They wanted Keanu Reeves for Wolverine?

Antonello Blueberry said:
For Wolverine they approached also Gary Sinise, Elias Koteas, John Leguizamo (who wanted to be Nightcrawler instead) and Russel Crowe (pre-Gladiator). I think Keanu confirmed that he was asked to play Wolverine.
John Leguizamo would've made a pretty cool Nightcrawler,(I would've liked to see his take on the character) I wonder if they thought of him when it came time to actually cast Nightcrawler, in x2
but, for wolverine:huh: no

I could see Casey Jones workings in the role, but, might be to old now, he got all bald and stuff, he would've needed a wig

it's pretty interesting to think of the what-could've-beens.

angela bassett could have made an amazing storm, albeit, back in the day. granted, she still looks lovely and is aging gracefully, she is just past the believability of playing a superhero such as storm. halle was potentially an ok choice, but the character was written, directed, and fashioned beyond the help of anyone.

mel gibson actually does looke very wolverinish sometimes, but i'm glad we got hugh.

i hate you natalie portman!! why did you turn the role down! haha actually i dont think natalie or anna would've made a difference to me. that wasnt really rogue anyways...at least not the rogue i know and love. (you can spare me the "that was how rogue was like when she was introduced" denial because i'm fully aware of the comic mythology.)

famke and james were good but not great casting in my opinion. it really wasnt the fault of the actors but mostly just that they were not my vision of the two characters. and none of the other alternate actors are very interesting either. i love maria bello, but i just cant picture her as jean.

but it's over and done and i love the movies, even if it doesnt seem like it sometimes. i really do, though.

and to add, it seems like the blue characters get THE BEST casting. rebecca, alan, and kelsey completely owned in the movies!

Agreed...it would have been nice to see a green, diamond, or different colored character...they love the blue I guess.

yeah, it would've been nice to see some more color. call the NAACP. this is an outrage! :cwink:

let's see...diamond emma, purple psylocke, green polaris...

hmm. i guess blue skin is very popular in the x-world. there really are not other colors (for skin). i mean, there's blink (grey/purple skin), but she's not really a core character. that stretchy guy 'skin' was greyish. the skrulls are green, but i prefer no space stories. wolfsbane has brown fur. gawd, i know i'm missing someone really obvious. OH!! archangel!! haha he's blue too!

As good as Jimmy Marsden was I kinda wish Jim Caviezel had played Cyclops. Not only is he a better actor but I think Cyclops would have been insured a bigger role in X3 b/c of the success of Passion of the Christ.

i don't know and don't care what has been going on the last 3 pages but...

ANGELA FOR STORM!! IT WOULD OF BEEN TOO AWESOME too bad they didn't ask her.

HELL EVEN JEDDA would of been better than halle IMO.

And Sarah M. Gellar?! FOR ROGUE!?!

*Cries* WHY GOD WHY DIDN'T THEY!!! BUFFY!!!!

it would of been too good to be true :(

Gellar's hot and all but shes not much of a actress. Anna Paquin had an Oscar nom under her belt so I think the choice was obvious for Singer.

EW? Angella for Storm? all these people..im sorry but no way..the current cast can't be better.

I love that kind of topic.:yay:

Guessing and finding who was up or rumored for an Xmen part is one of my hobby :)

Some rumors highlights (imo) that i have found on comics2films..their sources were often the late much regretted corona coming attraction ( i was often a lurker of their forums :) )

CCA recently provides a rundown of casting rumors and stories.
Actor Sterling Wolfe, who has recently been rumored to be a contender for the role of Cyclops in the upcoming X-Men movie, checked in with Harry Knowles of Ain't it Cool News to set the record straight. Wolfe, who has appeared in movies like Payback and Austin Powers, told Knowles that he has read for the part, would love to play the part but he has no idea if he's a leading candidate or not.
" Consider it confirmed -- [laughing out loud], to say, as did [Corona Coming Attractions], that I made quite an impression on the 'casting supervisor' is strangely phrased, but yeah ... [laughing out loud] ... it's accurate. However ... it ranks up in the big 'who cares' bin. On this shoot, if you have not impressed [director] Bryan [Singer] directly, then it's basically meaningless," Wolfe told Knowles.
Wolfe later told Knowles that the " truth is that my agent has not heard directly from production in well over a month

Corona Coming Attractions reports that Loren Dean (Mumford, Billy Bathgate) may soon be announced to be the actor to play Scott Summers in the upcoming X-Men movie. Although no announcement appeared this week it is possible that CCA's information may be correct. We consulted with our source at Donner/Shuler-Donner on Tuesday. He told us they were very close to signing someone, but wouldn't give us a name. He did tell us that a deal should be completed and an announcement made within a week at the most. While this isn't exactly corroboration, our source's timeline does match up with that reported by CCA.

For Cyclops Corona mentions Ed Burns (Saving Private Ryan), Johnny Lee Miller (Trainspotting), Thomas Jane (The Thin Red Line), Luke Wilson (Rushmore), Jude Law (eXistenZ), Paul Rudd (200 Cigarettes) and Jason Lee (Chasing Amy).

Corona claims that Alicia Witt (Urban Legend), Charlize Theron (Mighty Joe Young), Selma Blair (Cruel Intentions) and Minnie Driver (Tarzan) are all in contention for the role of Jean Grey. In addition, AICN has heard that Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager) for this part.

An AICN spy reports that Bryan Singer has made a formal offer to Gary Sinise (Forrest Gump, Ransom) to play Wolverine in the X-Men movie. This news was allegedly gathered at a wrap up party for the movie Snake Eyes which Sinise appears in. The same spy also reports that the same role has been offered to Elias Koteas (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Exotica).

Rogue: Hot

Gellar: Hot

Paquin: Not so hot

Rogue: Tough

Gellar: Played Tough

Paquin: Somewhat tough (written rather panicky in X2 but was progressing)

Rogue: Rather Famous X-character

Gellar: pretty dam famous

Paquin: Not so well known

While i won't deny Paquin is the better Actress. Just think of one thing.

HAD GELLAR AN ALMOST A LIST CELEBRITY (BY NOW) PLAYED ROUGE, WOULD HER CHARACTER HAVE BEEN CURED OR FALLEN IN WITH THE BACKGROUND PROPS!?

Now i'm not saying she wouldn't have but because she's buffy who knows, i think it would of helped the characters Film appeal alot more. :)

Thank you Mrs. Cleo. :whatever:

For Cyclops CCA scoopers claim that Edward Norton is still in the running, getting a shot in the arm from his recent Oscar nod. One scooper reports that Vince Vaughn is supposedly being considered for the part, while another claims the actor is now considered too old. Speculation on CCA is that X-Men may be going with a youthful cast. Given that, two other actors mentioned for Cyclops are Keanu Reeves and Freddie Prinze, Jr. Remember kids: this is all just rumor and speculation so don't panic!
:o :whatever: :woot:

Other rumors include Julianne Moore (Boogie Nights) as Jean Grey.
:) :o

.............
A first time AICN spy reported a college speaking engagement by Bryan Singer "this past Thursday" (12/11?). There were many questions about the X-Men. Singer did not give a lot of information as he wasn't finished with the script. However, according to the spy, the Gary Sinise rumor was deemed untrue by Singer who said such casting would be "a big mistake." Angela Bassett was mentioned. They are shooting for a Christmas 1999 release. Furthermore, Singer has consulted with one (and only one) X-Men writer but plans to consult more when he completes his first draft. The article also states that "[Singer said] he would get the fans' money, but it was the people who aren't fans who he needs to get into the theaters

The article also mentions that Bryan Singer has confirmed the previously reported stories about Patrick Stewart and Angela Bassett, although no actual casting has taken place. Casting is expected to begin in spring of 1998 and the movie is slated from a Christmas 1999 release.

On Patrick Stewart as Professor X: "I've always thought Patrick Stewart was a really terrific idea for Professor Charles Xavier. But until there's a script and until you see how schedules work out, you have no clue on these things." On Angela Bassett as Storm: "She's expressed interest, and I think she's a wonderful actress."

The Pickup Shots sidebar on page 55 of the December 1997 issue of Premier has some coverage of the X-Men movie. It reveals that director Bryan singer has been talking to Patrick Stewart (Star Trek: First Contact) about playing Professor X and producer Lauren Shuler-Donner has been talking to Angela Bassett (Strange Days) about playing Storm.."

That picture of Gibson as Wolverine scared the hell out of me! :wow:
He looks more like the Wolfman than Wolvie!

Other than Patrick Stewart as Xavier, I'm open to other actors/actresses playing the other X-men.

That said, who would look at Dermot Mulroney? My Best Friend's Wedding dude? as Beast?!? He's more like a Gambit.

And a "Hell No!" for Buffy for Rogue for me.

Though i'm not a Halle hater i think Bassett would have rocked the house as Storm. She's not only a fantastic actress but also has a more commanding presence than Berry plus she's also got some sex appeal to boot.

If i was her and i'd be scratching my head and wonder why Bryan Singer didn't make a phone call.

Kevin Roegele said:
He was considered for it, and at the time he admitted he may not be right for the role.
I didn't know that. I'm glad they went with Jackman instead though and i kind of feel sorry for Dougray Scott.
