The 'World of Heroes: DC Style" RPG Season II

The Parasite was looking out over the City of Tomorrow from the tallest building in the world. As long as he remained in his disguise as Lex Luthor, all of this was his. The Parasite's eyes glowed with energy. It was finally dawning on him exactly how much power he now wielded.

Suddenly, his assistant named Neal burst into his office, carrying a stack of paper and apparently in a panic. Neal stopped runnning when he came to "Luthor's" desk. He layed down the stack of paper infront of his boss.

"And what exactly is this supposed to be, Neal?" asked Rudy, gesturing towards the paper.

"Sir, we've just recieved word that a LexCorp-brand nuclear missile is heading straight towards Metropolis." Neal had to catch his breath and wipe the beads of sweat from his brow. "Our calculations have determined that it is aimed towards the heart of this city..." Neal couldn't bring himself to finish his sentence.

"...LexCorp Towers," the Parasite finished Neal's sentence grimly.

"Y--yes, Mr. Luthor. I don't think I need to tell you that this building holds many varieties of explosives and weapons. If a nuclear warhead were to strike this building, well, let's just say that it would be the largest explosion ever created on this earth." Neal began to break into tears.

"I'm not going to let that happen, Neal." The Parasite stood up and began walking towards the door of his office. "These are the class 10 A5 nuclear warheads, correct?"

"Uh, yes, Mr. Luthor. Why?" said Neal as he walked behind his boss.

"Because that particular model of our missiles have a manual failsafe switch located on it." Rudy and Neal stepped into Lex's personal elevator and began heading down to Weapons Testing. "If I can reach the failsafe switch, then we won't die," the Parasite said flatly.

"B--but how can you possibly reach that switch if it's located on the missle's body?" Neal sobbed.

"Neal, call ahead to Weapons Testing. Tell them to prep my battle suit."

Hector Hall materializes thirty miles outside of Beijing, right in front of the missile’s path. He had suspicions as to why the governments of the world’s defensive systems had not detected the attack and launched countermeasures. Now, in the presence of the weapon, his suspicions have been realized. Magic…Mordru had mystically cloaked the warheads from conventional detection methods.

Hector wastes no time conjuring up a portal in front of the missile’s path. The warhead streaks into the void, and the portal closes shut.

“One down, eleven more to go”, says Hector as he teleports to the missile streaking towards Tokyo. He knows he won’t be able to stop them all by himself; he may be able to reach another three more after the one targeting Tokyo. He just hopes his friends received his mystical call and are on their way.

“Hear me, Justice League! Mordru is defeated, but the danger is not over yet! With his last act, Mordru released twelve nuclear warheads against twelve cities across the planet. We must divert those we can, and evacuate the civilians. Superman, one missile is heading for Metropolis. You must stop it. Kara, another is heading for London. You must not let it reach its target! Flash, you must evacuate the people of Paris before the city is destroyed…”
What the? Fate? Why do I get freaking London?!?!? I'm like a half a second from LA, and I could stop the missile and not even be late for class... but no! I get London... She turns from the door of the lecture hall, and pretends to get a squeamish look in her face. She runs back to the bathroom and changes again, flying out the window. When she streaked into veiw of London she saw the missile, mere feet from Big Ben. She dived in front of it and caught it, flying it out of the atmosphere. In the airless vaccuum it exploded, causing no damage to anyone or anything, but completely trashing her cape. And Martha just made this one for me... "sigh"

She flew back down to Stanford and changed for a third time. Oh not cool! I have nowhere to put the costume without my cape! She luckily spots the air vent near the ceiling, and takes off the grill to stuff her costume in it. She looks at the clock in the hallway outside the bathroom, and sees shes already ten minutes late for class. ...and people say drinking is bad for your grades... imagine what being a full time super heroine must do... She quietly sneaks into the lecture hall and sits in an empty chair in the far back. At least this is a 300 person class, so the prof won't notice...
"Nice of you to join us miss... Care to explain your tardiness?"
CRAP! "Um well... I'm not fee feeling to great... I just finished throwing up in the women's bathroom. Is that enough information for you sir?" Maybe that'll shut him up.
"I see, now lets get back to the syllabus. Will someone please fill in Miss... I'm sorry what is your name?"
"Linda. Linda Kent, sir and I'm sorry about being late."
"It's alright Miss Kent, just don't make it a habit. I'd prefer you just not come if you're going to be more than a few minutes tardy."

OOC: Ok, so that's London, Paris, Metropolis, and Beijing saved, or about to be saved. Fate will handle Tokyo and three other cities, so that leaves four more missiles to take care of. Hector broadcasted the message to all of the heroes, so any of them can help.
The remaining cities that need savin' are: New York, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Madrid, Cairo, Rio De Janeiro, and Moscow. As I said before, Hector can take three more of those, so that leaves four more to save.

"Oh, thank you Harley..." started The Joker.

But then he was cut offf by the sound of approaching sirens.

"Oh, we'll be having company," laughed The Joker, "So I guess we'll be able to test out your theory about cop cars."

The Joker jogged into the toy store. He quickly scanned the shelves, before he spotted what he was looking for. He ran out of the toy store with it cradled under his arm, and went back into the gun store. He came back out, panting slightly from the running back and forth.

"Harley, be a dear and place this downstairs..."

...

A couple of minutes later, two cop cars pulled up outside the shopping mall. Two cops got out of the first car, heading inside the mall. They looked around, spotting the dead guard. Then they saw something strange lying on the floor. It was a jack-in-the-box, winding by itself, playing a little tune.

The two cops looked down at it. When the tune ended, the little clown burst out, causing the cops to jump.

"Hey," said the first cop, "What's that in his hand?"
"I dunno," replied the second cop, "Looks like...a pin?"

They looked up, just in time to see a grenade falling back down towards the ground. They didn't even have time to scream, before both were blown to oblivion.

Outside, the cops in the second squad car heard the explosion. They were about to get out the car when they heard the sound of shattering glass overhead. They looked out their window, and saw The Joker standing by the shattered window on the third floor, wielding a bazooka.

"Time for a BBQ, pigs!" he shouted, firing the bazooka.

The missile hit the car, blasting it, and the cops inside, to shreds.

"BOOM!" shouted The Joker, "Harley, get the marshmallows! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!"

"Awwwwww you like your prezzy puddin" Harley said dreamily as she walked to the window and saw the devestation outside.

"Oooooh mama that's one mean bazooka.I wanna play,I wanna play" she said as she ran over to Joker. He grinned and handed her the bazooka.

A third police car was arriving. From the speakers a voice shouted "You there at the window.Drop your weapons and surrender. You're under arrest".

"HA! Not in this lifetime bub" Harley shouted as she aimed the bazooka at the car.BANG she blasted the car sending it 5 ft in the air and came crashing down with an explosion.

The coast was clear. But they could hear more sirens in the distance.

"I think it's time we get movin puddin.Bats might be on his way too.And we really wanna be ready for that big galoot".

They ran back down the escalators and out thu the front doors. There was flames and debris everywhere. They made their way to Joker's car which had been hidden in a nearby alleyway.

"Let me drive Mister J.You just sit back and relax. We'll take take the scenic route back to the old amusement park" Harley said as she started up the car and they sped out of the alleyway and down the street with Joker's laughter echoing all the way.

The red brick street was cracking underneath the Scarebeast’s weight. Looking over at the two Batmen, he lunged at one and picked him up. He could sense the man’s fear rushing out and into reality. This monster didn’t need fear gas, he had the power to make any fear reality.

“yOu’Re nOt ThE BaT. YOu’Re SoMe ******* wHo ThInK’s He CaN MaKe AnY bAd Guy FaLl wItH fRiGhT. LEt’s SeE How YoU HanDle ThE MOST FrighTening ThInG OF All,” said the beast as Nightwing’s fears came to life and started attacking him. This was going to be one hell of a night.

I watched as Scarebeast took Dick and flung him around. I watch things appear around him--his fears come to life. I didn't notice anyplace where he could have held any of the new fear gas he created, so it must be radiating from him.

Apparently, he now has the ability to generate fear from someone.

The last time I faced Scarebeast, I needed to operate in a robotic suit and had the location advantage of it being in the Batcave. Here, I only have a slightly armored new suit and with a slightly weak knee and was fighting him in the middle of the cracked Keystone street.

This was going to be a hell of a night.

OOC: Just reminding the rest of the guys that we still have a fight to do.

The people of Metropolis who had survived and had not relocated after all of the destruction that had rained down on them over the past few months looked up in the sky as one of its most famous citizens flew over their heads.

"Look up in the sky!" one person cried.

"It's a bird!" called another.

"It's a plane!" yelled a third.

"It's Lex Luthor!" they all shouted at once.

Although it wasn't really Lex, but another famous Metroplis denizen, Rudy Jones. The Parasite. Rudy had merely stolen Luthor's form for the next little while. He had also taken on Luthor's role as newfound protector of Metropolis. Using the battle suit that the real Lex had fasioned for himself in order to combat Superman, the Parasite flew into the sky to meet the missile head on.

"Well, at least I'm not bored any more," Rudy said to himself as the warhead collided with him.

IC:Oracle

I've been sitting here for...so long that I don't even know anymore.Or care any less about it either. The man called Professor Rodor is apparently bustling about in the kitchen, making coffee after laying eyes upon me and commenting that I was evidently in 'dire need of it.'

I can't say I am, really, but still let him go ahead with the task of preparing me one anyway. Seated at the dining table set in the far corner of his rather luxurious apartment,my eyes find the blaring but muted television screen yet another time. I look away.

I'm done with all pretense. I can't stomatch any more devastating images of demons and people burning and the futility inherent in the images projected of the JLers in the midst of it all, actually thinking they can make a difference and not be the next dead body that is broadcasted through the news. The world as I know of it is being torn apart once again and I am not going to shrug the reality of it away by bathing myself in a false sense of hope and security. People are dying. So obviously that it is an impossible a task to ignore. Almost as impossible as the simple hard truth of the matter that I cannot do anything about the situation at hand.

The apartment, I noticed at arrival, is not short of equipment which may have the possibility to help prove myself as a useful, active, member of the JL. But I declined Rodor's offer of 'getting to know his computer system.' I decide I will do what I am best at. Stay here 'safe' until whatever is happening out there happens and probably take on the role of a spectator too. Because after all...it is what I have been doing whether I like to admit it or not...

Professor Rodor clears his throat and seats himself beside me, setting a steaming mug of coffee in front of me. The familar smell of the dark chocolate liquid in the mug is tantalizing...and very reminiscent of dad's apartment...

"Thank you." I add as a second thought, before taking a careful sip of the liquid. He does the same and we sit in silence as the TV screen throws shadows across the insufficiently illuminated walls of the room. Dad doesn't like living in the dark like he does...his apartment is always as bright as he can manage to have it...I glance up at the Professor who is staring intently at the screen...Would it be too much to ask him to take me home to Gotham?

I have just only realized that I hate this place and the watchtower and the JL and don't want anything to do with them. I want to go home. And stay there alone so that no one can leave me behind... to the clocktower...no, I can't. Its been destroyed...

As the corner of my bespectacled eyes start stinging, I hastily gulp down the hot liquid. The Professor runs his weary eyes on me and I look down at the swirling mass of dark coffee, determined not to meet eyes with him. And oh yes... I am so sick and tired of this itself...

"Are you sure you won't at least take a look at the computer system available here?" He asks once again, "I realize it may not be nearly as sufficient as the one you must be used to...but-"

"No.Thanks." I respond curtly, once again.
or1.jpg

I hear him heave a great sigh, as I look down at my fingers playing with a loose thread on the side of my jeans. "Very well then." He stands up and I can feel his gaze on me, " The guest room is right at the end of that hall there. " I turn my head silently to the side and take a glance up teh darkened hallway. Yes...I do want to go to bed...curl in a corner and acknowledge the full reality of the indifference my existence makes...But he was here. I don't want to have him carry me there or anything...I could try walking but...I don't want to fall...at least not in his presence...

"And please if you need anything, do not hesitate to ask.DO make yourself at home...I ...uh...have to go down to check on something in the lab downstairs..." His feet make silent noise against the carpeted floor as he walks away and I raise my gaze to see him go.

"Oh!" He turns around imeadiately, "Oh! I am so sorry! It completely slipped my mind! Yes, I am sure I have a wheelchair down there somewhere! I'll go bring it up right at once."

"That's not-" The words die in my throat as his words penetrate me in a way they weren't intented to...I feel as if I've been slapped, the final blow. Setting the mug cradled in my hands on the glass table, I look up and realize he's gone. I take a glance in the direction of the hallway and try to measure its approximate distance from right here...If I can walk over...? Is it possible...?

Clutching the side of the table, I stand up shakily, the muscles in my legs feeling characteristically like cement.Taking a deep shuddering breath, my blood singing in my ears, I force my leg forward. And the other one. Before I know it I have walked the lenghth of the table.

Excitement courses through my body and a quick look towards my destination, for once, seems just that, so simple and close. Something far from impossible. I force myself to walk two more steps all the while holding on the edge of the table...

I look at the hallway...almost there...

I haste to make it across, I let go of my grasp on the table and am standing, unsupported in the middle of the dimly lit room. My legs feel the full weight of myself and with a sense of exhilirating excitement, I take another step...and another and before I know it, I fall...

*Seeing two missiles fly over me, I look up and fly after them.*

"Ring, destinations for the two..."

~At this trajectory, one will hit New York and the other will hit DC~

"Dammit. I hate Earth."

*I shoot two beams of energy out from my ring. They form into two huge hands and grab the ends of the missiles. The force, although extremely powerful, is no match for me. I slow them down, but they are volatile. I had no way to disarm them without setting them off.*

~Sir, may I suggest...~

"Shut up ring, I'm thinking!"

*I glowed a bit brighter*

~But sir...~

"Hold on a minute, ring!"

*It glowed even brighter*

~SIR!~

"WHAT THE ***** DO YOU WANT!!!"

*In a burst of anger, my energy increased in power and the two missiles fizzled and shortcircuited. They were useless now. Good.*

"What is it ring?"

~The missile heading towards Madrid...~

"What about it?"

~Sir, turn around.~

*I turned around, only to see the missile hit me in the stomach, detonating above the skies of Keystone*

Kyle is too dazed from Cold's punch. I find a broken pipe on the ground and hit Cold in the back of the head with it. He turns around. He looks very angry. Just as Cold is about to deliver the killing blow, Kyle blasts him againsta a wall, knocking him out. We both colaps to the ground. kyle passes out. I'm not that lucky. I look overhead and see missiles shooting through the sky. What a world.

The Tokyo missile enters the dimensional portal Fate had opened, and disappears.
Using a scrying spell, Hector discerns that the missiles heading for DC, New York, London, Madrid, and Metropolis have been taken care of…but, his heart sinks to his stomach when he senses that the Metropolis and Madrid warheads have been detonated. As much as it pained him to leave the cities at the possible risk of nuclear fallout, there was nothing he could do about it now. And Moscow needed him now.

Hector Hall steeled his resolve, and teleported into the path of the WMD heading towards Moscow. Again he opened up a dimensional portal, and again the missile was swallowed up. Next stop, Cairo. Appearing two miles outside the city, Hector Hall once again was able to get in the missiles path and trap it in a dimensional rift.

It was getting close to the wire, and there were still two more missiles left, taking a quick scan, Doctor Fate disappeared, heading towards Rio De Janeiro. Appearing in the skies a mile outside Rio, Hector is horrified to see that the warhead was already past him.
“NO!”
Like a rocket, Fate took off after the nuke, following it as it closed in on the city of Rio.

There was partying going on the streets of Rio. It was that time of year, and Carnaval was in full swing. A parade moved down Avenue Rio Branco. Thousands upon thousands of people watched the parade and danced in the street. The music of the Samba hit Hector’s ears as he closed in on the missile. The warhead was now dropping into the heart of the parade. People saw the rocket streaking towards them and began to panic. The streets erupted into chaos as partiers tried to flee for there lives, even though they knew that they would never be able to get far enough in time.

“No more deaths, Mordru. You have killed enough!” Fate screams, as he reaches out and opens up a portal right in front of the whistling warhead.
The nuke is about to collide with the ground in between two floats…when it suddenly disappears in a blinding flash.

Fate breaths a sigh of relief as the warhead vanishes into the dimensional void he created, mere feet from the ground. Still, Rio was not out of the woods yet. There were still thousands of frightened people, and that could be a dangerous thing. Flying high above the city, Hector cast a spell meant to calm the public, “Do not fear, my friends. My name is Doctor Fate, and I am here to help you. The danger of the warhead is over. I have sent it to a dimension where it will harm no one. You must keep your composure and remain calm. If you do not, you may end up doing something you will regret. You have nothing to fear anymore, I assure you.”

Hector disappeared after it seemed that his magically backed words had stopped the potential rioting. He was not out of the woods yet. He still had to help with the nuclear fall out above Keystone, Metropolis, and, more than likely Paris, unless Flash had found a way to divert the missile away so it would cause no harm.

The people watching from the ground of Metropolis watched as the missile rammed who they thought was Lex Luthor. But no explosion came. The missile continued on its path towards LexCorp Towers.

A hush fell across every citizen of the City of Tomorrow as they anticipated their doom.

Meanwhile, on the body of the warhead...
The Parasite used the inertia of the missile to enhance his strength enough so that was able to grab onto the steel outer casing of the missile, his fingers digging into the metal. "Christ! I better be gettin' hazard pay for this!" Rudy shouted to himself over the roar of the thrust.
He climbed along the hull of the projectile, eventually reaching the manual control panel. When he attempted to open the panel, he found it to be magically secured in place. "Godammit, Mordru. You just had to make me do this the hard way, didn't ya?"

Bracing himself for his potential crispy frying, the Parasite used all of the strength he could muster to punch a hole into the side of the missile and reach towards its nuclear fission generator. The heat from the generator began to burn away at the armor of the battle suit, exactly what the Parasite was hoping for.

The heat was tearing off chunks of the armor all over his body. Finally his hand inside the casing of the missile became fully exposed. "Thank God." Rudy reached for what he felt was the furthest he'd ever reached in his life. The generator's power was within his grasp.

"YES! I'VE GOT IT!"

The missile's explosion echoed for miles.

"You knoked out Captain Cold and then you passed out. Oh, and I saw some missiles flying overhead. I'm no expert, but they looked like nuclear missiles. I'm pretty sure that's a Green Lantern specialty."

OOC: Fate sent a message to all of you, mentally, so you all know what's going on.

LA is the only city left that has a missile streaking towards it and no hero to save it.

OOC: Well......uuhhh......Kyle and The Quesyion's fight with Captain Cold happened befor that. Yeah. That's my excuse.

"YES!"

Just then....

“Hear me, Justice League! Mordru is defeated, but the danger is not over yet! With his last act, Mordru released twelve nuclear warheads against twelve cities across the planet. "You herd him. GO!"

OOC: Now that Question's free, maybe he should help with the Bats against Scarebeast. ;)

"ON MY WAY!!!"
*SHOOTS OFF IN A STREAM OF GREEN LIGHT*
In a matter of seconds I am in between the sky and space, I see one of the missles rocketing down in front of me, probably the one heading towards LA, this things gigantic. Its about the siz of an entire NASA spacecraft. I try grabbing it with my rings power. I spawn everything I can think of to stop it: a net, a fan blowing the other way, a sling shot. It breaks through all of it. Theres one last thing I have to do. Throw myself in front of it
I shoot to the front and push my hands into the metal. The force of this thing is incredible, Im going down miles per second, I dont know if I can do this.........

Everything is happening at once. Mind-controlled innocents are assualting me. A huge monster is throwing me around like a rag doll. A nuclear warhead is heading for Metropolis. And, a huge explosion reaches my ears from the direction of Metropolis.

It seemed as if the Metropolis nuke had detonated and I fly there as fast as I can, hoping against hope that I can still save the city.

OOC: I have no idea of what I'll see there, so I'll wait for Spike.

From the large cloud of flames and smoke that covered the skies of the great city of Metropolis, a small figure began falling towards the ground, helpless.

People screamed at the thought of their beloved Lex Luthor, only having just returned from his long slumber recently, dying to save them.

High above the city, the Parasite could barely keep himself awake. It was all he could do to remain in his assumed form of Lex Luthor. The power from the missile had overwhelmed him and completely taken Rudy by surprise. The only thing that kept the Parasite from falling unconscious was the beautiful sunset and the bane of his existance flying towards him.

Rudy tried to activate the jetboots on his battle suit to keep himself from falling, but looking at his feet, he realized that the majority of the battle suit had been burnt away, leaving only charred scraps of green metal covering him.

"Oh f**k. I guess it's up to the big blue boyscout to save my ass from falling to the sidewalk and becoming street pizza," said the Parasite as he awaited Superman to... *sigh*... save him.

I get a call from Batman. He says he and Nightwing need help. I rush to coordinates he gave, and I see Batman and Nightwing fighting an 10 foot tall cro magnon man dressed as The Scarecro from The Wizard of Oz. I didn't happen to accidentally swich the gass that changes the color of my cloths mith my meditateive peode, did I?

I run over to the beast, jump up on it's back, and smash some spare gas canisters in it's face.
