Back to the Future. Ghostbusters. Batman. Beetlejuice. Planet of the Apes. Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Men in Black. Numerous Disney movies.... Over the years, many successful films have spawned animated television series (with varying results). What I am asking is, have you ever looked at a particular film/franchise and said to yourself "This could make a great animated series"?

Here's my list:

Indiana Jones: An Indiana Jones animated done by Bruce Timm, similar to his BTAS style would blow my ****ing mind. It just seems so perfect for an animated series to me.
The Incredibles: I'm still pissed that there hasnt been a sequel.
Terminator: This one is a little "eh" to me, but frankly, I think a series set in the Terminator future would've been much more entertaining than Terminator Salvation was. :o

I heard that jurassic park was supposed to get a tv show. IIRC it was animated, but speilberg gave it a big  so, JP.

Jurassic Park wouldn't work.

At my age now, that's true....but at 4-5 years old, I don't think it would have really mattered - I thought the movie was based on actual events and asked my mom if we could move there:o:hehe:

Treasure Planet, was supposed to have one with Silver and the boy traveling through space
Star Trek 2009
Indiana Jones
Star Wars prequels between TPM and AOTC with Anakin and Obi-Wan as master and apprentice
Ice Age
The Patakis, a spin off of Hey Arnold
Finding Nemo
The Lion King, not based on Timon and Pumba
The Goonies
Explorers
Pirates of the Caribbean
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
The Iron Giant
Titan A.E.
Cloverfield
Watchmen
The Last Starfighter
Tron
The Dark Knight
Troll in Central Park, long overdue

Mystery Men: could have been as good as Real Ghostbusters

Kill Bill, anime style. It could be about the assassination squad's exploits before the events of the movies.
Maybe the Alien franchise, though I'm not sure what the story would be.
The Indiana Jones idea sounds cool too.

I can't see either of those two working at all. One's just not cut out for Saturday morning and the other..well...we all saw the Godzilla cartoon that followed the American remake.

Yeah, that Saturday Morning Watchmen video was good for laughs, but if it actually happened, Alan Moore would place a curse on the country.

Heh, I bet he probably would have preferred that to the actual movie we got.

The animated approach would be useful where an actor playing the character has aged considerably and cant reprise the role due to the demands of live action as the franchise is set in a specific period, or the particular character is, say, an immortal who doesnt age.

Obviously, the budgetary considerations come into play too. I'd truly love to see 2000AD get their arses into gear and get live-action adaptations of their characters up there on the big screen, without having to make consessions to movie studios [consessions that drastically change the essense of the characters] just so that they can get the budget needed to establish a look worthy of the source material like with Stallone's Judge Dredd effort.

But sadly after many, many false dawns, it still doesnt look like that's any nearer to becoming a reality.

Maybe the development of animated features is the way to go for them.

I've always wanted a between-trilogies Adventures of Han Solo series, with Chewie and Lando in the supporting cast.

I think the live action versions of both Indy and Terminator showed those concepts don't work as well on TV.

I don't agree with that at all. It's a bit unfair to just write them off because they didn't have some random number of seasons beyond the first.

And I loved the second season of Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Terminator if done right with the right voice actors and artist could be amazing.

This. Anyone who's read the comics and books that take place between this time knows it would make a great animated series. And it would be a breath of fresh air for anyone who's sick of seeing animated series' based on the Clone Wars.

That would kick ass.

Kick. Ass.

Sure, in theory all the cast could reprise their roles in live-action if it was set about 30 years or so after RotJ, but if there was a direct continuation after the events of Rotj, animation is the only way to go to cover up the ageing.

Pulp Fiction - THE ANIMATED SERIES.

haha just kidding
