The Wrestling Thread! - WrestleMania XXX Edition - - Part 157

Just watched the trailer for the 'Legends House' show on the WWE Network and Gary Busey is on it!

:funny:

I agree that last night wasn't one of Undertakers greatest matches at WrestleMania and it does kinda suck that the streak ended with that match. But remember he was not 100% was dealing with a concussion and neck injury early into the match. At his age, I am sure it took all he had just to finish the match.

Even though you're joking, the more worrisome thing to me is that Raw is competing tonight with the NCAA National Championship... I could see Raw not popping a great rating tonight because of that & somebody backstage using it as an excuse that "Bryan doesn't draw," even though it'd be ridiculous reasoning.

If this was a year ago.. I'd worry about that too. However.. WWE really, really seems to be going into a new direction after last night. I feel it was a changing of the guard on ALL fronts.

Yup.

When Undertaker hopefully says his goodbyes tonight, I don't want Sting anywhere near the arena.

I'm starting to think that Punk would of actually of went over the UT last year but Paul Bearer death made had an effect on that match and they changed the match result because of it.

Possibly still in shock over last night's events.

Seriously though , he usually doesn't get to see the ppv until after we do.

Yeah, his reaction will be intriguing.

I've thought that all along.

We all knew he was winding down. I figured next year would be his last , but he threw a curveball.

I agree. Don't get the hype with Sting.

In ring wise, it would probably be similar to last night and that's not something I'm in a rush to see again.

They'd have to ignore Bryan outdrawing every segment for months and his merchandise sales.

During the match, I looked at Undertaker's physical state and thought, "Obviously he can't keep this up for much longer." Because I was taking it for granted he'd beat Lesnar, I was thinking ahead: "Okay, he'll likely fight Sting next year, that's 23-0. But that shouldn't be his last match. When would be a good time to end? I think 25-0 would be a nice number. Who should his next opponent be? I think John Cena should be 25, but who should be 24? Bray Wyatt? They'd have cool duelling entrances. WAIT WTF LESNAR WON!?!?!?!"

WWE Superstar Ezekiel Jackson, who has been out of action for over a year with an injury, wrote the following on his Instagram today:

"In July 2008 I made my #smackdown television debut with "Thee Brian Kendrick"… much love to TBK for seeking me out and choosing me. I was fulfilling a dream I had as an 8 yr old kid who saw and fell in love with professional wrestling for the first time through my neighbors window in #Guyana South America… On April 6th 2014 my contract expired so #WrestleMania 30 was #bittersweet. I thank God for all the blessings he's bestowed upon me in the last 7 years. In my time in the #wwe I became the last #ECW Champion and a one time Intercontinental Champion…

"I've also traveled the world given the opportunity to do what I love. Encountering some of the most passionate and reliable fans in the world… I am deeply appreciative to Vincent McMahon and the #WWE for allowing a snotty nose lickle bai from Victory Valley Linden Guyana to live out my childhood dream on the highest level. #Godspeed to the company and all of my friends and colleagues. #beblessed Extremely excited for the next chapter in my life. I'm looking forward to this new season…. I'm still 290 pounds and #healthy. I can be reached for bookings, sponsorship and signings through my manager at: [email protected] #Godbless"

- As noted, Christian wasn't able to compete in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania XXX because he hasn't been cleared of the concussion he suffered at RAW in Brooklyn. Christian's future was a hot topic backstage at WrestleMania last night. There is still no timetable for his return.

I'm glad he didn't. He still would have walked out and then you would have the guy that beat the streak not at Mania. Punk is a moody, temperamental jerk. I'm glad he didn't beat the streak and I HOPE that it was never the plan.

Sure, Lesnar can be moody too... but It's been reported many times now that he is who Taker wanted to lose to. Taker's earned that choice, IMHO.

In-ring wise, I'm sure it wouldn't tear the house down, though Sting has been able to deliver the goods on a few occasions in his latter years. But from a longtime fan perspective.... Undertaker/Sting has been a dream match for me for as long as I understood the concept of a "dream match." Back when Undertaker had the tie and the grey gloves and came to the ring with Paul Bearer, and Sting had spiky blonde hair and pink facepaint... it was a dream match. When Undertaker went all Ministry of Darkness and Sting took on his Crow appearance, it felt like even more of a dream match. It's one of history's all time great "What if?" showdowns, and even now, just seeing the two face off in the ring would make the kid in me mark out like crazy. The quality of the match itself is really just gravy.

Undertaker/Sting is definitely a dream match and would create some amazing promo packages and....that's about it sadly.

Very true. In all honesty, in reflecting on last night... while Taker losing is a huger shocker, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. The ending of the main event also surprised me a lot though, since I was under the assumption that Orton would take the pinfall or submission and instead Batista is the one tapping out clean in the middle of the ring.

I figured they wouldn't have done that considering he just made a return & they'd want to keep him somewhat protected... but hey, I don't mind how it went down. Orton & Bryan have great chemistry and they both can go in a lengthy one on one encounter. Batista, maybe not so much right now.

They'd have to ignore Bryan outdrawing every segment for months and his merchandise sales.

True true. I guess it's just the reports of Summerslam's low buyrate being blamed on Bryan that have me a little worried... at this point though, I'm extremely curious to see if buyrates mean anything at all to the company after the Network's launch though.

My thing with streak was, while I respected what it meant to the business, I was tired of it. Now every match outcome is unknown at WrestleMania.

Yea even though I like CM Punk even he admits he can be a moody jerk backstage sometimes. Last year, Punk said he wasn't excited about facing Undertaker at WM in an interview. Punk wanted to be in a main even at WrestleMania and since he wasn't gonna get that this year, he walked out. So its pretty clear he is done, even though is contract doesn't expire until July. Also, Hunter is butt hurt because CM Punk didn't want to face him at WM.

I do kinda agree with him about last year's Mania. CM Punk VS John Cena VS The Rock headlining the show in a triple threat would have been a fresher match, and a much better reflection of the storyline that ran through late 2012 into early 2013, than abruptly ending CM Punk's title reign and shuffling him out stage left in order to do a rehash of Cena/Rock. My disgust over that was part of the reason why I never bothered to order Mania 29 last year.

My brother threw this up on his wrestling blog on Facebook based on his facebook news feed really getting to him.

Once again I find myself considering leaving the "wrestling journalism" business. Wrestling fans are a strange bunch. I actually am finding people complaining that the best wrestler alive today won two matches last night, and FINALLY got a real grasp on the WWE World title. What kind of "wrestling" fan thinks that way? I just don't get it......

WWE finally puts on a PPV where the YOUNG guys are pushed, and all anyone can do is ***** and moan about the streak ending. Now if it were the normal discussion about wrestling, because something really got to you emotionally (that a few friends are doing) then fine, but I am sick of seeing all the posts about how much Mania sucked because of one loss on the card. I even see countless complaints about how CM Punk should have been the one to end it. WHY???? Do you think he still wouldn't have walked away like he did? So we'd have had a guy that ended the streak, refusing to participate at this years show. No thanks.

Daniel Bryan was MADE last night, like I've never seen the WWE make anyone. He single handily took out Evolution. Think about that. In one night the man overcame Triple H, Randy Orton, Batista, and Stephanie McMahon (I'm replacing Flair with her lol). When has anyone ever gotten anything like that in WWE? I kept waiting for The Shield to come out and help him, or Vince, or Shane, but it never happened. Instead, the WWE chose to allow Daniel Bryan, 5'8" Ring of Honor and IWC idol, take down three of the most powerful guys to ever step foot into a WWE ring! So what do most of us do today? ***** about Undertaker!

Ughhhhhhhhhhh

The Shield squashed three old guys, and people are *****ing about that! Please tell me why that was bad? Yes, I would have loved to seen more of The Shield, but having the NAO and Kane give them a good go would have been foolish. This is the mother F'n Shield! They are the best faction to hit the WWE is YEARS! They are NOT challenged by team 1995. smh....

Cesaro was MADE last night! That clip of him easily scooping up TBS and tossing him over the top rope, like a sack of potatoes, will be played for the rest of his career. He's a legit force, a new star, and on his way to the top.
The Wyatt family got to go against WWE's top draw in a MIDCARD match! This is awesome for numerous reasons. First, Cena stepped aside and gave the main event to Bryan. Second, Cena made you ALL believe he was afraid of the Wyatts. Third, that match told a freaking story! Yet I still see countless complaints that it was slow, and boring. The people saying that after also often the same damn people saying that places like ROH is for spot monkeys that have no ring psychology. No, I wasn't happy that Cena got the win. I think the story they told would have better if Cena has lost, because he REFUSED to lower his standards, and cheat. WWE felt differently, and I disagree, but if you still don't "get" that Bray an dhis boys were MADE last night, you're never gonna "get" anything.

While the Diva match was beyond stupid, AJ Lee retaining is a situation like that makes her even bigger! She retained against how many challengers? She overcame what odds? She's even a heel character, but won clean, with a tap out! WWE said "we believe in AJ Lee" last night.

Finally, that damned streak....YES, I agree that Brock Lesner seems like a poor choice to end the streak, but as I've been saying, what if he know goes on a tear, killing everyone, yet LOSES to Daniel Bryan, by tap out? Maybe, just maybe, there are bigger plans, that are good plans, that you don't know about? Depending on how they use this, will determine if it was a good idea, or not. Also, The freakin Undertaker decided on this. I trust him a little bit more than a bunch of "fans," that want to piss and moan all the damn time about things never changing, yet when they do, ***** and moan about that.
Last night Seth Rolins (Tyler Black), Dean Ambrose (John Moxley), Cesaro (Claudio Castagnoli) and Daniel Bryan (Brian Danielson) were made into mainstream, WWE, Superstars! A new direction was set for WWE, and the old guard stepped aside. That's been my dream for WWE for over a decade now. I'm just bummed to see so many "fans" that I thought believe like me, wanted what I wanted, and thought we'd never get it, complaining about a 50 year old wrestler, that can't go anymore, deciding to put someone over, that HE thought was worthy.

I thought WWE would screw Daniel Bryan over. I believed they'd let him taste success, but never really pull the trigger. I believed WWE would forever be the home of lumbering giants that couldn't wrestle, but last night they showed me that may no longer be the case. The man with the shovel (Triple H) allowed Daniel Bryan to almost dominate him in their singles match! I mean holy ****!

I just feel that I will never really "get" wrestling fans in whole. I spend countless hours doing this 'wrestling journalist" thing. I work 50-60 hours a week at my "real" job and spend every other free moment doing "wrestling" stuff. I just find myself wondering if it's all worth it, if there's a point to it? Maybe I should just go back to being a fan, and posting what I think here, and leaving it at that?

I mean after all, the Undertaker lost to Brock Lesner! sighhhhhhhhhh

I could have gone to WM 30 this year, but decided to save the money for a vacation for the summer. But now that the streak ended and Daniel Bryan won the title, I am kinda mad I didn't go. Everyone in the arena gets to say they were there when the Undertaker's streak ended and Daniel Bryan rose to new heights.....

Wise words from your brother... seems like a good point to end this thread and start a new one! :woot:
