The reason "The First Avenger" was added to Cap title in the first place was because of overseas distributors who didn't want to throw "Captain America" in countries that hate America's guts. Luckily only 3 countries decided to exercise that right.

You have to think they will do it a second time around as well.

So what type of subtitles do you think can be used for upcoming sequels?

I assumed the reason "First Avenger" was added was to tie it into the Avengers and get the word into our public consciousness. It's pretty hard to un-Americanize a movie about Captain America for those international markets.

Yeah, "The First Avenger" was added to all the releases, including U.S., long before the minor controversy with Russia and China or whoever. The subtitle was there just for Avengers tie-in purposes.

In any event, if they add a tag to Cap 2, "Super Soldier" seems a safe bet (that's the one they use on the video game, too). Or maybe "Sentinel of Liberty" or some such.

Your crazy to think they just added it to get word out for Avengers and not let other countries have a out clause for the title of the movie.

If they needed to add "Avenger" to the title of Cap movie to get the hype started for The Avengers, then they should just fire their marketing department right now.

It was there for one reason and one reason only, so in countries that hate America, didn't have to put America in its title.

Okay, go ahead and keep your xenophobic paranoid fantasies, then. :whatever:

The truth is that "The First Avenger" was added to the title way back in May 2008, and had *everything* to do with the Avengers film project. News that Russia and two other countries didn't want to use the Captain America title only came out last month, in June 2011.

Well the movie title of the first film should have been just "Captain America" and Captain America isn't really the first member of the Avengers.

Agreed.
But us fanboys already had that discussion three years ago when they tacked "The First Avenger" onto the title. :word:

The First Avenger Rises

Captain Americs: Hydra Strikes Back
Captain America: Return of the Avenger
Captain America: The Red Menace
Captain America: Attack of the Invaders
Captain America: Revenge of the Hydra

Sentinel of Liberty is frequent nickname and subtitle consistent with the comics. It is basically Cap's equivalent to Man of Steel.

Agreed. They even used it for Cap's movie tie-in game for Android.

Sentinel of Liberty would be a much more appropriate movie subtitle than THE FIRST AVENGER. But I hope there is not some sort of stupid conflict because the videogame already used it.

Sentinel of Liberty sounds better than Sentinel of Freedom.

X-Men could have a similar title too. X-Men: Sentinel of Trask. ;)

Captain America in The MAGICAL MYSTERY MODOK!!!

I don't like the 'Sentinel of Liberty' simply because I've never heard it before and it says nothing of plot, but it's still a step up from TFA.
