The push of Daniel Bryan, and even Shield is likely an effect of the "Pipebomb".
I love that the documentary highlighted that Pipebomb gave Punk plenty of attention. ESPN, GQ, various radio stations, other areas...the man became an instant star.
The Pipebomb gave WWE what Vince craved: mainstream attention, and it didn't require a part-time wrestler/full-time Hollywood star like the Rock. All it took was a talented wrestler with an amazing ability to speak, and good booking. Bam! They got it.
The new belt isn't bad, it's just underwhelming. Especially with the decision to make it in the vein of the spinner belt instead of the classic championship belts that had great designs.
Cena/Rock II is the only rematch that needed to happen, and even they could've put them on the Summerslam card, or the Royal Rumble instead of Wrestlemania. Or they could've just dismissed having the rematch and did something different, like Rock vs Punk at Mania with Punk winning. That could've added a layer to the Cena/Punk feud: Punk able to beat the man Cena couldn't.
Triple H/Lesnar II on the other hand...didn't need a rematch at all. No one was really asking for it. This is about Triple H getting a win to balance the scales between them.
You're more likely right. I was saying that i think backstage, creative had their hands tied as I think these matches were set from last year. Hopefully we Cena/Punk next year. That rivalry has too much potential to not main event Wrestlemania. Say what you want about Cena, but when in there with other top talent, he can keep up and create classics.
Punk, regardless of Wrestlemania, will get another push, but I can imagine it being like The Rock in 99-00 and Vince making us wait for sometime, though there a PPV in Illinois though...
Two Wrestlers got me back into watching wrestling: CM Punk and Daniel Bryan. I hope Bryan gets another push as a singles wrestler and if they ever get screwed over there's a 90% chance I won't watch for a long time again. I stopped watching in 07 because it got stale and no new wrestlers were getting pushed at the time (at least I missed the whole PG era!).
I agree about the belt. It should have gotten more of a better balance between the spinner and classic. I can see the, introducing another title in a few year if this doesn't fully catch on.
