Guardians of the Galaxy To Infinity and Beyond: The Thanos Thread

Here's the thing, though. It's been established in The Dark World that the Infinity Gems are not in the gauntlet, given that the Tesseract and the Aether are separate from it. Additionally, Sif said something about being dangerous to keep two gems together, and since the Tesseract is already on Asgard, it's safe to assume the gauntlet we saw in Odin's vault doesn't have any real Infinity Gem.

So, the Infinity Gauntlet from the first Thor movie is probably only just a replica or, most likely, a background easter egg that won't hold any value in the future. It wouldn't make sense for Thanos to barge in and take something that isn't the real deal.

No.

When Sif and Volstagg met up with The Collector, they mentioned keeping two "stones" in the same place is not safe. They did not say "gems".

It's pretty clear at this point that the stones are a way of retconning why we saw the Gauntlet with the stones in tact in the first Thor movie. The stones are required to power up the gems, which in turn power up the glove.

Has it been confirmed that the Gauntlet in Thor is anything more then an Easter egg?

Marvel knows it's plan in regards to the Infinity Gauntlet. I, like many other users, believe the power was taken from the gems and placed into the stones. So the Infinity Gauntlet in Thor is very much the real deal.

This is, in my opinion, the most important role in the MCU outside of the big four avengers. Thanos is going to serve as the "end boss" for the Downey era of Marvel Studios. He needs to be an actor who can stand toe to toe with the star-studded, academy award caliber line-up of villains that we've already seen. I'm anxious to see who they have hired.

Indeed, I am as well. This is Thanos' big introduction to a much larger audience so I want to see him be every bit the badass he's always been. Certainly someone who can grab your attention every time the character hits the screen & can be threatening enough to be unpredictably scary.

Sean Bean would be fitting as Thanos loves death, and Sean Bean is always dying, haha.

I'm still hoping for Ron Perlman. He has a good voice, and since Thanos will be mostly CGI anyway that's very important.

WIN. :woot:

Seriously though, Bean could be great as Thanos. Really, a lot of GOT cast members could fit right into the Marvel universe. Mark Addy should play Galactus because he looks like he could eat a planet.

Haha :)
Sean Bean would be a cool choice, though I think he'd have to change his voice a bit. I think it would be a bit strange with his accent, but that's just me. I always imagined him to have a deep, gravelly voice; Something like Kevin Grevioux, just not THAT deep, haha.

Yeah, more than likely whoever they cast will have his voice altered at least a little.

Yeah, unless that actor who has been cast has a distinctive voice already. I see a lot of people asking for Damion Poiter to play him again; I haven't really seen anything that really stands him out to play Thanos.

Me either, I'd rather they have someone cast who actually does stand out. Doesn't have to be someone known, just someone really good.

Yeah, seriously... Poiter's performance as Thanos consisted of him standing up and smiling a little.

It won't be hard for a new actor to top that.

Definitely not. Poiter's appearance did exactly what it needed to do...build anticipation. Now it's time for someone else to step in & deliver the rest of what's required.

I agree with both of you. I suspect the actor who has been cast is feeling a lot of pressure considering the significance of his role. Really can't wait to find out who's playing him.

The good thing is it's not really bad pressure, though. It's pressure that an actor should be able to take & use to really make sure they stand out in said role.

I'm just hoping Thanos can be as memorable as villains like the Joker, Bane, Loki, etc. Actually, he needs to be MORE memorable than them since he operates on a much bigger playing field.

Yeah, I see what you mean.

I agree, I'm interested to see how this will play into The Avengers 3. I have a feeling his part in the Guardians of the Galaxy won't be big, but I think it will be memorable and have an impact on the universe as a whole.

The only person that I ever saw playing the part of Thanos, both in size and voice was Michael Duncan Clarke. Sadly, he passed away.

I think you mean Michael Clarke Duncan. And as much as I love the man, I don't think he'd be the right guy for this character.

Bryan Cranston would be a great choice, a great actor currently at the top of his game, and with his extensive past as a voice actor he could definitely create the right voice for Thanos.

Yeah, I don't really think MCD would have been the right fit for Thanos. Great actor though. RIP.

As for Cranston... that's an interesting suggestion, though I'm still holding out hope he'll eventually play Jim Gordon.

I think Jim Gordon would be an awesome character for him to play. Though, honestly, since Thanos will be done via motion capture I could totally buy Cranston in the role. He's a very versatile actor & I think he could pull it off no problem.
