[IC - Thomas Mullaney]
Unfortunately yeah, it was wierd...i woke up and found someone in my house missing an arm and for some reason it just never clicked what was happening until i'd thrown myself out of the window. My dad is gonna kill me for that.
I wouldnt be too bothered mate.....chances are he's dead.
Thomas looked in shock at Jack. How could he say that? His family were survivors. He didnt want to believe it. Jack quickly realised how insensitive he'd come across.
Dude..Im sorry....I.......
There was silence as Jack tried to rummage for an apology.Thomas turned and faced the window. He gazed out as he thought about his family. He was determined more now than ever to find his sister.
The truck continued down the road for a further 20 minutes before Jack pulled up to the curb.
Here you are buddy boy....listen im sure your sister is fine.Just take care in there dude...id hate to have to smash your skull in too.
He gave a smile as Thomas jumped out of the passenger seat. His hands were already starting to sweat as he faced the derelict looking building. He reached over to his bag and took one of the clubs out of it. He clutched onto it like it was the only thing precious to him in the world, his knuckles were white from the grip.
He made his way into the school grounds. A stench of flesh rose from the floor as he made his way tip toeing past all the bodies laying there. He daredn't touch any of them incase they were just laying dormant. His heart was pounding before he even reached the main door. Sweat formed on his forehead and started to run down the back of his neck too. He stood at the front door and pushed it slightly. It gave a soft creak as it swung open.
Thomas nearly threw up from the smell and sight he saw in the main reception area. Teachers and students lying in ruin, lims missing or torso's ripped open. This was the worst sight ever. He glanced briefly at the bodies, telling himself in his mind that none of them were Sophie. At this point he was right.
Bang Bang
Thomas spun around to see the front door shut quickly behind him. Damn wind. Hottest day but still a through draft to scare the crap out of him. He'd seen the films though so he shouldve expected that. Although his mind was elsewhere in here...it was on his sister, and the horrors he was standing over.
Another sound got his attention coming from a little deeper into the school. A slow dragging sound. He made his way slowly towards its point of origin. As he neared he found it coming from a class room. He peered slightly round the corner to see someone or something dragging the top half or their torso across the floor. Luckily it was facing the other way and so didnt notice Thomas slip past the doorway. He came to another room which looked like a staff room. Teacups and chairs littered the floor along with a large amount of blood. He walked in and noticed out of the corner of his eye, a shape slumped behind a chair. As he neared he spoke very softly so as to not startle anyone...or attract that thing in the other room.
Hello?
There was no response from the body but something else reacted. A muffled moan came from the cupboard at the back of the room. The doors were twitching as if ready to burst open. Thomas crept closer and with an outstretched arm, hooked the golf club around the handle and flipped the door open.
All of a sudden the school filled with an ear piercing scream. Thomas saw a woman fall out of the cupboard clutching something. Her hands were covering her face and shielding what looked like a body.
Thomas realised who it was.
Sophie!!!!!
His sister looked up to see the best thing she'd seen all day. Her eyes were red with crying.
Thomas.
She ran and hugged her big brother. A feeling of relief lifted off his shoulders as he wrapped his arms round her
Its ok im here now.
The teacher stood and looked at them both...She smiled but only briefly as a look of fear ran across her face.
Thomas saw this and spun round to find two zombies nearing them all. The teacher backed away to the wall behind the cupboard. She screamed as the figure slumped originally behind the chair had become animated and risen to its feet. They were surrounded. Thomas tried to find a way out but it was no good. He went to raise his club only for his arms to fall weak. He lost his grip and the club bounced out of reach. All he could do was back away. He'd come all this way for his sister but couldnt save her.
He hugged her and shut his eyes waiting for what could be the end.
Jack sat back in the truck. He'd probably been a bit harsh to the guy, but to be honest he didn't care. He'd just been raised like that. He watched as Thomas entered the school reception area.
A couple of seconds later a zombie stumbled in the door after him. Jack was tempted to go and help, but the survival instinct took over, and he stayed put. All the same his hands gripped tighted around a wrench he'd found in the back of the truck, and he fished out a chainsaw, among the items he'd found in the garage.
Then he heard the first scream. It was high-pitched, obviously a woman. Jack kicked the door of the truck open, and ran up the path to the school. If there was a female survivor, he was there.
He ran through a reception are full of rotting corpses and dead students, and down the corridor. He saw what appeared to be the staff-room door open and ducked inside. What he saw momentarily shook him. A pretty young girl, only a few years younger than Jack, and quite obviously Thomas' sister, clutched to Thomas, and a cowering woman.
"Tommy!" he shouted. Thomas looked at him bewildered.
He sighed and leapt forwards with the wrench, knocking the nearest zombie in the head, and breaking the circle. They turned on Jack. Bollocks, he thought. He looked up at Jack.
"Catch!" he shouted throwing the chainsaw over the top of the zombies to him. Jack held the wrench behind his shoulder, as if playing baseball.
"Batter up," he grinned.
