Guardians of the Galaxy This one needs her own thread - Pom Klementieff IS Mantis

:hehe: This version of Mantis is going to be hilarious. A refreshing take on a female superhero, though I'm sure someone somewhere is going to raise a stink about it. I'd like to see her join the Avengers one day.

Yeah, someone will certainly say Mantis isn't serious enough

I would love to see her join too (and Valkyrie as well). Was that bit you said about raising a stink about her being too funny? I don't think so. People are used to comedy in marvel films now and I think she looks wonderful! Love her already

Umm, she was perfectly serious in the trailer. She looked shocked by reaction. Maybe a bit tactless and straight-forward...

I can't believe that they actually made her a humorous character. Ok, maybe she's not laugh-out-loud funny like Tony or Star-Lord, but she's still... unintentionally funny, which is exactly how I was hoping she'd be anyway.

And at the very least she's not yet another uber-serious Strong Female Character™ like... pretty much every other MCU (or Fox, or WB...) superheroine.

A refreshing take on a female superhero, though I'm sure someone somewhere is going to raise a stink about it.
Heh, if those lame hypothetical people are annoyed by Mantis, just wait until they're introduced to Captain Marvel or to freaking Spider-Woman. :hehe:

Basically what Vartha said, that some critics won't think she's serious enough. Especially as a female character, there seems to be the mindset that every female hero as to be like "grrrrr, I am so serious and empowered, because I am fighting gender stereotypes, grrrr." This Mantis is like a kooky, dippy starchild, and I think it's wonderful. I want to see her in the Avengers so she can interact with characters like the Hulk, Widow and Hawkeye. The insulting nickname Tony Stark will come up for her will be next level.

It's going to be interesting to see the contrast in her personality and badass fighting skills.

She's like E.T. with better English and less sex appeal.

I was just saying someone somewhere won't like her because she's not serious enough.

Ah right, then if that's the case those people don't know the character. I found her a lot like River Tam from Serenity in the comics, bat **** crazy with often hilarious results, but could kick ass when she needed to.

The moment we saw in the trailer got the first part down perfectly.

It's interesting, because for old farts like me, the first Mantis that springs to mind was the more human version from the 1970s, so this version of Mantis is very new and intriguing to me.

The newer version is great. I said back when the sequel was first announced she would be a character perfect for Gunn, and it seems that's the case.

She is so cute!

I have no idea who the character is, so I wonder if I should look her up on Wikipedia or see the movie first.

I'm trying to recall what Mantis was like in the Volume 2 of Surfer. I seem to remember her being different from the first 70's version

Yeah, I remember her that way too, but, we have that kind of crazy with Gamora lol

I'm loving her look . I hope she has a decent enough role in this.

She's my new bae .:crso:

Wouldn't most critics and the fanbase like her more because she's humorous and people mostly like funny characters?

So happy she seems to have a fun and unique personality other than the typical stoic, serious, emotionally tortured but bottled up badass most of the other superheroines have been characterized as.

I hope she's good enough to be a breakout fan favorite next to Baby Groot.

"If I touch someone"............I? Why the heck is Mantis referring herself as I? EPIC FAIL!!

In all seriousness, Pom looks great. Her eyes look enormous, like an anime character.
