Toy Story 4

I wouldn't worry too much about the director. It was all probably conceptualized/storyboarded out under Lasseter & Co anyway, and they're not going to trust Toy Story of all their properties to someone they don't have total faith in. It's one thing for an original property taking a gamble, but they're not going to **** around with Woody & Buzz.

Lasseter hasn't been a strong part of the creative for a long time. He was most hands on with Cars after all, and well... yeah.

They've matured in their filmmaking, of course, but the thing is I think their earliest stuff is still miles away from many of the current stuff in animation. They've paved the way for Dreamworks, Blue Sky, Illumination, etc. And much of their films still aren't as good as the first Toy Story or even A Bug's Life, which I think is their most underrated work. It's a A+ studio which makes it much difficult for them when they don't get a GREAT film, they fail in comparison with their best work. Luckily they still got it.
A Bug's Life really hasn't aged well imo. As a kid I liked it well enough. As an adult, I have trouble finishing it. I do think it is an okay movie, but it is right there with A Good Dinosaur as too boring for me to really care. And Seven Samurai is one of my 3 favorite films of all time.

Arguably they have had more truly great films post Toy Story 3 then before. I honestly don't know in what work Inside Out or Coco are just "okay", and A Bug's Life is a classic of sorts.

Ehh, Cars was fine. I never saw any of the sequels/spinoffs/TV whatevers, but the original wasn't really below usual Pixar standards.

Cars 2 was awful, mostly because it's about Mater, not Lightning. Cars 3 was better because they put the focus back on Lightning but it still seemed to exist mostly to make up for the mistakes in Cars 2.

I had no idea this was so far along. Last I heard, they were re-writing the script!!
As much as I'm looking forward to it, I thought Toy Story 3 was the perfect send off for them.

Has anyone seen the shorts? Small Fry, Hawaiian Vacation, Partysaurus Rex, Toy Story of Terror!, Toy Story That Time Forgot?
Most of them are truly great and for me they show that there's still A LOT of stuff to be made in that universe.

So according to tim allen Keanu Reeves is also in this. Was it mentioned before?

While I completely agree that pre-Toy Story 3 Pixar is not the infallible masterpiece generator that many claim. (I would add Monsters Inc. to the likes of A Bug's Life as not having aged amazingly well.) I still think pre-Toy Story 3 is more consistent than post-Toy Story 3 Pixar.

I count the truly great pre-Toy Story 3 film as : Toy Story, Toy Story 2, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Up. Post-Toy Story 3, they have had Inside Out and Coco.

Incredibles 2 is well made, but it doesn't have the layers and insight of Pixar's best works. What social themes that are there feel incredibly dated and out of touch (stay at home Dad struggling while Mom tries to revive her career after a period as a homemaker, etc.) Finding Nemo and Finding Dory are good and all, but I never found them to be among Pixar's best. They are well-made but just don't have that something extra that makes other Pixar films outstanding.

Oh gawd, what does this mean for Slinky?

Would anyone be interested in a story about another Woody doll that got abandoned and wasn't loved like Andy's?

The bitter, angry abandoned toy theme has already been done with Lotso. And while it'd be interesting to have him come across another Woody, we've also done that with Buzz in TS2 coming across an entire aisle of Buzz Lightyears.

Though come to think of it, that should really happen a lot more often. There must be more kids who have Potato Head toys and Slinky Dogs, etc., but apparently Andy was the only kid on his block to have those. The only toy we've seen multiples of is Buzz, Barbie and (sort of) Lotso.

Is finding Bo Beep the main plot of the film or has it changed?

I'm happy to see that character back, it'd be 20 years. Watching Toy Story 3 without her and without any explanation was confusing.

The problem with Cars was that it was a cgi cartoon made for old people. My dad loved it, my younger brother and I hated it.

I imagine it'll be a side plot. She's just not an interesting enough character to warrant a whole film focused on her. But Toy Story 3 did offer an explanation, though it was brief. It was implied she was either given away or sold at a yard sale.

Woody: "We've lost friends along the way... Wheezy... and Etch and..."
Rex: "Bo Peep?"
Woody: "...Yeah. Even - even Bo."

Interesting that her right arm is wrapped up. Was she broken?
