I can see your point, but like you said I think they are just trying to appeal to the general audience. Johnny Depp is such a fan favorite that to me it makes total sense that they would put him on posters, etc. I personally welcome all the images of him as The Mad Hatter so far. Also, I think since the actress playing Alice, Mia Wasikowska is new and upcoming it wouldn't make sense to put her on the images and have no one recognize her.

I'd agree if it weren't one of the most well-known stories in literature. Mia is secondary to Alice so they don't have to lean so heavily on Depp. It's not like he looks like the most recognizable Hatter anyways.

How can you people be happy about the soundtrack? It's terrible!! I could never imagine freaking Avril Lavine or Tokyo Hotel playing throughout this movie, and frankly, it makes me lose a lot of interest. If it turns out to be just a soundtrack, with Elfman's score in the film, I'm game. but come on, selling out much? Ughhh. I don't know how I feel about this film. The CGI looks good, but it's distactingly fake looking in the trailers. Avatar got away with it bacause they probably spent more money with that CG but I feel this movie will suffer a bit from Star Wars prequel syndrome. I was really excited when they announced this, but it's quickly fallling into the "I don't really care" category. We'll see how it turns out...

He always has orchestrated music, even in Batman '89.

I understand that they're heavily advertising Depp to get people's butts in the seats and technically this is somewhat a sequel to the original story.

I'm starting to think that they should have dropped the "Alice in" and just called it Wonderland. The posters would instantly give away what the film is in case people heard the title and didn't know what the movie was about.
