I believe that comic books are just as valid of a medium as movies, tv or novels. It is very cool to see these comics come to life, but at the heart of it is my desire that comic books become viewed as the incredible art form that it is. Movies like Ghost Rider hurt the credibility of the medium. I want people to see a comic shop and think "I've never been in there, but I loved American Splendor, Ghost World, Sin City, History Of Violence and Batman Begins...maybe I'll go in there and check it out". I do not want people to think "Remember how goofy and fun it was to eat popcorn and watch that silly movie about the gyuy with the flaming head? Can you imagine that the geeks in there actually buy books about him every month?" We have reached a point in time and quality where actual real world credibility is within our grasp. The biggest upside to this will be that creators will benefit with a huge financial windfall if the 98% or so of Americans who dont read comics would start. With each "flash and no substance" movie that is released, the cause is set back. Comics deserve the very best in special effects as well as scripting, acting and directing...and thats because our concepts are better than anything Hollywood could ever create.
