The Dark Knight Too much Joker...Not enough Batman??

bonjour ;)

i don't speak french so don't reply in it :D

i don't think they will keep that until tv spots, we have already heard parts of his laugh... i do think we will see allot in December though.:yay:
Yeah but not before (and even in the trailer it won't be that much) !!!!:cwink: :woot: (I won't reply in french, don't worry, enough english in my mouth to chat)!

Joker's dropping clues through all these sites. Batman's sitting back, waiting in the shadows, analyzing the clues like a detective would do.

Well, aside from that, Batman doesn't strike me as the type of character who would have a person website. Ey?

Uhh...not to demean any Bat-fan out there, but hasn't The Joker always overcasted Batman when he shows up? Doesn't The Joker overcast...everybody when he shows up?

Joker is supposed to be over-the-top. I'm glad he's getting as much attention as he is...and so what if Bats gets more screen-time? Batman is two people, whereas Joker is only one.

Besides that, we got a lot more going on than just Batman and Joker. We got Rachel, Dent, Scarecrow, Two-Face, and a bunch o' random thugs.

Let me start by saying that I believe this movie is going to rock hard core, just because Chris Nolan is back and I love his work. But, with that said, I can't help but worry that it is turning into more of a joker movie with Batman in it, rather than a Batman movie with the joker in it. Every piece of the viral marketing scheme has been about the joker thus far....nothing about Batman. The only thing so far, as far as I know, that we have been given regarding Batman is that one picture in the new suit. I guess you could throw in the "bat-pod" too, but that's it. I just don't want this to turn into one of those comic book movies where the villian overcasts the Hero...Afterall it is titled The Dark Knight!

I'm curious if anyone else is getting this same feeling...your thoughts?
Nolan has confirmed somewhere that Bale is going to get much more screentime than Joker. Since Joker is the most popular supervillain ever, they are using him as a marketing icon. It makes sense, but it doesn't mean that he is going to "steal the show." He isn't going to get anywhere near the amount of screentime that Nicholson received.

It's just marketing.

Viral marketing fits Joker's character(causing chaos and 'panic'). It's really awesome what they're doing with it, and a cool way to use the internet to introduce the Joker.

I believe that we'll get an equal ammount of villain and hero screen time. The only reason why they are going to market this with the joker is because hes right up there in popularity with batman. The studio will know how to market this: by shoving the joker in every form of marketing for this flick.

only on this site does joker get the better portion of attention; probably due to the fact that we (posters, fanboys, etc.) have more in common with J than bats, but that is another post.

satan got better lines in paradise lost. for a reason.

for most people the scales are this:

trailer: alfred gets the most lines. nobody *****es about that (yet, but please don't).

other media: bats wins. the new suit, the cycle, bale have had more mainstream press than ledger/joker.

easy answers: business as usual marketing would be to plug bale/bats as established commodities, and it's being done in mainstream press. gadgets and director also get face time. hide the ball (joker) for anticiaption and ticket sales.
online marketing, targeting more savvy fans, pushes unknowns (joker, etc.).

had answer: joker, dent, even when on-screen, will be part of BATMAN movie and counterpieces to both batman and bruce. I have no doubt bats and bruce will get the bulk of the storyline, however the screentime totals play out. (also remeber bats should be counted as bruce and bats, not just bats).

We haven't seen the movie, we haven't even seen any footage. What possible reason would one have to believe that his thing will focus on Joker? The marketing? He's a new character, a popular character and a character who lends himself perfectly to this kind of marketing - it by no means proves that he'll he the focus of the movie.

They´re focusing a lot on Joker now cuz it´s the new element of the movie, and cuz the character is so iconic and hasn´t been on screen for almost twenty years. But Nolan and Goyer always made clear that the goal was to keep Batman the focus of the franchise.

I agree the Joker is a hugely recognizable character, and fans want to see what Nolan is doing with him...I think I am just ready for more Batman info!

Regardless of who gets more screentime, Ledger argueably has more "star power" than Bale. Combine that with The Joker, argueably the best villian ever and you have a force to be reckoned with.

I hope Bale is on his game because The Dark Knight looks as though its going to be another B89 aka The Joker movie.

That's my BIGGEST fear with TDK, to much Joker and not enough Batman, just like Batman '89. Joker was obviously the star of that pic, and Batman a co-star in his own damn movie. Hopefully this will not be the case with Nolan's vision.

I remember an interview with Chris or Jonathan Nolan saying that it's called The Dark Knight for a reason.

We shouldn't worry, the movie's still going to be about Batman. :batty:

Exactly! Anyone else love the fact that at the end of the teaser it just says "The Dark Knight". Puts away all those possible rumours that the studio heads still wanted to slap the word "Batman" before it in case the audience wouldn't know what it was. :whatever:

I don't have any worries that they'll overshadow Batman with the Joker in this film. With BB it showed us Bales performance of Batman. People who liked it have accepted it. It's Ledger with the big shoes to fill so to speak. So many people in the general audience group think Nicholson when they think of the Joker. They need to pump Ledgers' Joker up for this movie.

think of it as Spiderman... in this movie joker is minor so they'll let us see him early... but the true star is Batman ie: "Venom in the hypes world" so lets hold onto him till the movie almost... caz everyone knows bats is the *****.

I doubt joker role is minor. hes got a second billing

Cool thing is this time it's not before Bales' name. Like in Batman '89, Nicholson had top billing over Keaton. Yeah I know, he's Jack Nicholson. Still, Keaton was playing the main hero.

In descending order of screentime:

Batman+Bruce
Dent
Joker
Scarecrow,Maroni

Dent needs alot more setup and character work if he's to be scarred in this film, Joker can just pop in and out, make a big splash, then go into hiding again. He'll still walk away with the film

Good point but I highly doubt Dent will have more screentime than Joker.

Yeah, c'mon...Dent had his shot, but missed out in BB. Let's not take that mistake out on the return of comic book lore's greatest villain, eh? :o

Dent and Joker should have roughly the same screentime. As you have said dent needs a lot of development but so does the joker

This is the last thing to worry about. Batman will have more scenes in The Dark Knight than he had in Begins anyway.

Yeah that was annoying. I bought the SE DVD of 89 a few months ago and on the bill it said "NICHOLSONS BATMAN", which was strange to me.

To me he's the mysterious bogeyman that shouldn't be explained, beyond implication. We have the next sequel for more Joker
