Sequels Thor: Love and Thunder

The more I think about it, the more I love the title. It sounds very pulpy...and if Taika is going FURTHER into the Flash Gordon area, then I am digging it! I'm not sure where Jane fits into it all...Portman's character is almost universally disliked, and previous films have even kind of addressed that by shrugging her off. I'm in though!

But yeah...making PTSD, grief and weight gain a comedy thread in Endgame was kind of tone deaf.

One of the biggest issues I'm seeing with a lot people these days is the defence that something happening off screen means creative choices are justifiable. There are cases where filling in the blanks is something that you have to do, and cases where you need to see certain information. Development happening off screen is not development.
Valkyrie's development came on screen. In Ragnarok. She simply earned her position during the time jump.

This is like complaining that Luke Skywalker showed up a capable Jedi in RotJ, but that happened off screen, so it doesn't count. Jesus. :funny:

It sounds like a metal album title to me.

I wonder what Hemsworth will be doing in this film.

His character is officially pointless. It was bad enough I had to sit thru that fat Thor shtick and now he's passing things on to Jane Foster?

Man, I was all excited running thru all the releases today then I had to see this garbage. I'm basically out on this franchise. At least I got one really good movie in Ragnarok.

Which is strange because the Thor in the comics, who is every bit the warrior and wanderer that you're talking about, managed to be a competent King when he became King later on.

If anything, he isn't that much different from the way Jason Mamoa's Aquaman was portrayed and yet he came off as a competent King when the situation called for it.

Honestly, Chris's Thor could be a great King as well. It's just that the folks in charge don't want him to be a King and want Valkyrie to be the one in charge instead.

And seeing as how "love" is in the title, I'm guessing that a romantic plot will be at the forefront so I really don't know on how we can get a epic Thor adventure in this film (at the moment).

I had hoped that this film would rebuild Thor up but it feels like it may be more of a passing of the torch film for him.
I disagree with your overall opinion that Thor is a joke since Ragnarok but I agree with your sentiment that he should finally become a King. Aquaman did strike a good balance between a wandering warrior and King. If they keep Thor as a wandering warrior it basically means the character is forever doomed to be usurped or equaled by other characters. King Thor can be both a wandering warrior and leader.

A-freakin-men brother! I roll my eyes at it every time.

If he still appears in Guardians 3 I’m just thinking what powers he will have if Jane Foster is Thor.

How long does King Thor last in the comics?

You really do look for the worst possible outcome for everything. Love is in the title, so there can be no epic Thor adventure? Based on what exactly? :funny:

Well seeing as how what we got out of Thor in EG was almost equivalent towards the worst possible outcome for me personally, I can't say that I'm excited about his future.

I had hoped that Taika would try to rebuild him as a character in Thor 4 but between getting Jane Thor (A story line that featured Thor having to give up his name as well to Jane) and Valkyrie being cemented as the new ruler of Asgard, I honestly don't know what I should look forward to for the character right now.

Also, I really doubt that the love angle has anything to do with Thor and Jane since that ship has sailed which just leaves Valkyrie's love life left to be explored. Personally, I don't care about it (or Thor's past romance with Jane) enough in general to see it portrayed as one of the main arcs of the film.

GOTG 3 could very well end up taking place before the events of this film, similar to how GOTG 2 took place in 2014 even though the film came out in 2017.

Well if you are going to fatalistic about it, I don't imagine there is anything to be excited about. As again, you seem to only care about Thor being all powerful or ruling.

And yeah, considering Jane will be becoming Thor, I am betting pretty highly the love story is between the pair of them. Exploring the aspects of what worked, what didn't, and what happens when Jane is Thor's "equal".

How TF can a guy give up his name? It's not like it's a superhero name for him, it's his actual birthright. God I can't explain how much I loathe this concept.

I seriously hope Jane does not become Thor or wields the hammer even if that is in the comics.

I'd like to clarify that I have only thought of Thor as a joke when it concerns his portrayal in Endgame.

And yeah, if Thor is no longer tied to Asgard (as its King/Prince/Protector) or to Earth since he just prefers to wander around aimlessly, then where does he go from there as a character? There's nothing to build him up to anymore.

He just becomes that fun uncle that you see every Christmas who comes and goes when he pleases. It may be fun while he's around but there's no lasting impact once he leaves again.

Well this is what I recall happening in the comics. Nick Fury told Thor some hidden secret that apparently caused Thor to lose his ability in wielding his trademark hammer. Thor had attempted to regain his hammer from Jane afterwards but upon realizing that she was worthy and he wasn't any longer, he gave up his name and just went by Odinson for a while with Jane going by Thor: Goddess of Thunder.

I see. The argument that he shouldn't be a managerial King is lame. Organically, that is how the character should proceed. Marvel can't simply keep on repeating the same tropes and story line for the character.

Hate to break it to you but they pretty much confirmed that she will become the Jane-Thor from the comics in this film, which is probably one of the reasons why Natalie agreed to come back.

And if this film ends up following that arc from the comics faithfully, then Thor will have lost one more thing by the end of this film since he gave up his name to Jane after realizing that she was worthier than he was.

That’s great if it means we get a powered Thor during it.

Thor's journey towards becoming a King in the MCU is similar to the whole TV trope of the "Will they or not" game that main TV couples play on popular shows. The series will spend several time teasing the concept to get viewers invested and when it finally does happen, the producers will introduce some stupid plot line that will undo that development so that they can continue playing the "chase" game without realizing that people will eventually get sick of their gimmick.

Well it would be both ironic and tragic if Thor is better portrayed in someone else's film when compared to a movie that has his name in the title.

I think the story might be between infinity war and endgame bcoz Thor is with the guardians and guardians3 is coming after thor4.

It can also show us more about Thor's depression and dealings with Jane involved maybe..

Odinson is a pretty cool name at least.

The way they continue to treat this character is absolutely wretched. They keep taking from him to the point where he's becoming an empty void.
