Endgame Thor/God of Thunder - Chris Hemsworth

Yeah I think Thor is more likely to be taken seriously in GotG3 than in Thor 4. GotG has been more of a dramedy while Ragnarok was pretty much a pure comedy.

So I'm glad GotG is coming first, because it means Gunn might get rid of fat Thor, which I doubt Waititi would do on his own.

Waititi straight up wanted to include a flash back scene in Ragnarok of Thor being chubby as a child.

So I know he is just LOVING
Lebowski Thor
.

The issue isn't that Thor should be more powerful than Thanos, no one should be (including that Captain Marvel shouldn't shrug off a big blow by Thanos like it's nothing, especially after Thanos was the guy to get to break Cap's shield with pure force). ]
One of her powers is energy absorption, and she seemed to be getting a power boost at that moment because she was absorbing the Infinity gems.

Interesting thought. I'll have to check for signs of that on a rewatch, although I think that if that's the intent most people probably wouldn't pick up on it as that aspect of her hasn't been greatly established yet.

Just too bad that her filming schedule on Blindspot didn't allow her to do Thor: Ragnarok, IW or Endgame. She's basically the only main Asgardian character that didn't have any type of resolution the past few films.
Some of them got pretty dumb resolutions though that I could have done without. At least Hogun went down in style.

I think it's funny Hems b****ed about the wig to the point they gave him a short haircut in Ragnarok and IW, and then in Endgame they do that ^ to him :hehe:

I opened a new thread for Thor in the GOTG3 part of the forum.
I think after 2 weekends(2.2B at the box office) most people have seen the movie by now. And it's not a massive spoiler anyways.

Thor - God of Thunder

Hemsworth's facial experssion just kills me :funny:

Honestly I hope he goes back to the short hair.

Me too. I love short hair Thor but i dont mind long hair either. If and when he does return to earth, i hope he gets to interact with the new Avengers like Wasp and Antman. How cool would it be to have an Asgardian by their side? ;)

I think Thor may end up being underrated in this as most talks are focused on the beard and stomach but his story arc for this is really great as is Chris Hemsworth's performance.

As for the hair, I prefer long but just because that's how I know Thor the most in general

It's safe to talk about the film withiut using spoiler tags now that it's been about 2 weeks? I had a chance to speak to some friends of mine who had seen the film as well. Was surprised to hear that some of them had still enjoyed his take while others not as much (but they definitely did not hate it as much as I did.lol)

Though one of them had made a suggestion on what they thought would have been better for the character to have undergone in this film and it had just stuck with me since.

Basically they suggested that Thor should have just left Earth after failing to undo the snap. Afterwards he would have simply become an alcoholic gladiator in the galaxy, participating in intergalactic caged fights and drowning himself in booze and allowing several people to beat him up at times in order to mask his pain. More people would line themselves up to take on the guy that killed Thanos.

You could then follow all of that with Thor being the one to undo the snap but at cost of his arm which would have been replaced with a mechanical one for the final battle where he would also have been weakened by the snap thus explaining on why he was not at his prime when taking on Thanos again.

You would have still accomplished getting that tragic aspect for his character without making him into a useless fat joke instead.

Avengers: Endgame Writers Discuss Ending Thor’s Arc, And His Potential Future

He has suffered so much. He's lost family - his mom, dad, brother, newly-found sister that he had the murder himself, Asgard itself. And then lost to Thanos. He lost his eyeball. Killing him seemed gratuitous almost. And from Ragnarok on, he is such a joyful presence, to have him fairly well-adjusted and moving forward is just like candy. It's like you want to see more of it.
Think about the journey everyone's on, to be serious for a second. Steve goes from selflessness to self-interested, and Tony sort of does it generally in reverse. And what is Thor defined by in his first movie, right? It's ambition and obligation to Asgard and the crown, right? So what's that journey over five to seven movies, right? It's releasing that burden. It's giving that up and being the person he is supposed to be, not the one who he's meant to be.
We've given it a lot of thought, and I think a lot of it lines up, and partly, frankly, because Taika [Waititi] and Eric Pearson and Chris Hemsworth sort of reinvented him. There's a whole other delightful side to him that would be great to keep seeing.

I love Ragnarok but there are things I'm glad never made it in there. Like that potential flashback for instance. I just cringed when I read that Waititi was thinking about it.

Nah we had three movies with short haired Thor. I'm good.

Not a fan of short haired Thor personally. He's had long hair for decades in the comics. That to me is his signature look. I'm sure Cap fans were happy to see him don the red, white and blue again in his final appearance. And I was thrilled to see viking warrior Thor (even despite the gut). Seeing Super Hemsworth takes me out of the film a little.

And honestly it makes no sense from a plot perspective for him to cut it again since he didn't want it cut on Sakaar to begin with.

It's a joy personally to see how much Hemsworth has grown/improved as a performer. When superheroes are reduced continually to nothing more than costumed people who punch people and are powerful they cease to be interesting characters(hence why I never cared for the character or his first 2 films) and Thor in EG felt like an actual developing character. I've said this before but the negative reaction from some highlights how there are those who have either forgotten or genuinely don't realize that comedy, however 'inappropriately' broad, is as legit a method for a character study as drama is.

The idea of a god being depressed and anxious is inherently absurd on certain levels (Monty Pyhton-esque even) and the script and Chris ensure that it, IMO, turns out to be a serious, sad portrayal of the unlikely ways depression can manifest especially in men.

I still think his story was good, great even
it was the execution that was lacking for me
the "broad" comedy just got far too broad imo

had he not looked like Tim Allen in the Santa Clause, I would've loved Thor's role in this

I read J. Michael Straczynski's negative tweet regarding Lebowski Thor this morning.

Hemsworth is amazing and highly talented, he can play anything. I just rather wish that they had kept the character as Thor rather than -- apparently for lack of knowing how to handle him without being corny -- using him for comic relief and finally turning him into Volstagg.

But I thought I remembered him doing the exact same thing to Balder the Brave. But no, it was the great Walt Simonson who gave us an overweight Balder who lay down his sword while suffering from PTSD.
