Supergirl's eyes, sending her speeding back down into the ground with a thunderous BOOM.

Kara coughed blood as Adam continued to pummel her into the massive crater. "I *hack* did not know that your people rebelled, and doubt heroes had anything to do with it. I would look towards your so called allies. Only you have any honor among them. Your willingness to help a hero indicates that." She stammered out, before passing out under the pain.

I was between the two in an instant, pulling Black Adam off of my cousin. "Adam, what happened in Khandaq? If you are as honorable as you claim to be, explain this to me. It's not right for us not to know why we are fighting." I hoped my voice could be both forceful and concerned as I spoke, and I hoped Adam could be reasoned with.

Black Adam raised his blood-soaked fist again but stopped himself as Supergirl's words registered. For the first time since he'd begun his quest to purge the world of the duplicitous heroes, he began to doubt. Can it be that she really doesn't know of the events in Khandaq? But it must have been the heroes! Otherwise, why would Mid-Nite have diverted me from Khandaq and then infiltrate the Dark Alliance to finish the job? It's too much for sheer coincidence... and yet, I can't shake this feeling..

Adam looked down at the limp form beneath him. Supergirl's breath was ragged, her face a mass of lumps and bruises. Is this what the once-proud protector of the Pharoah had come to? Beating children to the verge of death while blinded by red fury? "No," Adam said, shaking his head. "It's their fault. How many Khandaqi children died by their hands?" But were the hands truly theirs?

Black Adam's confusion frustrated him. He had just assumed... but how could he know for sure? He obviously couldn't trust what the heroes said if they were behind it. But could he honestly discount the possibility Supergirl had raised? He had seen the Alliance members do horrendous things and revel in them. He needed time to sort things out.

Adam turned to Superman. "I have defeated Supergirl in honorable combat, as she demanded. If you would break the honor of her challenge, then do so and I will either defeat you as well or die trying. If not... tend to the child. I have much to consider and we will doubtless meet again without the weight of these customs upon us." He fished the magic emerald out of his sash and waited tensely for Superman's reply.

OOC: I hope you don't think I'm a jerk for making Adam so savage, Cori. Just trying to stay in character and he's kind of at the end of his rope.

Adam has a point, I should get Kara to the infirmary at the Watchtower, but the events in Khandaq bother me. What happened? Is that what had inadvertantly caused the formation of this Dark Alliance?

"Fine, we will leave. But, I assure you Adam, we had nothing to do with what happened in Khandaq, nor do we have any knowledge of those events."

TheCorpulent1 said:
"Of course you don't," Adam replied with weary sarcasm. "But even if you were not involved, perhaps you should confer with Dr. Mid-Nite and the JSA before you go making assurances." With that, Black Adam teleported back into the Tower of Fate.

"I will."

I float down and scoop Kara up in my arms, wincing inwardly at the feel of her broken body. "Is anyone there?" I ask into my communicator, "I need a teleport to the Watchtower immediately. We have an emergency."

The Dark Lord turned his head to face the Terminator, “Slade, you will handle rigging the drum with the detonators.”

Mordru faced the Shade, “Shade, with your shadow powers, you would be the best choice to lead the infiltration mission, and Deathstroke would be the wisest selection to accompany you. I will cast spells of invisibility and masking on you both, and the barrels, before you depart. They will aid you greatly in your mission of stealth.”
---
Mordru then looked around at faces of all of his allies, “Well, gentlemen, so ends our little briefing."

"Consider it done." Deathstroke replied as he downed a shot of whiskey. "Coming along to Keystone as well, Shade?" he spoke as he already grabbed his emerald and was ready to teleport away and set us up the bomb.

The Scarecrow came back to the Tower of Fate. He saw Deathstroke and Shade ready to go with the bombs. “WAIT! YOU FOOLS!” Crane ran up to the two men. Instantly he jabbed a needle into Deathstroke, pouring the antidote into his blood.

“You do want to live through the raid, don’t you?

"All in good time. Pull up to this bar over here."

*Vic pulled into the bar I pointed to. I got out of the car and looked back in at him.*

"You going in without a face or with one this time? It's going to be hard picking up a girlfriend without one, might I add."

A bar, Star City

I press the button on my belt. Specialized gass is released, turning my clothes from blue to brown, turning my hair from black to red, and releasing my face mask.

"Funny. By the way, how is your girlfriend? You know. Carol. The skitzofrenik one who turns into a supervillain and trys to kill you every other week."

I hear from the comm in the control room Clark's voice. "I need a teleport to the Watchtower immediately. We have an emergency."

I roll over to the comm and answer. "We hear you Clark, sending you up now." I press the buttons to initiate the transportation process. I see Barbara watching, brow up in confusion. "Four hands are better than two, right?"

The Shade listened to Mordru's plan silently and smiled at the deliciously evil proposal. He nodded his head silently as Mordru gave out the roles each would play. "I have something to attend to before we play our part, Slade. Hopefully it won't take me long. We shall meet here later."- Shade said as he stood up and an ebony black portal ringed with green flames opened up.

Mia and Connor were in the midst of inventorying the equipment in the house. They were going to be ready for anything now that they had been alerted to what the Dark Alliance was doing. Connor was the first to feel the “wrongness” in the air, it felt like the world had suddenly taken in a breath and was holding it. He looked at Mia and with a silent signal “told” her to get her hands on a bow. They kept making idle chatter as if nothing was happening but for every piece of equipment they counted or moved their hands always moved over their bows. Something blurred by their peripheral vision and they both drew their bows and fired, a cockroach lay impaled by one green arrow and a red one was directly in its path as if to cut away it’s escape. They both looked at each other silently, let out their breath and laughed at their overreaction. Still, it was nervous laughter and Connor coughed a bit as his goose pimpled flesh didn’t settle down. They saw another blur go by and they drew their bows. Connor was wide eyed and a vein on his neck could be seen throbbing- “Something’s wrong here.” “C’mon, Connor, we took these things out of storage. Who knows what kind of bugs we stirred up.”- Mia said as she stopped pulling back on her bow’s string. “No!”- responded Connor- “There’s something else.” He moved to have a better vantage point of where the figure went and saw a crawling black thing. “THERE!”- he shouted. Mia knocked an arrow and let if fly to the same spot Connor had. When they looked closely it was a big black tarantula, it had started oozing black bile. “EEEEWWWWWW”- Mia said, sticking out her tongue. “Spiders…don’t…do that!”- Connor said as he swept his aim from side to side of the room. Mia saw as the tarantula had become a black puddle of goo, Connor was right. She reached for the table and grabbed a special arrow. The shadows had started shifting and more critters were coming out of them.

Mia and Connor let loose with their arrows. Connor’s claimed one of the shadow creature’s floating around Shade. Mia’s hit just beside Shade and burst in a blinding white light. “Connor. Flare arrows.”- was all that Mia said as she grabbed a handful and threw them at her partner, he had two more at the ready. Shade cursed under his breath as he moved away from the blinding source of light, some of the creatures were turn asunder but not all of them. Connor let loose with one and aimed at the Shade’s leg, the arrow went through as if he was insubstantial and hit the floor, another burst of potent light. Mia let go of the two she had knocked cutting off Shade’s retreat. Shade looked more solid as he was almost completely surrounded in light. “You’re gonna pay for what you’ve done!”- Mia said as her eyes shone with tears. “I…sincerely doubt so…young one.”- Shade responded as he breathed heavily. “SHADE! Don’t move!”- Connor ordered as he aimed at him. “I have no intentions…of moving.”- Shade responded as he raised his hands. The two archers had missed that while the Shade was practically without shadows, all the light had made very long shadows behind them. Out of Mia’s shadow sprang a shadow troll and grabbed her by the neck, choking her and pulling her back. “Mia!”- Connor shouted as he fired a flare arrow at the creature. He quickly turned towards the Shade again, but he was already on the move. Connor spun and somersaulted as he avoided Shade’s shadow bolts. He performed a spinning sweep kick to destroy the small shadow creatures that were at his feet as he aimed another arrow at Shade. “Mia, call for help!”- Connor shouted as he let loose with another flare arrow.

Mia searched the table and found her communicator, her voice was hoarse from the earlier choking attack - “Speedy to all points. *cough* This is a priority transmission on all channels…any Titan, Outsider or JLA member…AAAAIIIEEEE!”- Mia screamed as a shadow snake that had wrapped itself on the table’s leg bit her. She impaled a flare arrow on it hoping to destroy the creature. The magnesium flare burst to life, ripping the snake to nothingness; it also burst the wood of the table on fire. “Oh, my God; it hurts.”- she said, her communicator still active. She could see Connor fighting of the shadow creatures and Shade appearing and disappearing from one part of the room to the other. The sound of fire and Connor's fighting could be heard as Mia continued her transmission-“Shade is attacking Green Arrow’s house. WE NEED HELP! PLEASE!!!”

Out of the communicator came in loud an clear- “This is the Watchtower. Speedy, help is already on the way.” The rest of the transmission got cut off as a shadow bolt broke the communicator. “Now you’ve done it, you little *itc*!!”- Shade said baring his teeth at her. With renewed determination the Shade made the shadows envelop them impossibly fast as the three of them were teleported to the Shadowlands.

JLA MEMBERS. ESPECIALLY THOSE ON WATCHTOWER MONITOR DUTY.

An incoming transmission from Mia on priority alert 1: “Speedy to all points. *cough* This is a priority transmission on all channels…any Titan, Outsider or JLA member…AAAAIIIEEEE!”- Mia screamed as a shadow snake bit her. The sound of a flare could be heard as well as a weird hissing sound. The crackling of fire is starting to play out in the background. “Oh, my God; it hurts.”- Mia says, her communicator still active.

Speedy, help is already on the way.”

A crashing sound and static is all that follows.

I rush to the Medical Bay so quickly after teleporting in that it almost looked like Kara and I materialized there. The Watchtower's medical personnel gather around Kara as I place her on an open bed, tending to her wounds.

Despite my great concern for Kara, I leave her in their capable hands, entering the conference room with everyone else. I sit off to the side, my back against the wall with my head down in shame. I failed again.

OOC: Is Mid-Nite in the Watchtower still?

I opened a comm channel to Bruce and left a message.

"Bruce I'm on my back from Ducard's. Everything going okay?"

I heard through the comm Speedy's plea. “Speedy to all points. *cough* This is a priority transmission on all channels…any Titan, Outsider or JLA member…AAAAIIIEEEE! ... Oh, my God; it hurts. ... Shade is attacking Green Arrow’s house. WE NEED HELP! PLEASE!!!”

Jesus, we're dropping like flies.

"This is the Watchtower. Help is on the way." I turn off the comm. "Barbara, send out a message through all the channels, everyone reports to the Watchtower. We're going to keep as many of us alive as possible until we make a plan."

I hear the comm message from my own ear, the private line.

"No, Tim, everything's far from okay. Get to the Watchtower NOW. I'll explain when you get here. Until then, watch yourself."

The Scarecrow picked up his weapon and jewel and teleported to a beach. Tempest was lying on the beach looking into the waves.

OOC: Next part is in Tempest POV
-------------------------------

Garth was lying on the warm beach looking out into the emerald water. The sun was setting, casting a purplish color in the sky. He didn’t even notice a strange disturbance in mystical energy behind him. His wife had left him, took the child, and left him with nothing. All because of Pip... Tempest saw gas filling the air he breathed.

“EvErThInG tO FeAr,”

Dolphin appeared in front of him. “How could you do this to me! With him? Why?” The sand that he was lying on, began to consume him. The little beads of dirt and minerals started to wash onto his face. With the power of the ocean, he started spraying his head with water. In matter of minutes, Garth had thought he had drowned.

---------------------
Crane started to chop the body into fine pieces. He then noticed something, a little button. Examining it, John had found it was a com link. The demented doctor put the body parts in a bag and teleported to the Tower of Fate. After giving Mordru the com link, the Scarecrow made a trip to Metropolis, where he stood in front of the Daily Planet. He walked in, cutting the head off of every person that saw him, until he made it to Jimmy Olsen.

“Call the Justice League now! I know you have their little secret number, do it,” Crane said as he nudged Jimmy Olsen with the scythe. “Tell them I have Tempest,” Jimmy made the call and told whoever had answered the phone everything, and right before he could scream for help, the scythe cut down into Jimmy's neck, dropping the body parts by the fresh body.

The Scarecrow locked the Daily Planet’s doors, and disappeared.

I edited it.

"... thank you Crane." Deathstroke said "I won't actually need to go to Keystone to rig these up though. I just wanted to follow up on Mordru's little visit to the Rogues. Professional courtesy." with those words, Slade teleported away to the hide-out of the Rogues, hiding in the shadows.

Silently he waited till McCulloch passed him by, and Slade put his gun to the villain's head. "Listen and listen good McCulloch. One of the heroes tried to act like you. An imposter. He's called Mid-Nite, he's got a clinic in Portsmouth. Might want to look it up." With no more time to waste on words or giving the Mirror Master time to respond, Slade teleported away back to the Tower of Fate.

With a cheshire grin on his face Deathstroke turned to working on rigging the explosives to the barrels of fear gas. He was expecting some news later on CNN about a certain clinic in Portsmouth being blown up and all of present, including close friends of Dr. Mid-Nite killed. He respected the man for his guts and initial infiltration, but he needed a lesson to what happens to people impersonating villains.

Yet again, a call came in through the comm. "This is Jimmy Olsen of the Daily Planet. The Scarecrow has just come in, killed a whole bunch of people and made me tell you that he has the pieces left of Tempest here. You gotta send hel--" The line went dead, and probably so did Jimmy Olsen.

"Send someone to take Tempest's body. Get a group of them, just for safety." I called out. I slumped into the chair and pinched my brow.

This is not good. Not good at all.

IC:Oracle

Despite the situation, Bruce being in a wheel chair bound is...amusing. He's one of the most able bodied men around...to see him cope with being temporarily disabled is quite strangely reminiscent of my own attempts to constantly try to prove myself useful. I smirk at the sight of him,so automatically transformed into 'Oracle' mode. He's been in the wheel chair for what... 2 hours? And already he's taken up control of the console...
He turns to urgently,"Barbara, send out a message through all the channels, everyone reports to the Watchtower. We're going to keep as many of us alive as possible until we make a plan."

I nod and connect to everyone in the JL, "EVERYONE report to the tower imeadiately!"

I brought you here to pick up chicks. Nothing a drink can't fix, you know? But I don't feel like it anymore. Lately, my body's been giving me visions, feelings, signs of impending danger. After I gave up my ring, I thought the visions had gone away. I was wrong. I think the League needs us, Vic. You in?"

*Not waiting for Vic's answer, I take out my comm and talk directly to Barbara*

"Barb, Vic needs a ride to the Watchtower, I need a ride back to the church. I haven't given up yet."

*I grin at Vic as we begin to dematerialize*
