American Splendor, History Of Violence and Ghost World...In addition to Sin City.

I'll take Snickers, please.

No, those 3 films are based on graphic novels nobody reads...

Wait a second...so you are now qualifying what is a comic book film based on the books popularity???

In that case, Blade didnt even have his own book...therefore Blade isnt a comic book movie.

That is the most idiotic argument ever.

It wasn't sold as one if I remember correctly.

Okay, so we are now on record...weyseed believes that Blade, American Splendor, Ghost World and History Of Violence are NOT comic book movies.

Yes, he is claiming this.

I'm sorry, but you just lost all credibility....unles you want to admit that...YES those are comic book films.

Well the people here are a lot smarter than you might want to think they are. So I'm confident they know where I'm coming from by saying blade wasn't really advertised as a comicbook film. This is just the way I saw it back when it was released. It's probably because it wouldn't have mattered since blade's not as much of a mainstream comic book character. The same is true of all the comic films you've pointed out in your smug fashion.

common sense also says that all are comic book films. However, you can't easily dismiss whether they were percieved to be comic book films in the same way as superman and spidey which they obviously weren't. The closest would be sincity since it has more similar sci-fi elements in its story.

You asked a direct question...what comic books have been turned into films that were done right the first time.

You followed that up with Blade, History Of violence and Ghost World arent really comic books that have been turned into films.

So you are now saying that what makes a film a comic book adaptation is the MARKETING??? As if the fact that it was, in fact, a comic book doesnt matter???

Defend that stance...movie marketing over an actual comic book.

What?

I'm just going to ask you to have some perspective. We're at superhero hype, a site dedicated to superheros from comic books and other media.

Most here probably haven't even seen ghostworld. I know I haven't.

Your question was name 1 comic book movie that got it right...I named several...and you followed it up with "no one reads those books so they dont count as comics"

You even claim that Blade isnt a comic book movie...

Im aware that we are at Superhero Hype...and I ask YOU to have some perspective...comic books are a vast medium...superheroes are just one genre in this medium...to just claim that nothing but superheroes can be counted as actual comic books is absurd. Blade is technically a superhero, but he doesnt count either to you because to you all that matters is fame...

All flash, no substance...and absolutely lacking in sense...much like Ghost Rider

Toby...so you go to a comic book film not caring if it has good acting, directing or an even remotely decent script? As long as you see good FX then youre happy?
Nope. Superman Returns has good FX but I was not happy about it.

No offense, but youre the reason we got Batman And Robin
LOL. I'm not the one who made the Batman and Robin movie though.

I really care about acting, directing and even the scrip. Its just that I only care less about them than the special effects. Its the focus in this kind of movies. Would you be happy if Spider-Man had oscar level acting, dialogues and directing but with sfx that will make you puke?

He died.

The thing about this movie is that it's done in a very old school way and you have to be smart to figure out the meaning behind some scenes and dialogue because some of it's ambiguous, other times clever. It's a well written film, that's for sure.

Are you ****ing ******ed? A well written film? Do you even know what a well written film is? Do you know what writing is? By your rational if a film went through it's entirety with every line being exposition that would be PERFECT. This sentence perfectly shows your ignorance to the subject matter. You truly need to look up the meaning of the word "clever" also, I am racking my brain in trying to find one scene, one shot, of cleverness in that film. Was it the absolutely mindless explanation of character's emotions that really did it for you? Or was it the ONE-LINE "backstory" for the villains?

Its the kind of film that needs to be seen more than once to truly get all the little connections between lines and visuals in the film.

You are the reason they make films like Blade 2 and 3 and Elektra.

Like ghost rider pointing. It's what he did even before he became the ghost rider. The gesture of course as far as body language is concerned can be compared to the pointing of a gun, showing fearless determination to defeat an opponent or obstacle. Throughout the film ghostrider uses the pointing to intimidate his foes and as a sign that he's deciding their fate similar to Caesar's thumbs up or down in the Gladiator arena...

Tell me this is a joke. The blatant physical posing of the title character is the only way they can relate Johnny Blaze and the Ghost Rider characters. It has nothing to do with display of character and has everything to do with poor direction and eve poorer acting on Cage's part. To even hint that this painfully obvious and hackneyed attempt to bridge egos is anything but is truly ignorant.

damn good stuff.

The transformation scene made me have a geekasm.

wow. Somebody thinks a lot of their opinion.

Yeah, and so does Weyseed. No need to force your's on his and call him a ******. You act like this movie raped your mother and molested your children. It's not that bad. Calm down.

Yeah, BRUTAL.
You are seriously going beast mode on the guy for no reason.
He loves Ghost Rider, leave it at that.

No I ASKED him if he was ******ed... and yeah after this film was over I felt cheated and taken and wanted my money back. So in my opinion it WAS "that bad".

I happen to like the dynamics behind film making and can actually distinguish when they are present. I withhold the right to call out anybody who makes a claim like that. I'm not picking a fight I'm expressing an opinion...

I want the total package...but for arguments sake, I still watch the original Superman and am not bothered by the lousy FX.

I believe that comic books are just as valid of a medium as movies, tv or novels. It is very cool to see these comics come to life, but at the heart of it is my desire that comic books become viewed as the incredible art form that it is. Movies like Ghost Rider hurt the credibility of the medium. I want people to see a comic shop and think "I've never been in there, but I loved American Splendor, Ghost World, Sin City, History Of Violence and Batman Begins...maybe I'll go in there and check it out". I do not want people to think "Remember how goofy and fun it was to eat popcorn and watch that silly movie about the gyuy with the flaming head? Can you imagine that the geeks in there actually buy books about him every month?" We have reached a point in time and quality where actual real world credibility is within our grasp. The biggest upside to this will be that creators will benefit with a huge financial windfall if the 98% or so of Americans who dont read comics would start. With each "flash and no substance" movie that is released, the cause is set back. Comics deserve the very best in special effects as well as scripting, acting and directing...and thats because our concepts are better than anything Hollywood could ever create.

Yes but you're going off on him on what he thought was clever and good writing. Those are opinion based. I don't see a manual out there for what is clever or enjoyable in movies or any other medium for that matter.

The word "clever" may be relative to the user, however to deem the writing as "clever" is an observation, an observation I happen to disagree with. I see no rebuttal from the poster who made the claim, only from throngs of others who are out to make claims they can't back up with actual evidence. So are you in here to abide by the thread topic or defend someone else's opinion because you can't articulate your own?

Well, in life, you can't always have everything.

I also believe that. That's why its a bonus for me if the comic based film is good all in all(SFX, acting, directing, action sequence, plot, script....etc). Maybe I'm just lowering by expectations for GR coz it's new and there are ways to improve it in a sequel. But I can't deny the fact that I really enjoyed Johnny's initial metamorphosis, the bike, the penance stare, the demons of the contract of san venganza, Sam Elliot's flaming horse, the vertical bike ride, motorcycle stunt, the pathetic interview by Roxanne, Nicola drinking jelly beans in a martini glass, Fonda's potrayal of Mephisto and more. I would love an improved sequel. But I have to be honest on how I felt.

thats cool that you liked it. I actually will probably watch this movie several times for its unintentional comedic value...but there is a bigger picture to look at here...

Comic book movies are not singular entities as they really should be...Hollywood throws everything into genres. A teen horror does well? lets give them 50 more...when one or two bomb we'll stop making them! Theres a reason why warner Brothers thinks the Watchmen movie should be like Fantastic Four...they dont see how any comic book is different from the rest. I'm glad that ghost Rider is a hit beause it will spark other studios to get to work on the properties they have licensed, but froma quality standpoint that means that other movies will be following in Ghost Riders footsteps. Comics are for children, we can make it dumb, and goofy, throw in one liners and not bother giving the bad guys any story or personality and thats okay! It hurts the entire spectrum of comic movies is what Im saying.

I leave for a few days, come back, and this thread is still full of hostile arguments.

I do agree. After all, movie makers should subject themselves to a higher standard of film making other than a higher paycheck. If not then we will see something like the Batman and Robin movie again.
