With "The Odyssey" and a new "Spider-Man" film, next summer looks set to be the summer of Tom Holland -- and the famously boyish and ebullient star can hardly contain his excitement.

Just days before Holland spoke to AFP, photos circulated of him shooting an action sequence for "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in Glasgow, with the Scottish city standing in for New York.

For Holland, donning the Spidey suit for his seventh overall Marvel movie, it still "feels like the first time."

"Yesterday, I was on top of a tank driving down the high street in Glasgow, in front of thousands of fans, and it was awesome," he said.

"It was so incredible, it was exciting, and exhilarating, and it felt fresh."

The film is due out late July, just two weeks after "The Odyssey."

For now, Holland is excited to keep imbuing his Spider-Man with that youthful vigor, which "really is just who I am -- it's kind of like a heightened version of myself."

"It's very important to never lose that eagerness to play," he says.

I don't know about the script of The Odyssey, but the original poem by Homer (alongside the Iliad) is one of the most precious pieces of history on earth and a must-read. If you get across a copy of Robert Fagles' translation, or any other translations for that matter, you should jump on it without hesitation, epic read.

When asked about this, he said: “I think with anything, it's all about what's in front of you, and right now what's in front of us is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and focusing on making that movie worthy of the last film.

“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that's been my driving force in these pitch meetings.

“I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it's really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”

Whilst The Impossible star was excited by what they have coming in the newest film, he added: “In terms of my future in the character beyond this film, I don't know the answer to that.”
