Disney had to sell more toys to kids.I liked Duke Caboom most out of the new characters but overall I was annoyed that the OG characters got pushed to the sidelines in favor of them.
To be fair, 3 is the one that kind of established throwing a whole bunch of new toys into the mix. 4 just went about it… differently.Disney had to sell more toys to kids.![]()
3 threw a bunch of new ones at us but none of them were pushed to the forefront at the expense of the established characters. Lotso, Ken and Bonnie's toys kind of carved out their own space and didn't feel pushed on us like the Key and Peele stuffed animals in 4.To be fair, 3 is the one that kind of established throwing a whole bunch of new toys into the mix. 4 just went about it… differently.
Problem isn't thinking of something new. The problem is getting the money approved and justifying the investment to a board of people who knows KNOWN BRAND NAME nets them a bonus for the quarter."...because we can't think of anything new."
True. The days of Pixar priding themselves on focusing on original films and mostly staying away from sequels are gone, and it is what it is. But I find it curious as to why they're leaning so hard on Toy Story when they have other viable franchises like Cars, Finding Nemo/Dory, Monsters Inc, etc. that they can milk instead. Aw, who am I kidding? Those are probably all in the works too.Problem isn't thinking of something new. Monsters Inc is getting a theme park land now, so I assume that sequel is already on the way. Cars though, Cars I think is a twofold thing. The first, it's Lasseter's baby seemingly more than any other movie/series they had. Second, it peaked at Cars 2 which didn't make $600 million. It does gangbusters for merchandising, but I think theatrically it's got a much lower ceiling and they're probably raking in plenty of merch with their soon to be two theme park lands.True.
