Christ 120 million weekend :wow:
Dear god imagine the effect of 3d prices when the big gunners like Potter and Spider-man are going to be released.
I think it's safe to say that we're looking at new opening records being set.
and some people are still asking why are studios doing 3D movies.

the next time someone asks why all movies are in 3D i will ask him if he was born dumb or if he is just an idiot.studios realese movies for money. if 3D makes more money then this is the next logical stepp.

Alice doing 100 millions will not stop 3D movies. they will start doing more 3D movies.

my only fear is that since the cheap 3D still makes money and it costs less money that they will do only cheap 3D movies and will realese only 3D versions. so i am afraid that in 5 years the only way to watch a blockbuster in summer will be with bad 3D. and that would be a disaster.

you can all scream that it will be Cameron's fault. but its not since he spend a lot of time to make the 3D part of the movie. IMO

Now I'm wondering how Clash is gonna do.

For sure, just a matter of time!

I can't believe it made 41 million yesterday. I did not expect it to make this much money. Now with this success, you just know studios will be ordering all of their big movies in 3D. I wouldn't mind using 3D in films, it's just what makes me mad is that the studios are doing it wrong and know that the tickets more expensive which means more money.
Yep, I saw Avatar in 3D again today & compared it to the 3D in the Alice trailer. Bloody hell, I wouldn't want to be paying same price for those 2! Hope the Alice 3D has improved significantly from that level.

The 3D wasn't worth the extra ticket price, imo. Some scenes looked cool, but I felt that I would have enjoyed the film as much in 2D. And the actual film was missing the most effective 3D scene from the trailer (Cheshire Cat's face floating in the middle of the screen, coming towards the audience).
No way!! :cmad:

People will find out through WOM very quickly that 3D is not as important to watch Alice, unlike Avatar. The box office should follow a typical blockbuster pattern after this weekend. Are there a lot of 2D screens showing Alice as well?

I'd LOVE it if Clash did figures anywhere near this. Even close to $100m would be very nice! People might actually be a bit turned off 3D after Alice though if it's not at a good enough level.

I was okay. Not badly made or acted but it's missing something.

So this should lead to Burton doing Wizard of Oz..
Oh God no....Dorothy would be a teen aged dark and mysterious girl. Scarecrow would definitely be Johnny Depp (no if ands or buts) and the wicked witch would be his wife. And instead of the bright colors that you see through out oz you would see dark depressing colors & characters because this is a Tim Burton movie and he wants to put it through your head that hes still going through that emo/goth phase in his life.....and he also wants to be able to sell lots of cool shirts at hot topic :awesome:

I've always been a Tim burton Fan. And i have to admit i am disappointed by all the bad reviews.

This means Alice in Wonderland is his worst reviewed film since Planet of the Apes and Mars Attacks. :csad:

But i did like Mars Attacks... so... :woot:

yet to see this film but overall i'm getting that its just ok. visually i hear its amazing from an artist point of view but the 3D was wasted. i hope to see this film soon. i too am a big tim burton fan..so i bet i will enjoy it but im kinda skeptical :/

That may be the case NOW but back in their day Pee-wee's Big Adventure and Beetlejuice got pretty terrible reviews. It's only been in the last decade that things changed around and they were seen as the classics that they are. (I bet the same thing will happen with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland 20 years from now).

The 3D isn't even good, it's cheap arse 3D, not the Avatar stuff. I've only seen two 3D films in my life, Avatar and Alice, and there's no comparison between the two, Alice's 3D is crap. The problem is people are going in not knowing there's a difference

.

My local cinema is showing Alice in 3D 5 times in the day, only once in 2D. Cinema's are basically forcing us to choose 3D and we shouldn't stand for it.

i was afraid of that.

burtons worst movie (movie's' if you include planet of the crap) grosses the most money...

kevin smiths worst movie grosses the most money too....

wow..

I'm not too concerned about that in the long run. Studios want going to the theatre to remain a competitive tradition for years and decades to come. They want your overall experience to be a pleasant one. They are probably concerned about public skepticism over this new 3d. They want positive word of mouth on how cool the 3d looks.

In the short run they will probably try and convert a bunch of movies, but starting soon they will either shoot it in 3d or leave it in 2d. There isn't even enough 3d screens out there to handle more than one 3d movie a month anyways.

Just saw Alice last night. Okay movie. I give 2 out of 4 stars. The CGI at certain moments looked like 10 years behind the times. Characters didn't look like they belonged in the scene. I don't know if it was because of the lighting or what, but they looked inserted.

Overall the movie was still okay and entertaining though. Nothing amazing or spectacular.

Except more and more theaters are going to convert to 3D/Imax to accomodate more than one film and if the 3D trend ends, we'll be stuck with higher ticket prices so they can pay for those huge screens 3D or not.

Not that tickets weren't going higher anyways, but it's going to create an artificial bottom.

the masses wont notice a bug difference between Alice 3D and Avatar's 3D. :csad:

Yeah, it's like they are the disciples of George Lucas... :hehe:

That's what I've heard & what I thought from the trailer which I've seen 3 times in 3D. Still will probably watch it in 2D though.

Yeah this is a bit of an unfair ratio for a film that has only been converted rather than filmed in 3D. Agreed, better to wait it out for 2D for these conversion hack jobs. I'm no fan of the Spider-man reboot idea but at least that guy is putting some work in (& going to JC for advice on how to use the 3D properly) rather than throwing it in as an afterthought.

true, but it will effect their overall enjoyment that they take away from the experience. You go into the theatre and the lights dim. You buttery popcorn. Super amazing sound. The screen tells you to turn off your cellphones. You put on your glasses.

The 3d effect when done properly mostly just adds a subtle realism that increases how immersed you feel in what's going on. When your really into the movie you forget it's in 3d. You get used to it. But it's still working on you and impacting you just like the music does.

Like in Avatar it helped add to the feeling that this was all really real and happening around you.

Ive never seen a movie I want to see with so many hot/cold reviews. It seems like you either love it or you dont. But still have to see it myself.

To put things into perspective.
Avatar had a respectable opening but afterwards WOM spread pretty fast. With Alice In Wonderland running ahead it's due
1) marketing. AIW was marketed far more heavily then Avatar. Hell we gt the trailers for AIW 3 months ahead. With Avatar the final trailer was released a month before the opening
2) star power . AIW has an all star cast with Depp.
3) The material itself. AIW is a known property and it aimed at parents & kids.

So naturally AIW will have a bigger opening in then Avatar. The question is how much it'll drop in the subsequent weekends

In addition a huge portion of the country got hit will a horrible snow storm on Avatar's opening weekend. It's second week was bigger than it's first week. No way that's happening with Alice in Wonderland. Avatar's success was WOM. I don't see that same WOM happening from this movie, because it's only an okay so so descent movie with cheap 3D.

3/10 Did not enjoy it one bit. Horrible 3D, horrible CGI, boring story, not very imaginative

for those who have seen the movie, was there by any chance a preview of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, which they plan to re-release next year in 3d??
