Tim Story - What title do you want?

Maybe in "fanboyish" Hirru meant that the regular moviegoing audience won't know who the Silver Surfer is, or that he is the Herald, and therefore it would only appeal to those that know the comic.

I'm sticking with Fantastic Four II myself, or Doomsday because they will know where that title is coming from. The Herald to many of the people will be the newspaper they read every morning.

Annihilus is the name of one of the FF's villains, so I don't think that would be a good chocie.

I'm partial to Fantastic Four: Power Cosmic but unless they push that Doom is trying to steal the Power Cosmic from SS in the trailer, I doubt anyone will understand what the title is about.

where is chili town?

Ever see the "Chili cookoff" episode of the Simpsons, where Homer eats the tainted peppers and has a trippy vision? When he goes to Chief Wiggum's booth for seconds (after drinking a candle to coat his mouth with wax) the chief says "Well, well! If it isn't the Pope of Chili Town!"

The thing is sometimes i think we worry to much about the GA as if everyone out there is some spoon fed idiot that can't get anything that isn't basic or is Sci Fi driven and need everything spelt out for them,if this were the case Star Wars and The Matrix would not have been hits

Don't put words in my mouth, Kel. I never said you were an idiot. As for google'ing Herald, instead they should use a dictionary. If they don't know what a herald is then, yes, they are idiots.

Would you prefer the word "Harbinger"? Could they google that?

I don't see that title as them really not understanding what it is persay, but not really caring to find out what it is from the simple fact that something that sounds like a newspaper is somewhat...........boring.

Doomsday on the other hand, brings vision of blood, gore, Doom, ya know those things that people really love to see.......:)

And being one of those in the "general audience" I tend to think of them often...

I like Doomsday as a title. Just not when Doom is a bit player in this film. The emphasis seems to be on The Surfer. When Doom has a meatier part (of course I don't know if he does I'm just guessing) then call it Doomsday.

I think the people know what the heck Herald means.

Yeah they do, its that little angel with the trumpet.....

I just hope they don't google it....:D

That seems to suggest they are quite simple minded that they don't look past a title plus there will be plenty to see to sell the movie so that we can avoid DTV type titles,In truth though i was talking overall about the constant worry that making anything to Sci Fi will alienate the audience so best keep it simple and more believeable

No, I don't see them simple minded at all...understanding what a herald is, and putting that knowledge to the F4 comics and realizing what the SS is....just seems alot for people to get within a few seconds of seeing the title.....which is kind of what you want a title to do, quickly give them a glimpse as to what the movie is about. My saying this, doesn't mean I think they are idiots, simple-minded or whatever.....it means they have other things to do rather than try and figure out what herald the movie is talking about....

Who knows?....I could be totally wrong.....not the first, second, or third time thats for sure......

I get the distinct feeling I'm wasting my time here, because in the end....they are going to call it what they want...

By simple minded i was referring to the fact they would dismiss it as boring b/c they didn;t immediately understand it especially since the F4's name that they do know is there with it
Truthfully though i wasn't getting into the debate you and Frankie were having i was taking the concept of "don't dumb it down" as it applies to the Sci Fi elements of the story that some believe can't be translated,i was just saying the audience IMO can get into fresh ideas in this genre like they proved when SW and Matrix became Smashes

It seems that Doom is not a "bit part" as Tim Story devoted nearly his entire last blog entry to the improvements of Doom....

Well, then my post was not the one to quote to make that point....because I have never said they needed to "dumb anything down"...I'm the one that wants a more intricate development of characters......no dumbing down here....

If you look back i didn;t quote you or mention the title,i just made a stand alone post about dumbing down sci fi referring more to Frankies use of that term but taking it in another direction to pertain to the whole movie
Sorry if you thought i was getting after your debate with Frankie

Sorry, my mistake....I took it as thats what you were talking about......I guess the title of the thread threw me off....:)

If they want to know what the word Herald means. They can either pick up a dictionary or go to the 2nd grade. Even if they don't the idea of something being called The Herald! is still a mysterious thing, luckily no one is as ******ed as...certain people are making them out to be.
