Tom Hooper to take on Les Miserables

I don't know about "redefining" but Anne's version certainly sounds emotional.

Which, considering her situation, sounds more appropriate for a film than in a theater where she's usually singing to be heard in the rafters. I don't think it's exactly redefined either.

It's amazing that part of a trailer that's clearly a bootleg of a bootleg and filmed from what looks like someone's camera phone is flying around on sites like an officially released trailer.

Sounds like certain gossipmonger just wanted to spew some nastiness in Anne Hathaway's direction.

I didn't lie..

Her I Dreamed A Dream is absolutely dreadful, like everything else she croaks out.

Anne will be fabulous.

I'm not even that big of a fan, and I understand she's not the best singer in the world, but to say she cannot sing worth a rip is absolutely ridiculous.

And elevating one person singing a rendition of a well known song by trashing another is just low.

Why can't both be good?

Susan has a voice there.. somewhere.. buried underneath her terrible lack of breath control, her limited range, and her inability to stay on pitch.

I donno, it's always bugged me that HER "version" is what the general public remember when they think of the song. But, that's nether here nor there.

You're right. It's all about person preference. And in reality we're all allowed to like what we like. And at least more people are familiar with the song thanks to Boyle. :)

I'm okay with Susan Boyle, but I will lose my **** when people ask why "Susan Boyle's song" is in the Les Miz movie.

One of my friends saw A Little Night Music the last time it was on Broadway and when "Send in the Clowns" started, a woman sitting next to her asked "Oh, is that from this?"

I don't mind Susan Boyle (I only really know her from the Britain's Got Talent thing), but after that performance went viral it definitely renewed an interest in Les Miz:

Who Is Making Money Off Of Susan Boyle? Les Miserables

We already know that neither YouTube nor Fremantle Media is cashing in on Susan Boyle's YouTube success, but the singing sensation is helping boost revenues for Les Miserables.

The original London cast recording of "I Dreamed A Dream" is generating some significant sales on iTunes, finally cracking the top 100 this week. The song's currently at No. 93. It's doing even better in Canada, where the song's the 79th best-seller on that country's iTunes store.

And the full soundtrack to the London performance of the musical is doing even better: It's the 45th most downloaded album on iTunes and it's flying off the shelves at Canadian HMV stores

Plus ticket sales for an upcoming production of Les Miz in Vancouver have tripled over the past few days.

We're glad Les Miserables is making money off of Susan Boyle's performance. Those street urchins could use the cash.

And another:

Singing sensation Susan Boyle's performance brings new life to "Les Mis"

World Wide Web sensation Susan Boyle is making a name for herself — and a lot of cash for Apple's iTunes and record labels holding the rights to any recording of the musical "Les Miserables."

Boyle wowed the world — even "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell (aka Simon Scowl) — with her rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream." A video of Boyle's April 11 performance on "Britain's Got Talent" — in which Cowell is also a judge — has become a virtual overnight sensation as the video has been shared via Facebook, Twitter and TV news shows, including NBC's "Today" show and "Nightly News."

And the world has fallen in love with the 47-year-old Boyle, an unemployed, unmarried woman from a village in Scotland. The world has also discovered "I Dreamed a Dream" from the 24-year-old original London cast recording of "Les Mis."

In less than 24 hours, the song appeared at No. 48 on Apple's iTunes Top 100 downloaded songs. And five "Les Mis" albums are now in the Top 25 Soundtracks, including Nos. 3, 9, 15, 22 and 23. Only "Hannah Montana: The Movie" and "Twilight" are more popular.

It even beats out No. 4 "Slumdog Millionaire" and No. 8 "Wicked."

As a side note, "American Idol" contestant Kris Allen performed the song "Falling Slowly" from the 2007 movie "Once." The Academy Award-winning song by Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova is No. 18 on iTunes' Top 100 songs; the soundtrack is No. 4 on the Top 25 Soundtracks chart.

Susan Boyle causes Les Miserables in London to sell out

Susan Boyle is causing sell out performances of Les Miserables in London's West End after her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream for Britain's Got Talent.

Sales of tickets for the long-running musical have increased by 46 per cent since Boyle performed the song in the first round of the talent show.

I Dreamed a Dream is a solo sung by character Fantine in Act 1 in the stage production of the Victor Hugo novel. Boyle's version attracted more hits than any other You Tube clip.

Mark Bower, head of lifestyle products for lastminute.com who discovered the rise said: " There has been a clear knock-on effect from Susan Boyle singing 'I dreamed a dream'.

"After her performance ticket sales shot up almost overnight and have maintained a consistent level of popularity."

Gotta credit her for that.

:funny: I wonder how many people think the song was originally sung by Krusty The Clown.

Nice to see it again, but I posted it this morning. :oldrazz: Got lost in all the Susan Boyle posts!

After always hearing his as Valjean it's SO weird hearing him talk so... normally.

Here's one more tweet from someone who was presumably watching Hugh sing "Bring Him Home" since she's not in the scene. They are making the waiting very hard.

Samantha barks @SamanthaBarks
@RealHughJackman how you feeling after yesterday? Can only describe it in one word... STUNNING! Congratulations! X

Damn...some people have really cruel things to say about the leaked trailer. "Where's Marni Nixon when you need her?", etc. Do they not understand that the trailer isn't the finished product? That it's a work-in-progress? As for me, the leaked trailer blew me away. It was raw and it felt so real, like Les Mis should feel. And yet all people can do is ***** that Anne doesn't sound perfect. That she sounds...*gasp*...like what an actual distraught and broken human being would sound like rather than autotuned crap.

People don't realize that Tom Hooper wanted the actors to sing live because he wants them to capture the raw emotions of the moment, and not to sound exactly as if they were singing on the stage in Broadway. And Hathaway just sings like she was instructed to, because if you have heard her voice before, you'd know that she has an amazing set of pipes.

Btw, when will we get an official teaser trailer?

I'm surprised they're still shooting this film. It's coming out in seven months, and they're not even in post-production. I know musicals have a shortened production time than other films, but... man.

And Anne is a great singer. I don't know why people like to bag on her, but she and Emmy Rossum are amazing.

The pup's not growing up... :waa:

Fra Fee @frafee
Wot a day...I failed to rescue gavroche many many...many times...knackered..!

When they posted that photo of Hugh and Colm Wilkinson on their Facebook page, half the comments complained about why Colm wasn't playing the part in the movie...despite the fact that he first played the role almost 30 years ago.

People are dumb.

people hate change. they want it to remain the same as it was 30 years ago.

Agreed. If the critics are so high and mighty they should try themselves. :cwink:

I think a lot of people are expecting it to sound exactly like the stage show - they are going to compare all the actors to every single actor in every single show they've seen. Movies are completely different from stage, people! And the people that saw the FULL teaser were blown away - who knows what she sounded like at the beginning, and then slowly went into desperation by the end of the song. I have a feeling the songs are going to sound very different than on stage and some of the "purists" are going to complain because they don't know the difference.

Today is the last day for the "barricade boys" - I think basically only the Thenardier stuff is left and probably some stuff with JVJ/Cosette/Marius. Believe it or not, Hugh is back in NY again, he was at an event last night. He must have left after his filming on Wednesday was done. I'm assuming he's back on Monday. There's not much filming left, and he does have that little bit about accepting a special Tony Award on June 10.

I remember when Russell Crowe was tweeting about the horse he would be riding in the movie, people responded with "Javert shouldn't be riding a horse!!!"

I don't think they realize that the characters get to go outside now that they're not confined to the stage.

What people want is to have a rotating floor underneath the actors so they can go round and round and magically appear in another scene. :hehe:
