The Writer's thread (Authors, Screenwriters, playwrights, etc.)) - Part 1

Thanks CC.

I set up a gig with a professional editor to get my book fixed up. They agreed to do it for $50 and over two weeks, so I'll be re-uploading a better version of the book when it's done.

For now, I'm pretty sure I'll be taking it down until I get it fixed.

Cool. When it gets back up, I'll give it a read. Wish you success.

Congrats on your book release KevanG, hope you find success with your writing.

Still reformatting my script into an Ebook format. I'm still into the script phase of things of page count vs word count, etc., etc. The story itself is almost done, meaning written down, and then I'll start playing around with content.

Thanks CC.

Dang, 50 bucks is a great price for an edit.

Are you planning on doing paperback? I use createspace. They do great work.

So, I spent this past month reformatting and breaking down my script into my manuscript/document.

I'll spend November making any story changes, etc., mainly anything I loved from the script that was cut due to constraints.

Hopefully for December, as a final run through, change perspective, etc., and for January to February, maybe into March, edit and format the document myself into the eBook, design the cover, etc., etc., and we'll see how that goes.

That distribution course I took eons ago is really going to come in handy...

:yay: Thanks! We'll see how things go though. That is what I planned, and for me, things never go as planned.

Good luck mate anyway! I look forward to hearing how you get on. If it doesn’t work out first time just keep trying.

hellion, are you working on it daily or do you have set times where you work on your project?

Part of being confined to home with health issues is having all the time in the world to work on my project.

i'm sorry to hear about your health issues man :(

Sorry to hear about your health issues but this is a great way of making a positive out of the situation. Hope it turns out really well.

Life gives you lemons, make lemonade and all that...

Thanks again.

So...

This month, I'm still following my plan and I'm just adding little tidbits of various versions of my script into my document. Just a few lines, or scenes, that were cut over the years that I liked.

Next month is when I'll start crafting some new content for new chapters, and switching some stuff around.

My script/book is story of a group of brothers whose Father passes away and a month later they find out he was a superhero, or cape, the slang term for a superhero in this universe, and then they become heroes.

I think the biggest changes so far go to my antagonist, a super villain who's the uncle to this group of brothers. Over the years, feedback for him as been positive, and I think I just need a little something to make the character stronger as a villain, and a hero to villain. The one flaw character is the real lack of why he went from superhero to villain. So I think I may take him into a seedy direction, somewhat inspired by recent current news and events, with events from his past and time as a superhero and some sidekicks he may have had at his side, and some family drama that turned him from hero to villain.

Hopefully by January, I'll be focusing strictly on the editing of the manuscript, with February through March being the formatting into an eBook document, creating a book cover, etc...

What are you going to do for the cover?

Yep. I got a cover designed a few months back.

Ha, looks interesting and quirky.

Congrats!! Big achievement.

What are you going to do for the cover?

If I can, my two ideas reflected two ideas of my story.

The first or main idea is based for the cover is reflected from how I envision the story: a family story of this group of brothers with a superhero backdrop. The working name for my story is Brother's Keeper and with a cover focused on the brothers, I wanted the look of a family photo featuring the brothers, and in the small details, you would see the heroic disarray. Bruises or scrapes on the boy's faces, their costumes poking through their work uniforms and school uniforms, etc.

The second idea for a cover is themed around the villain who has death motif and would simply be the title on tombstone.

If I can, I'll do what I always do for design, a mix of drawing with photography and editing with photoshop and illustrator.

If my health issues get in the way, I'll go the stock image route, buy the rights to use an image or images, and edit to my content.

I've been so bogged down with writing my now second feature script that I forgot how much I enjoyed prose. I started a short story this evening. Hopefully it turns into something semi-readable. I need to mix up the writing I do. The rewrites on my script have been really monotonous.

Oh that's pretty impressive if you can do it yourself. I've got a friend who can help or I pan to pay a good artist to do one for me. Have already used one to draw a pic from my book and it turned out well.

Yeah maybe mixing it up will keep things fresh. Why do you think the rewrites have become monotonous?
