Lets be real here, Rock vs Cena II and Triple H vs Lesnar got weak reactions at WrestleMania 29, while Punk vs Undertaker was the hottest match. It didn't matter though, did it?
Apparently it didn't matter much to Punk either.

Punk probably appreciated the crowd reaction but it wasn't going to lead to anything, so I can see why he wouldn't care about wrestling Taker. When was the last time someone's stock went up after facing Undertaker on PPV?

Edge?

That might be it. I feel like when full time guys usually face Undertaker in a big feud the WWE doesn't do a good job of handling the guy after he loses to Taker. At least for the first few months after the feud.

We're entering February and we have had some pretty great wrestling matches already.

Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kota Ibushi from Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4)-*****
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Kazuchika Okada from Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4)-*****
Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins from Royal Rumble (1/25)-****3/4
Aztec Warfare from Lucha Underground (1/7)-****1/4
Go Shiozaki vs. Joe Doering from New Years War Night 2 (1/3)-****1/4
Tomohiro Ishii vs. Togi Makabe from Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4)-****1/4
Dangan Yankees vs. TMDK from New Year Navigation (1/10)-****
Prince Puma vs. Fenix from Lucha Underground 1/14-****
AJ Styles vs. Tetsuya Naito from Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4)-****
Alberto El Patron vs. Christopher Daniels from ROH Wrestling (1/25)-****
Minoru Suzuki vs. Kazushi Sakuraba from Wrestle Kingdom 9 (1/4)-****

Thinking about doing a compilation of the best matches of 2015 just for fun. I think 2015 is going to be a great year for wrestling matches. I can feel it in muh bones. :)

People can hate Russo all they want, but I'd take the guy back with open arms in a heartbeat. Anything to get this company out of the damn shape it's in!

No way. Just because the guy thinks the same way the most of us do doesn't mean he should be writing again.

There's only one man and one man only I think should be given a major amount of creative input that can pull the WWE out of it's rut and get it back to the level of popularity that it was in the late 90's and that is Paul Heyman.

Unfortunately, 1) Vince will never let that happen and 2) Heyman probably doesn't want that all that responsibility now. Supposedly he's all about his family life these days so being a lead creative guy would mean a 24/7 schedule.

It's most likely that he learned debating Vince creatively is like talking to a brick wall and it was even more of a hassle having Vince,Dunn and Steph gang up on him back then.

Thankfully Steph is now a branding officer and not in creative but Vince/Dunn are still overbearing as all hell.

If HHH/Rhodes and Ryan Ward were running the creative without Vince/Dunn BS, I'm sure he'd be open to it. I mean two summers ago him and Zeb Colter did help with the Raws for a while.

Yes, Russo had a lot of bad ideas (Oklahoma, a lot of On A Pole matches, making David Arquette Champion, etc.), but he had a lot of good ones he doesn't get credited for. I'll be posting those in the cliffnotes tomorrow. His book has been a good read surprisingly so far.

McMahon and Russo worked very well together bouncing ideas off each other in order to make The Attitude Era arguably the most successful point in the company's history being adult oriented, using shock TV, and taking care of mid-carders.

They were Sherlock and Watson. You can't have one without the other. We saw that in WCW (where Russo couldn't get anything done during his short time due to management and certain talents not playing ball with him) and we're seeing that in today's time where the PG WWE can barely reach 3.0 in the ratings as McMahon doesn't have anybody other than Triple H to tell him no.

Thoughts on what's said here?

He said all the right things. I agree with everything he said. But we all know what would happen if the 'E hired him tomorrow. Just look at the above. Not totally outrageous statements.

Russo's biggest flaw is that he thinks anything that is surprising is good. I actually side with him on some decisions he made in WCW, namely his focus on pushing new stars, and his handling of Hogan at Bash at the Beach 2000. However, the guy just thinks doing random stuff is always great and his defense of horrible ideas amounts to "But you didn't see it coming".

Yeah and he doesn't realize that if he swerves the fans all the time, they'll eventually predict the swerve...making it no longer predictable.

Daniel Bryan also has to make Roman look strong

The numbering of WrestleMania establishes it's legacy immediately in a viewer's mind. It shows outsiders that WWE has a long history of success that can't be denied. Yet, Vince McMahon feels displaying WrestleMania's age is a bad thing. I don't understand that viewpoint because showing WrestleMania's age sets it apart as the most historic annual event in the business.

Don't care what Vince thinks. This is Wrestlemania XXXI just like today we have Super Bowl XLIX. Why take away the epicness of that? Stupid reason too.

With WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar still not re-signed to the company as of this past week, there is concern with WWE that Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 31 could flop and be as bad as Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg was at WrestleMania 20. A source noted that the match “has disaster written all over it.”

Plans for the actual match are obviously up in the air this far out and Seth Rollins cashing in is a contingency plan. Triple H didn’t want Rollins cashing in at the Rumble and this could be something he’s saving for if Lesnar re-signs or not.

Triple H and Vince McMahon both want Reigns in the main event but Triple H is skeptical of whether or not Lesnar will re-sign. We noted before that a three-way with Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reign for the title was discussed and it was actually Triple H who suggested that match. Obviously WWE stuck with the original plan of Lesnar retaining at the Rumble so that match won’t be happening. Reigns will still be main eventing WrestleMania and nobody expects another Superstar to be added to the match.

People close to top WWE officials say Vince is fully convinced he will get Lesnar to re-sign after WrestleMania is over. It’s been noted how many within WWE, including top officials, expect Lesnar to return to UFC after WrestleMania but Vince is giving the strong impression that he’s getting Lesnar to stay.

I mean this should be fun. If Mania 31 sinks like the Titanic then it's all on Vince...no one else

Well..... the good thing is that, if the shareholders and v
(various other higher ups that even Vine fears) decide to action after this (should this flop as bad as I pray it does), Vince AND Haitch will be targeted.

Both are equally to blame in this case, and both would pay if some sort of action was taken.

As malicious as it sounds, I hope that it flops so bad. It's just desserts. It can be the wake up call that Vinny Mac (mostly) and Haitch need. You do not deny the people what they want. Not in this age anyway.

Daniel Bryan Vs. Ziggler is the Wrestlemania match. Daniel Bryan Vs. Sheamus was the original match but Bryan wanted to work with Ziggler at Mania, so they gave him that match.

At this point, KUSHIDA and Shelley might as well come out to Power of Love or Back in Time. :hehe:
