Guardians of the Galaxy To Infinity and Beyond: The Thanos Thread

Spoilers, but an early review of a (partial) rough draft of the movie is currently making the rounds at Latino Review. Read at your own risk, but you might be happy to hear what they have to say about Death. :word:

While visiting Thanos' flying throne rock, Ronan and Nebula have harsh words for the Mad Titan's right hand man, The Other, after he lectures them about showing respect for his master (things don't turn out well for one of them). This scene is the only one where Thanos is present (he pops up again later, but only on a screen/hologram for a few seconds). The Avatar of Death assures Ronan the plan is still in place and that Xandar is toast if he returns with the object.
I took that to mean that the anonymous reviewer was...
...referring to Thanos the "Avatar of Death". I don't think the anthropomorphic "Death" would be issuing orders to Ronan.

Could be, but that would just be the reviewer being all illiterate 'n' stuff. The "Avatar of Death" isn't *giving* orders there, s/he is just reassuring Ronan that the original deal with Thanos is still in play. In other words, I took it to mean that Death was there alongside The Other as a henchie/buddy of Thanos. Which is exactly what we've always seen of Thanos' throne entourage in Infinity Gauntlet, except "The Other" subs for comic-book Mephisto.

Dr. Doom has succeeded in actually taking Galactus' powers...one feat Thanos has not accomplished as far as I'm aware.

Thanos weaponized Galactus into a universal extinction level event bomb in Annihilation.

And Thanos was referred to the Avatar of Death in Thanos Imperative.

No, Thanos is known as the Avatar of Death in many runs....

Since he does Death's bidding and all

Magus/Warlock = Avatar of Life
Thanos = Avatar of Death

Actually the cancerverse Mar-vell was Avatar of Life

Isn't Mar-Vell the Avatar of Life in the Cancerverse, where the Avatar of Death is dead? And in our universe, Thanos is the Avatar of Death and Warlock is the Avatar of Life.

Yea Lord Mar-Vell was the Avatar of Life. He killed Death so life grew unchecked in the Cancerverse. Thanos, as the Avatar of Death from the 616 brought death back to them!

That's awesome, thanks for sharing! :woot:

Galactus' powers are insignificant compared to outright omnipotence, which Thanos has taken with his prep time. Twice, even.

Doom did steal Beyonder's powers though. And the Beyonder's power makes even the IG look like nothing more a fancy trinket.

With the HotU, perhaps Thanos would stand a chance. I doubt it though....

Thanos with the Heart Of The Universe could defeat the Beyonder easily. Pre-retcon Beyonder is only below the The One Above All in power, but the HotU essentially makes Thanos the One Above All.

Wait... there is something called the Cancerverse? What the hell is that?

It's basically a Lovecraftian universe where there is all kinds of "Elder Gods" and Eldritch Abominations. I think they were called Many Angled Ones in that story.

I'm wondering if we will ever see Uatu in these flicks at some point, kinda off topic. There is a crazy fan theory that the Stan Lee cameos in all the films have actually been the Watcher in disguise. :oldrazz:

I would love if that is ever revealed/confirmed to be true.

Thanos recks it in the movie. i thought his scene would have been longer...but still good. one thing i can say is that they got his size and look SPOT ON :wow:

this is as spot on as i could find. [blackout]the armor is more of a bland gold and his eyes are a dark purple. the scene when he gets mad u can see sort of a cosmic smoke coming from his eyes. marvel nailed his look and size, there are only 2 scenes. one with ronan and nebula(poor nebula) AND another where he tricks the collector into giving him the stone from the post credit scene of thor 2. you see lady death for maybe 2 secs and he tells her he wants to spend an eternity with her. (this fool is cazy) from his dialogue u can tell he is VERY cunning, sinister, and evil. his plan to win over death shows how evilhearted and cruel he is. the whole movie is one master trap from thanos. lol my wife could not stop talking about how scary his smile was. he does have the glove but did not put to 2 stones [/blackout][blackout]he collected in it[/blackout].

Wow, all that stuff reads like a greatest hits collection of the Mad Titan. I can't stand it :hubba

Well, it seems like it'll be very easy to see (based on what we've heard so far about those that have seen early premiers of the film) on why even Loki fears Thanos so much.

More from josharena:

Ronan and nebula visits thanos in space on sorta what looked like the area in the avengers. Ronan complies with thanos (thanos has the kree empire under threat) so he really has no other choice. And nebula smarts off to thanos and gets obliterated by thanos...and then brought back by lady death..thanos tells her to not ever smart of him again for the next time she will not be brought back
(Nebula is in major pain doing this process.

this finally seems to be a first look at Thanos (on the left)

I wonder what type of music was created for the Thanos scenes?

I've always imagined him having a Vince DiCola 'Unicron Medley' type-theme when he's floating around on that throne. :hehe:

"Look! It's Uni... I mean Thanos!"
