    Happy Valentine's Day, Guest!

The Dark Knight Too Much, Too Soon?

Fanboys (us):

Batman Begins--Not promoted enough ala too little, too late.
The Dark Knight--Too much, too soon.

WB to us: WHATTA WANT FROM US?!?!?!

Hit the nail on the head here. It's too cold, too hot, it's never .... just right.

I definatley have to disagree with the OP. This isn't too much too soon at all. I've been saying for the longest time that they need to get a Joker pic out ASAP so that fans who hate the cut-smile idea can either stop worrying about getting a cut-smile Joker or start accepting that we're getting a cut-smile Joker.

Now that I know what we're getting, I have well over a year to grow to accept it. I would not be very pleased at all if this thing was thrown at me while I was in the movie theater.

You can lay off the little digs guys - I'm a veteran of the Begins hype from 03, I know what's going on.

As I said, and I stand by it - it is PERFECT marketing, there is just a small part of me that feels this far away from the film is too long - look how long it took for Venom to be revealed; comic-con would have been perfect.

But hey what do I know huh?
You're certainly living up to your name.

It annoys me and is one of the reasons I stopped posting here - we'll have a mutual love for the character yet as soon as an opinion is shared that doesn't match the norm you become an outsider. We used to have balanced discussions on here - not anymore.

Well, you gotta realize - they HAD to show us that Joker this soon.

It will take some people a year to get used to it.

I admit that my first reaction was abject horror at what they had done to Joker.

But that was also my first reaction to the Begins bat-suit, which I have come to love. I'm getting used to this version of the Joker. I don't hate it. I don't love it.

I do, however, accept it. And I'm even beginning to sort of like it.

exactly....I mean, can't you already see the discussions on the boards once actual footage of how this look actually translates on screen...
"Wow...I wasn't sure I liked this look until I saw the trailer"

Its all gonna come down to how Ledger plays the part anyway...will he be able to sell the finished product or not?

It's just one little picture. Of course it's not too much, too soon! :whatever:

I agree, it's not like we read the script, saw the new Batsuit, new Batmobile, or teaser. it's just a picture.

But...... we're the reason they released the picture. All this constant speculation, fake manip after fake manip, begging for an official release, and fanboys have the nerve to ask if it's too much?? lmao

You can never have enough hype for TDk IMO. THere just starting there marketing early which is great.

THE SUSH!!! You said it perfectly. I feel exactly how you feel on this one

Is it possible that with over 400 days still left until DK is released Warners have given us too much already? Don't get me wrong, what has been revealed and the way it's been done so far has been impressive - but I can't help feeling this is the type of campaign we should be seeing in 6 months.

What, and how much, more can they show us in these next 14 months? I don't want to be saturated with Bat stuff to the point of becoming less interested come July 08 - less can be more.

Discuss!
I felt with the first BB there wasn't enough at the beginning' especially at SDCC :o :cmad: , so I say bring it on WB with TDK!

I won't read the script though. ;)

That's why movie studios don't listen to fans.

Why? Because we're mind-numbingly ******ed.

LMAO, that's sig-worthy right there!

It's just one little picture. Of course it's not too much, too soon! :whatever:

Exactly. I'm thinking back on the X3 hype and it seems like at the one year mark we already had some major plot points leaked. As long as that doesn't happen here, I'll be happy.

So long as the add campaign is solely comprised of Joker pranks, there is no such thing as "too much."

I really like the way the TDK campaign has begun but I kind of agree with you; I think WB should lay off giving much if any info/promos on TDK until SDCC; less is more and if they lay off for a while they will have us wanting more which is better than bombarding us with promos etc...

I couldn't agree more. LESS IS MORE! Just give us small amounts of what we want...The marketing should be very "film noir" in the sense of allowing people to use their imaginations. I think they should lay off from giving vital info and still photos, but keep things fresh and updated by changing things up a bit (i.e. IBIHDToo.com). They still have to keep people interested.

theres still a lot they havent shown about the joker so i dont think its alot at all. We havent seen him smile, we dont know what he looks like with green hair, we dont know what his clothing looks like, we havent really seen his eyes because of the darkness of the picture.

When they don't show anything about the movie, you people start complaining and stuff, but when they show us just a small picture, you complain that there's to much to soon ; now how does that makes sense?

Unlike the Spider-Man 3 trailers.

Yup.

....I didn't realize there was already a thread about this, so I'll just post here what I posted in the non-spoiler side:

Now that I think about it -- especially if Joker's appearance does go through stages -- I kind of wish they hadn't released that photo.

Here's what I mean: that image is kind of a spoiler, in its way. If that disfigurement is something that happens during the course of the movie, it would be way more shocking and have a much greater impact if it were held back until the film is actually released. If I had no idea that was coming, when it inevitably unspooled, I'd probably be thinking that nothing was safe, anything could happen, etc.

So much material was released on Spider-Man 3 that I haven't even needed to bother to go see it. I know what happens. I've seen the fight scenes, I've seen some of the dramatic scenes.

I know it's obviously up to me to look away, and I've definitely done some of that. But when the knowledge is out there, you stumble onto it in forums accidentally, or a friend mentions something they assumed you already knew, etc.

I really hope Warners doesn't put too much out there. Though, with Spider-Man 3's box office through the roof that opening weekend, studios probably think that's the best marketing these days. But I really want Nolan's movie to surprise me.

Too much? WB and Nolan hasn't given us S***!

Its all just speculation. Even the pic of Ledger has not been confirmed by WB and even if its legit, all we see is a face that make be an early version and one were his eyes are shaded.

All that WB is doing right now is wetting our whistles. They are doing fine from a marketing standpoint so far. They are pros at this.
