"Wake me when we get there or if we get jumped. "
Claire nodded, "Sure thing." And with that, Claire settled in sort of, moving into the side streets, moving a little slower. For some reason, they weren't as congested here, and mostly were restricted to the yards, or were trying to get into houses. Of course, there were gunshots, and other cars just flying by, some obviously HAD these flesh eating stumblers in the cars with them.
Make no mistake, she was truly gittery and paranoid still, but was finally starting to relax. Maybe not as much as her circumstance based companion here, who was sleeping quite soundly, but she WAS at least slightly relaxed. Enough that she wasn't getting in any wrecks, just the occasional swerve to avoid the blasted stumblers, which didn't seem to wake her friend, which left her worried that possibly he WAS becoming one or something. She saw how still his friend was back at the station before making his move, and to that extent, she made sure her left hand was pointing the firearm at Jonathan at all times while she drove. Fortunately, he'd probably stir around a little bit before noticing her, so she'd be capable of shooting somewhat on the fly, or at least she hoped so. Either way, he wasn't doing anything suspicious now, so her eyes were again on the road. It was slightly odd, in some neighborhoods, it was totally empty, like it hadn't spread there yet or something, or maybe they were just totally deserted. Some buildings you could tell were thick with them, as she could hear screaming and screeching in the dozens count from blocks away.
Claire made sure to avoid the freeway, and just stuck to side roads for the most part. Every once in the while, she'd see a standing squad of cops or civilians making stands or helping the injured, usually in the middle of some firefight. Always from at least a few blocks away as she passed them. Most of them having huge fires where they burned the bodies. This gave her some hope, and that maybe it'd pass. Obviously the local authorities could handle this, then definitely when the military got involved, it'd be no problem. Which reminded her... Claire flicked on the radio, and got mixed signals. Usually people asking for help, and sometimes asking where they could render help, some were reporting casualties, and then there'd be reports or overrunning, some apologizing for stuff, some asking to find family members. Stuff she'd never expect cops to say. Worse yet, it wasn't totally congested like she figure it would be. A lot of the time, she'd make out what they were saying quite easily, and she tightened her grip on the wheel to this fact.
However, Claire let out a huge sigh of relief as she pulled onto the outer roads of the town, leading to the very sporadic housing she lived in, and pulled close to her gates, which were open.
"Not good..." Those gates were suppossed to be closed at all times. It was probably Gregory who opened them for people who needed help or something. Hopefully he was fine. She pulled into the gates, pulling out the box in her purse, and pressing it to close, which the gates did, and stopped the car immediately afterward, and reached over to Jonathan, shaking him a little bit.
"We're here, time to get up."
