The Amazing Spider-Man This Is Not Ultimate Spider-Man - This Is Spider-Man 4: 2.0

All USM did was take an established comic continuity and just tweaked it for a new generation of fans. That's all. There was no revolutionary new ideas in USM. And frankly most of the villains were pretty awful. Only Ock (Pre Ockneto) and Kingpin stayed true to their 616 counterparts while still being somewhat different.

The Mephisto thing is just a drop in the ocean of over 45 years of 616 continuity.

Well, if you're simplifying it yes. But it took Spider-man and put him in high school, but in today's generation, something we had never gotten before. Bendis updated the voice of Peter to today's generation, and he did a wonderful job of that. I also enjoy his interpretation of Aunt May more then the traditional frail woman character that she was for most of her incarnation in 616.

In addition, USM Eddie Brock was tens of hundreds of times better in terms of characterization then 616 Eddie Brock.

And just because 616 is longer doesn't mean that it's ideas aren't horrible. Sure, it's a drop in the hat, but it was a horrid, rancid, stinking insult to the history of spider-man drop. Ten times worse then anything USM has done.

USM is not perfect, but it's had some good ideas. Again, Spectacular Spidey pretty much had the perfect blend (aside from kittyKraven, they could have left that out). SSM stayed pretty much mostly 616, but took the better parts of USM. Namely updating the voice of Peter to a modern generation, and USM Eddie's character development.

Oh ye of little faith. Smart though. :hehe:

Looking at Nolan's Batmovies (or what little of his other movies I've seen), I have no faith that he'll make the type of Superman movie that I want to see.

It does pay to be cautious.

But look at Inception, that has a lot of drama and action. I do agree,Superman by Chris will probably not be exactly how we imagine, but I have good faith that it wont blow and if it is like Inception, one needn't worry.

I have no desire to see Inception, and I don't care about drama and action. Begins and TDK had drama and action, but they didn't have the one thing I look for in a comic book movie, fun. They weren't fun and they took themselves too seriously (TDK is more guilty of this, which is a shame due to the Joker being in it).

We'll, he's just producing it. It's his job to basically put the right people in place to make the movie, not for him to make it himself. If the Superman reboot is supposed to come out Christmas 2012, then Nolan will be busy that entire time with Batman 3, so who knows if he'll even be able to visit the set. I think you're overestimating how much he'll be involved creatively.

Too bad. Based on the early word, you'll definitely be missing out.

Not... another.... Nolan.... TDK.... thread... ah who am I kidding... Nolan/TDK this thread up. It's the only thing that matters. Ima try video taping my dreams until Inception comes out.

I only mentioned it because it was mentioned, and everyone seems to ride Nolan's Dark Knight hard.

True, they were both too serious...but I thought BB and TDK were fun and exciting in their own way.

Im sure Supes will have a far less serious tone and will be more fun in its own way.

As much as I was against the high school setting, I agree that having him in college (if that is in fact true-have they confirmed that?) truly nullifies the whole point of the reboot. Why did they even bother?

So just because he's in college nullfies doing a reboot? That's like saying because James Bond is still a spy that nullfies doing a Bond reboot.

They needed to do the reboot because Maguire sucked as Spider-Man. He was monotoned and not funny. Not to mention not a very good actor.

I will give you the three movies had heart and some great action. Hopefully Webb looks at number 2 for his action inspirations.

nah man...alot of people just love it cause its an insanely well made comic book film...the best ive seen...but lets not make this a thread about batman like everything else on here

Well at least it's good to know I am not the only fanboy that jumps to rash conclusions, such as starting a few years later than we expected automatically means it is a sequel instead of a reboot. I wonder what people would think of it if they still held onto the Bruce Cambell cameos.

I disagree with you (wasn't great but he wasn't bad), but even if you think his performance was bad, bad performances don't merit a reboot. If that were the case, than they would have rebooted Bond after On Her Majesty's Secret Service. The franchise was not in such a rut that a reboot was essential, which is why the reboot is stupid. Especially if they are bringing him to college and not changing much anyway. Why reboot and not loose sequel?

I'm gonna go ahead and sidetrack everything by saying JGL, and mark my words, will be the new Harry. What's that? It's been suggested already? Not in my world.

You want the real truth? They rebooted because ALOT of people hated Spider-Man 3. And because Tobey, Sam and the bunch started to ask for way to much money.

I see it as an opportunity to get Spidey right.

No, they rebooted because they're like little kids and think that "Whoops! Do over!" is a valid business method.

I told my co-worker about the casting news and she's pretty much sworn off any more Spidey movies, it was Sony's stupid impatience of not wanting to give Raimi more time to polish a good script for SM4 and now we have a so called "reboot" when it's just a simple switcharoo of actors.

But then again I can see why Sony didin't want to pay for Maguire and company increasing salary.

The best news ever is that it won't be based on Ultimate Spider-Man. 616 is the ONLY way to go.

Your thinking is too sane for your namesake.. ;) Or is this just a moment of clarity?
