Because there is more to acting than speaking. You need a great actor to convey emotions etc with eyes and body language.

Why do you think they got Hugo Weaving for V for Vendetta?

Exactly. You need someone who can deliver on all fronts, not just one. Especially when you're dealing with a villain of this caliber.

Granted; but it's becoming increasingly hard to believe that Marvel is saving a "big reveal" for Thanos' actor. The studio had no problem announcing the casting of mega-marquee like Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Benny Del Toro, Ben Kingsley, Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Lee Jones, Michael Douglas, James Spader, Mickey Rourke, Jeff Bridges, Gwyn Paltrow, Natalie Portman, and I'm sure I'm missing a lot of others. And some of those are "just" voice actors. The "short list" for actors who are a much bigger :wow::wow::wow: than any and all of those is short, indeed.

Increasingly hard to believe they're building hype up for the most notorious villain in the entire MCU? On what planet?

He's been a mystery ever since his face showed up smirking in the credits of The Avengers. Marvel likes it that way.

Obviously its gonna be a pretty big name. Someone like Freddie Prinze Jr.

But seriously, though: who's bigger than those names above? Hell, they could even say De Niro's playing him, and it wouldn't be a bigger scoop than Redford or Close or Michael Douglas or any of the rest of them. It'd be just another "Marvel's done it again! :yay:" And then everyone would wonder why they waited so long to announce it.

Well, Zac Efron confirms that he's in talks with Marvel about something, so that's probably our answer. :cwink:

Debatable.

It's not as much height as it is bulk. While he has been drawn as Hulk-sized on occasion, he traditionally is not much taller than Cap:

As you can see, however, he's far too bulky for any actor to look like without CGI, so motion capture is really the best choice.

Thanos - as shown here - could easily be an actor in make-up and costume...

After seeing Neighbors i'm totally open to the idea of Zac Efron being in the MCU. Obviously not as Thanos.

Be interesting to imagine who he would play though. He could actually be a villain. Definitely has a darker side in Neighbors.

My "seriously, though" votes for Zac, if that particular ship ever sails, would be as Danny Rand, Nova, or Bullseye. And I'm thinking Bullseye might be right on target. :o

No to Perlman. I want a genuine A-Lister for this and not a guy who slums it in Asylum films for extra cash.

Bullseye? Interesting. Very interesting. I could totally see that actually.

But i doubt if Marvel taps him up it will be for a tv show.

But Nova is a great shout too.

Agreed. I like Perlman a lot. Great character actor. But like you say, Thanos needs to be a A-Lister.

Yeah. Perlman would just be so... underwhelming. I like him, but he's been in so many crappy movies (and has been terrible in at least a few of them) that it would be a huge letdown to find out he was playing Thanos. Plus, he's already played such a visually similar character in Hellboy that it would feel like lazy casting, as if Kevin Feige and James Gunn were just sitting around one day and were like, "Who is an actor that doesn't mind wearing prosthetics? Hey, how about that guy from Hellboy?"

Lazy casting or not, he has the physical features, he has the voice, and I doubt very seriously y'all are gonna get the A lister you want. I could be wrong, but we'll see.

It's not impossible, but look at his muscles compared to Cap's in the last panel. You'd have to get an actor who's twice as jacked as Evans or Hemsworth are to achieve the desired effect, which is a difficult task unless you get a bodybuilder (not a good idea). Otherwise, the suit would need a lot of padding. CGI seems like the simplest choice for me, if you want a Thanos who looks bulky and strong and yet not quite Hulk-sized.

Marvel has been incredibly intelligent about the way they've conducted business. I can assure you that regardless of who is cast as Thanos, it will NOT be Ron Perlman.

I love Ron, I've been a big fan for years, but he does not have the acting ability nor the presence to convincingly portray Thanos.

Marvel is far, far too smart for that. They aren't going to go with a mediocre choice for an A-lister of a villain. Especially when The Avengers 3 has the potential to be one of the biggest films of all time. Hell no is Ron Perlman gonna be anywhere it, and damn sure not as Thanos. :o

Too bad Gregor Clegane (from Game of Thrones) isn't a well-known thespian. The guy is gigantic.

Sure - they do that all the time - its called a muscle suit - CGI is the simplest choice for dealing with it later and from what I've been reading that seems to be the way they have gone - just don't understand why they chose the much more expensive digital route when they already had an excellent Thanos in the Avengers. I am sure it will look fine, just curious choice...
