No Way Home "There's No Place Like Home" - Andrew Garfield Returns As Webbverse Spider-Man

He really soaked up every minute he had. Every scene was perfect.

I love his little peace sign at the end. If this is the last time we see him I'm happy we got this sign off.

I was one of those people who just never gave Andrew a chance. I was bitter about SM4 being canceled and the franchise being rebooted with Andrew. Tobey was my Spiderman and I wasn't going to budge. I never watched either TASM movie in theater. To this day I've never seen the first TASM in its entirety. I have seen the entirety of TASM2 and did kind of like it. But the fact that both underperformed compared to previous films, especially TASM2 both critically and in terms of box office made me feel justified for ignoring TASM series.

Then I watched his interviews when he talked about TASM. Sounds like they had disagreements with the direction of the character and the story and he seemed really sad about how he couldn't do the character justice and satisfy the fans more. I finally started pulling back on hating his Spidey just cause. Then I saw NWH. I said this already but I'll say it again, Andrew was my favorite of the 3 when they were all there. You could say he got the best lines or whatever but I thought his love and passion for the character really showed in his performance. It doesn't hurt that he's an amazing actor as well.

I was never under the impression that Garfield was hated in the role. His Spider-Man movies may have been, especially TASM2, but if he had been given better material to work with, he could have been the clear frontrunner as the best Spider-Man on film. I wasn't expecting the overwhelming amount of cheering when he showed up compared to Tobey but I also have to take into consideration that a lot of the kids who grew up watching Andrew's movies are now at the very least in college.
I always liked his Spidey and Emma Stone’s Gwen a lot despite how TASM2 turned out. The film around them is not at their level.

All three are great actors, but in my opinion, Holland mostly skews too young and annoying, Maguire's a bit flat (especially now), but Garfield is, as he always was, just perfect -- dorky yet charming, goofy yet endearing, boyish yet adult.

I think one aspect that affected his Peter is that he is the least convincing loser. Maguire nailed that aspect.

My issue at times with Tobey was that he just took the “loser” role too far. I mean, he just seemed like Kirstens b****at times. Peter Parker to me is a character thats a nerd and has that loser luck…things never work out for him….but never came off as a punk to me at to me Tobey just played that aspect too far at times even after the spider bite.

There are times when MJ is talking to him and he’s just sitting there “Oh no…please no” and it comes off as a bit too weak and fragile to me. That’s not the Peter Parker I know. Peter Parker to me doesn’t lack a backbone and maybe it’s just Tobeys delivery or demeanor at times, but occasionally it just felt like that.

Just my two cents… make no mistake though….I do like Tobey.

Garfield is so damn good. He plays Pete’s introversion and his kindness in such an endearing believable way. Even just the way he smiles when he says “God, this is so cool. I always wanted brothers.”

Sorry Holland fans. He’s a really good dramatic actor, but his regular Peter voice is just so unbelievable to me.

IMO treat the first two TASM films like the first Thor films, then have TASM3 be like its version of Ragnarok. Or for another example, the first two TASM films is like the first four Fast and the Furious films, and TASM3 is Fast Five.

An ASM3 after this with competent writers and a lot of other caveats could be a really cool movie. It's gotta have an honest vision beyond what Sony had for ASM and ASM2 which was "dark and gritty rights-keeper, and big Avengers style world-builder." Like if we got a movie that comes from the places Andrew was able to manifest from his performance here and just tell a good Spidey story, that'd be great.

As much as I like Garfield I cant see how an ASM 3 would work

think the rumors of them bringing back Tobey and Andrew for Secret Wars is the Better router. A What If? Involving them would be a good idea as well

Honestly though...regardless of which Peter happens to resonate the most with any given person...what I really love and appreciate is that all three Peters ended up being distinct characters with great chemistry with each other. I view them now more like, say, the Ninja Turtles, rather than as competing interpretations of the same character.

When we get our Spidey no.4 we can have a Spider-Turtles spin-off.

One thing I really liked about Garfield's Spider-man is he was more natural and didn't put on the Eminem tribute act gestures. Andrew was also given some good moments as it felt like he still had something to work out post Gwen's death whereas Tobey's Peter felt as though he was in a better place.

I just wish some of the writing wasn't so meta, because I didn't want to feel like Garfield was beating himself up over the role of Spider-man, rather I'd just like to see that sort of commentary left out and them just concentrate on his arc post Gwen and dealing with Electro and Lizard.

I could imagine there being discussions at least between Disney and Sony about which Spider-man they could have going forward in their respective universes.

Garfield was great. A real window into what we were robbed of with those awful ASM films. He got a raw deal. His performance here reminded me that I was once excited about his casting and this is what could have been in a perfect world.

In the ASM films, I didn't mind a more jerk like Peter, as slightly misanthropic Peter was a thing in those early Spider-Man comics. It could have provided a great arc. Instead it suffers from inconsistency from bad writing and it came off as unlikable in the wrong way and Garfield suffered for it.

But here it was all remedied. Unlike the ASM films that got in his way, they actually utilized Garfield 's strengths as an actor. He has that quirky enthusiasm but general goodness that is essential for Peter and surprise! He's great! I really liked him here and it makes me sad that he never got his due in the ASM films because I could have really loved his Spider-Man. At least there's this. Fans of Garfield's Peter must feel pretty vindicated right now.

Loved the payoff with MJ. It was a great moment.

It really goes to show it was all the writing of those TASM movies that was the problem, but we pretty much knew that. Garfield was so damn good here, and if we could've had THAT in TASM movies, they would have been so good.

While I wouldn't say Garfield has been the best Spider-Man, he was definitely the best Spider-Man in this movie.

I'd rather see TASM 3 over Spider-Man 4 or another Holland trilogy. Maguire and Holland have at least one good solo movie, and I'd really like to see Garfield get one as well.

Funny, most of my mates prefer either Holland or Maguire but after watching this they said that Garfield shone the most here.

As one of those freaks who thinks Garfield is best I feel like my faith has been vindicated lol.
