As long as Bryan Singer is connected to directing this series, I don't think we'll ever see Gambit featured in these movies. Plus, you have Gambit featured in the most trashed Wolverine: Origins Films doesn't help his character.
I would hope we see Gambit again. He deserves to reappear in this series. His suave, charming, self-assured persona is nothing like any of the others (a good contrast with gruff Wolverine and stiff Cyclops), and his powers are very different too.
I think Bryan will leave Rogue alone for a while but definitely don't see her with Bobby when this film starts. I think it will be shown that she's on her own
I have no idea what they intend with Rogue. But it doesn't sound like she is a flying superwoman yet (and maybe she never will be, though she could borrow those powers from others).
Halle is desperate for Storm to have a love interest. She wants that interest to be Wolverine. She's wanted that for years and was disappointed when Singer was setting up Nightcrawler & Storm in X2.
I've never heard this before. Only her speaking at Comic-Con to ask why Storm never gets any love. It's a fair point, though there probably has been little room for that subplot on top of all the other stuff: Wolverine/Jean/Cyclops, and Rogue/Iceman/Kitty.
It did seem like Storm and Wolverine might share some intimacy in X3 (as was written into the early script) but I'm sort of glad that didn't happen. It makes Wolverine look like a testosterone-driven sex monster and detracts from his feelings for Jean Grey.
If the Wolverine/Jean thing hadn't been so strongly portrayed, then Wolverine/Storm would be a good fit on screen. But it doesn't work within the current characterisation structure at all.
I don't see Nightcrawler and Storm being a very good match either. He's too young, impish and mischievous. She needs someone stronger and more assertive, or perhaps a bit regal. Looking at the source material, Black Panther is out (owned by Marvel Studios, of course) and Forge is not a very exciting character (and kinda redundant now they have Beast as the resident inventor/tech-expert). But if they could bring in Forge and make him a more central and dynamic character (new on-site inventor after Beast leaves to pursue politics?), that could work.
An older Angel might have been a good match, or a younger Magneto, but those are unlikely now we have what we have.
What Berry didn't realize was that her scenes with Cumming were her best in the series. Storm & Nightcrawler had great chemistry and I would have loved Singer to expand on their story.
It was a great scene on that jet but i didn't really see the seeds of romance in it. I also doubt Nightcrawler will ever be a regular in this series.
