1. Micheal Jackson I loved him before he died and after he died I started linsing to more of his songs has I had only heard his greatest hits and even a lot of his songs that are not greatest hits are awesome and the guy could dance. Songs like street walker, Invesable, 2000 watts, unbreakable the list of great songs that are not even in his greatest hits but that are awesome just goes on and on. Also his songs have such a different sound to them then any one else.

2. Tom petty kind of like Jackson has a lot of great songs and no one sounds like him.

3. Journey

Yeah I know that is just how I fell but I know that the beattes are very popular.

All Time?

:shr:

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - at the age of 5 he was playing keyboard and violin as well as composing his first songs for royalty.

Ludwig van Beethoven - composer and performer, he was deaf for the last decade of his life and continued composing.

Freddy Mercury (Queen)

John Lennon (The Beatles)

The last spot is tough to decide upon. However, I think I'll give it to...

Fats Domino - pianist, singer & songwriter with hits in the 1950's.

What's the sudden praise for Fats? Top five of all time - a joke?

1. Johann Sebastian Bach -- enriched harmony, motif, counterpoint. Adapted Italian and French rhythms and forms to German music, and thus to the classical style that developed after him. Inspired Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, and others to use counterpoint more, thus helping to inspire post-Baroque classical music.
2. Claudio Monteverdi -- combined polyphony with the Baroque basso continuo, wrote one of the earliest surviving operas that are still performed, marked the transition from Renaissance to Baroque music
3. Arcangelo Corelli -- invented tonality as we know it today.
4. Hucbald -- wrote the first systematic treatise on Western music theory. May have been the first to set up a system of polyphony in western music.
5. Arnold Schoenberg -- developed the twelve-tone technique, innovated atonality, developing variations, and motifs

Not a joke, I wanted someone with hits around the beginning of the Rock'n'Roll era, and he inspired both Lennon and McCartney.

wikipedia said:
Domino released five gold (million-copy-selling) records before 1955.[1] He also had 35 Top 40 American hits ...

Also according to wiki he had record releases from 1949 to 1980, which is a pretty excellent career span.

4 or 5 of everyone's list should be dead composers. Bar none.

It's top musicians of all time. Not "your favorite" musicians of all time.

And if your 5th choice is anyone born after 1975 you're also wrong.

When I made this thread I meant to say favorite musicians of all time. I don't know how much of a difference that makes but that is what I meant by it gusse I should have called it top 5 favorite musicians of all time. Changing it right now if I can. Ok I got it to work changed it so care on everyone.

Jerry Lee Lewis recorded songs from mid-50s up until 2009/10 (not sure which). That's a longer recording career.

When it comes to rock & roll piano players and their place in the history of music, do they really deserve a spot in Top 5 musicians of all time?
If so, Jerry Lee has the advantage when comparing the two of them. He made a bigger impact, he's just bigger icon than Fats.
And in terms of actual musical skills, "The killer" is more talented, right?

Let's see...

Fats had 5 golden records before 1955
Jerry didn't start recording until 1956... I wonder where he might have gotten some of his inspiration from.

Jerry has about a dozen golden records total.
Fats had about 20.

I still think Fats was a bigger influence on Rock then Jerry.

Elvis Presley
Johnny Cash
James Brown
Aretha Franklin
Louis Armstrong

Elvis Presley
Johnny Cash
James Brown
Aretha Franklin
Louis Armstrong
Tupac
Bob Dylan
Bob Marley
Michael Jackson
Jay-Z

The majority of these are more of singers/performers and song writers, that's what they're seen as.
Granted, they influenced music a lot. But the only actual musician in those two lists is Armstrong, right?

Pantera
Alice in Chains
Death
Pink Floyd
Greg Sage/The Wipers

Presley and Cash are both musicians. They both played guitar and Elvis could also play piano as well.
