Anyone remembered the old cartoon?
With the success of PotC, I believe Disney is more than capable to pull it off. Another issue is would they really want to. The DVD sales didn’t go so well but now it has been turned into a comic book so it should help.
I’d love to see a live action version but a full-length animated film would be just as satisfying.
Don’t you think so?

Greatest cartoon ever!

I'm all for it!

Yes, greatest cartoon ever.

Let me tell you why I hope they don't make a movie. Because the cartoon is, for lack of a better word, perfect. The animation, the voice cast, the writing, all of it was grade-A work. If they made a movie, I just have this feeling that it couldn't possibly capture how cool the show was. The show had a great mythology that would be hard to even begin to summarize in a 2-2.5 hour movie.

Do you get what I'm saying?

Yes, I completely understand what you’re saying, Jordacar. I too believe that they shouldn’t make a live action adaptation of every comic book or cartoon out there, especially if there’s a reason for it being what it was, like Aeon Flux or the Transformers. They lose something substantial in translation.
That being said, I believe Gargoyles, despite as much as I enjoy it, is far from perfect and in fact just as childish as Transformers. If they ever make an adaptation similar to PotC, meaning - a slightly more mature approach, in my opinion it would only help the franchise.
I think Gargoyles has always been the ‘most mature’ cartoon show Disney has ever made.

If a live-action remake is indeed to be done, a good way for a first movie would be to not feature the title characters up until the end, in that they're stone statues up until then and instead feature Xanatos and Maza more with the curse-breaking and unveiling at the film's climax.

An alternative would be to already have the curse broken and keeping them in the shadows in the early part. Maza could be brought in investigating a rash of brutal vigilantism in a bad part of town and the story would go into full swing when Goliath and Maza meet for the first time. Once again, Xanatos needs to be the villain in the first movie, though to what degree depends on the plot.

See, to me this sounds just like the Transformers movie - in the cartoons, the Autobots and the Gargoyles were given main roles, with the humans acting in the background. The T movie flipped that around and I don't want the same to happen to Gargoyles. Lately Hollywood has given too much an overrated role to the human side of the story. The Gargoyles are what we watch Gargoyles for.
And you do realise that you just pitched a 'Venom idea' from Spider-Man 3, right? That didn't turn out well either.

On the other hand I wouldn't mind Maza's character to take the leading role. I like your other idea. Whether the film would be built around medieval flashbacks or just a back story in the intro, the modern times should be the main focus. Still I think the awakening scene also should be included. It's pivotal.

If they could make it relly good I'd be in the theaters for it.

If they do make a L-A Gargoyles movie, Johnathan Frankes HAS to be Xanatos, no doubt about it, and Kieth David the voice of Goliath.

There were rumors that there was going to be a movie years ago. But now nothing.
This show will never get any movie now.
Disney owns it, and with the way the dvds sold poorly there won't be one.

Not really. I think one of the main reasons people watched and liked Gargoyles was because of the strong character and plot developments within a changing yet continuity-consistent universe. And as far as characters go, the most interesting and/or developed characters would be Goliath, Demona, Maza, Xanatos and Macbeth; of which 3/5 are humans.

Actually, at least in my opinion, the reason why Spidey-3 didn't work was because there was too much going on, which made the audience have a tough time keeping track of things. And as to why the Venom aspect didn't work, it was because a lot of it went unexplained and overall undeveloped, leaving the whole subplot rather hokey. Had it been its separate movie, with a tighter focus and better development, the Venom storyline could have worked even if the Brock/Venom combo appeared at the end of the movie.
