I guess you missed the part about 'asinine fans' assuming the writers didnt read the material, not the director.

This thread is evidence that the writers of this script actually had some knowledge and inspiration from the comics.

Probably not. 95 % of the Smallville scenes in For All Seasons involved either Pa Kent or Lana. If I'm not mistaken, neither are in the film.

Superman looking at the sunset, Superman talking to his mother that he doesn`t feel like using his powers, Superman walking around with his dog. Sounds a lot like Superman for all seasons to me.

I imagine it might be tougher to do so with Superman, since there aren't so many graphic novels that stand out to me.

Those are three very small scenes in For All Seasons, and two of which you mentioned (Walking with Shelby and looking at the Sunset) involve conversations with Pa Kent.

The Spaceplane is ripped from John Bryne's Man of Steel.

As far as I know, the story of Lex creating New Krypton is new.

Eradicator? Nah. His story was pretty convoluted to me.

I prefer the classic Jor-El/Fortress thing instead.

STAS was smart in ignoring Eradicator but using alot of his characteristics in Brainiac. Hopefully the SR sequel will do the same.

Singer whether the comic book part is true or not, always has documernted his love and never ending viewing of Donner's STM.

He knows his Superman.

But it's from the Donner movie. I like the movie too, but it's like me wanting to make a movie about the Flash and just watched TV show for reference.

I know that Bryan loves Superman, but I doubt his knowledge on the mythos. Before he started the movie, I BET you he knew as much as any average person knows...the basic mythos.

And I'm not saying that Superman Returns will be bad either. I'm no hater.

My question is this: Will he do the same for the sequel? What about the other villains (Brainaic, Metello, etc)? Will he do enough research? He has access to the DC archieve..

wether or not Singer read the comics, he's smart enough not to drastically change the mythos (polar bears guarding the FoS, Lex being Kryptonian, etc). he's not making this movie purely for the toys or his ego. he's proven that by flying 12 hours from Austrailia to San Diego for the hardcore comic fans of 2005's Comic con. do you think Burton or Ratner would do that for the fans? hell, McG couldn't even muster up the balls to fly TO Australia! we might not be getting a 100% original Superman movie but i like to think of this movie as a happy medium. we can (sorta) imagine that this movie is the start of a new franchise but it also appeals to the masses...

...plus, Singer is just doing what he does best....making MOVIES. he might not be making a typical comic book movie (Blade, Daredevil, Hellboy) but you also can't blame the man for doing what he's good at...

Plus....let's be honest......alot of times....even the comics don't know Superman. Only recently has Superman.....and Batman as well.....come around back to their roots.

You've got to give a link to that quote. I had suspected as much but to hear that the director of a Superman film has never read a Superman comic is shocking in the extreme. I don't care if the scripters read the comics; Singer is the main filmmaker here. Also, I didn't want a comics story to be adapted verbatim for the film; don't get me wrong. But if you're making a film of Superman which is FIRST AND FOREMOST a comics character, you have to have read the comics for inspiration. To only know the character from one film (which isn't even a very good film at all) and some other TV adaptations and to ignore the 68 years of Superman lore is unforgivable.

I'm not some comics fanatic; I've only been reading the Supes comics in preparation for this film. However, Singer saying he's never read any Supes comics and apparently being resistant to doing so is like a filmmaker saying he's going to adapt "The Great Gatsby" and only watching the Redford version and never reading the novel. It's just ridiculous.
