My favorite Punk moment is still the night he signed his WWE contract on the ROH World Championship. From meeting him in person earlier that day and being a real jerk to hating his guts to him coming to Cult of Personality in a suit and James Gibson (Jamie Noble) wanting to kick the **** out of him and Christopher Daniels coming out. Perfect.:up:

I was a fan of CM Punk's back in 03 and I will always be a CM Punk fan.

Punk broke down barriers for guys. I definitely believe his success lead to WWE being more open-minded towards independent talents and guys without "the look". I feel like the pipebomb and Punk's push made things better. Not to mention the countless great matches and promos throughout his career. Punk was a great performer and will be missed for sure. I'll always be a CM Punk fan.

I lost my ****ing mind when I saw the pipebomb....... primarily because I though Punk was losing his ****ing mind on live, WWE television.

I was pretty much done with WWE and wrestling period until The Pipebomb.

Punk definitely changed wrestling for the better that night, and in the 3 years afterward.

I'm not sure which segment I loved more:
Swerving everybody and taking the ROH World Championship while turning heel
The worked shoot on Raw
The post-match from his Dog Collar Match with Raven at DBD 2003
His final goodbye from Ring of Honor
Singing his WWE contract on the ROH World Championship

Pretty much anything from the Summer of Punk :funny: 2005 Was such an awesome year.

Cool beans. Hulk Hogan is coming to my local comic-con. :woot:

Punk was THE MAN back in 2003. Even then you could just tell he was a master storyteller.

As a fan, it's disappointing for his in-ring career to come to an almost abrupt end with little closure. And disheartening that the same creative BS that he worked so hard to overcome managed to finally take its toll on his mental and physical health.

While we can question the professionalism of his decision, as a person I respect him deciding that the struggle wasn't worth the results and is now apparently looking to replace it with more positive endeavors.

I am looking forward to the inevitable tell all book/interview though.

If guys like Bret Hart and The Ultimate Warrior can return to a WWE ring, I have no confidence that CM Punk is the outlier in that regard. I don't expect Punk to come back next month or next year or even 5 years, but I do see him coming back for at least one more appearance.

The man reignited my fire and love for the business again on this night!

Cheers Punk! Hope to see you again one day soon! :cwink:

Mine too! It was a group of us at the time. Me, Hunter Rider, Metallo, Kaleb, and I think yourself and several others. Lobo included. Our enthusiasm in the product was dropping. HBK had retired. I had hung on and kept watching hoping to see some new talent get breaks, but it wasn't happening. Cena was champion again. Rock came back but he didn't really set the world on fire for me.

The night of that lame RAW Roulette gimmick. I had heard Punk's contract was up, and was sad he was leaving. I figured he and Cena would have a good match, and Punk would put him over on his way out the door.

Then CM Punk sat on the stage at RAW and cut a promo so powerful is caught mainstream attention. So powerful, heartfelt, and tense filled. Was it real? Was it a shoot? Are they really allowing him to say these things?

I was wired that night. I couldn't go to sleep! I kept pondering what was going to happen next. That doesn't happen often. Wrestling became must-see television again. :D

Joe/Punk II is a work of art.

That match was definitely a clinic.

For me though, my favorite CM Punk matches are either his MITB match with Cena or his match with Brock. The former just had that epic feel to it and the build up created genuine uncertainty on who would win, which is rare. And the latter is just a hard hitting classic and that gave Brock Lesnar his best match since his return, and maybe his best match ever.

Man we must have went through about 3 wrestling threads in a day during that epic Pipe bomb promo.

Like I said, wired that night!

He definitely did. He brought personality at a time when scripted promos were becoming the norm in the business. He didn't play that stuff. He sounded real and authentic when he spoke and not like a cartoon. I can on my hand the number of guys in the company who can bring that right now.

Hopefully. Maybe sometime away and relaxation will reignite his passion for the business.

Just saw the Punk news, it's kind of a relief, I can stop watching now it's confirmed. I've been bored for months and I really have no interest in anything going on in WWE or any of the guys they are pushing. It's been a lot of fun though, especially this thread.

I'll miss you Hunter, always enjoy reading your posts and you're always a good sport. Catch you in the Hotties Thread! ;).

And about Punk...Thanks for the memories, matches, representing our city well and for pushing against the BS.

For me, he filled in a huge gap left by Christian and Jericho after they left back in 2005. I wish he could've gotten a proper send-off, but perhaps the way he left is very fitting for him. I'm sure well see him again sometime, but for now, enjoy your retirement Punk, you've earned it!

** SPOILERS ** For This Week's WWE SmackDown 7/18/14

Thanks to G_Moniy for the following WWE SmackDown spoiler from tonight's tapings in Fayetteville, North Carolina:
* SmackDown kicks off with Dean Ambrose in the ring. He's pissed off and talks about Randy Orton, Kane and Seth Rollins beating him down on RAW. Ambrose wants revenge tonight.

* Alberto Del Rio defeated Kofi Kingston.

* Alicia Fox vs. Eva Marie with Nikki Bella as special referee ends in a no contest when they both attack Nikki.

* Chris Jericho comes out and cuts a promo on The Wyatt Family. Jericho vs. Luke Harper is next. This was said to be a great back and forth match. Harper nailed a big powerbomb at one point but Jericho kicked out. Jericho put Harper in the Walls of Jericho but Erick Rowan interfered and then Bray Wyatt interfered. The Usos ran out to make the save.

* Jack Swagger and Zeb Colter come out to a nice reception for an in-ring segment. They're interrupted by Lana and Rusev for another anti-American promo.

* Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus vs. Fandango and The Miz is next. Ziggler and Sheamus get the win after a solid tag team match.

* AJ Lee and Paige defeated Layla and Summer Rae when AJ made Summer tap.

* Dean Ambrose vs. Kane is the main event. It ends when Seth Rollins attacks Ambrose. Kane brings in steel steps and chokeslams Ambrose. Rollins hits a stomp on top of the steps. This is apparently where SmackDown ended. Roman Reigns ran out for the save but we're not sure if it was part of the dark main event or not.

Elgin's promos have greatly improved since he won the belt. Seems like the satisfaction of him finally getting his moment is setting in.

For me Punk was cut from the same cloth as wrestlers such as Shawn Michaels and Randy Savage, and I fear he may have very well been the last of that breed of wrestler who had the ability to draw us in with not only his wrestling skill but his mic skills

I hope you'll be coming here to talk about NXT and other wrestling related stuff until the product interests you again. It would suck to lose you as a frequenter.

Don't leave, who's going to post diva pics?

Besides as you know, wrestling is not all WWE. It's TNA, Japan, Mexico, Old School such as AWA, WCCW, WWF etc.

The more I think about it, the more I want to see Sting feud with Wyatt.
Hell yes to this idea.

This ok for you, buddy?

Much respect. Thank you, sir.

So going by his recent tweet, CM Punk is done. Can we stop trying to come up with scenarios on how to bring him back and leave him alone?

#ThankYouPunk
Moved to the Alumni page plus that tweet. Sucks big time. Punk has always been brilliant wherever he was. I'm just glad he got the mainstream exposure he deserved.

That just gives you more time to watch different wrestling programs! :cwink:
