TPBs Bought/Thought Thread

actually, I agree with you completely (including the titles you mentioned)

Thank you for showing me the light that is Planetary Eli.I can't stop reading through book 3,too good.

Have you read American Way yet Eli?

nope, not yet. My comic reading has slowed down as more of the real world creeps into my life

Box Office Poison -
Hilarious, addictive, and among the most accurate depictions of early-20s life that I’ve witnessed on screen or in print.

BOP! More Box Office Poison -
Not a necessary read, but a nice-enough collection of short stories from the BOP universe.

Blankets -
Raw, nostalgic emotion; easily one of the best graphic novels I’ve read. It’s enormous - 600 pages long - but even though I’m a ridiculously slow reader, I got through it in less than a week.

Punisher MAX: From First to Last -
The inspiration for The Punisher’s beginning, some of his most important ‘work’, and his end. Among Ennis’s best Punisher stories.

Darknick - you might want to read "Tricked", Alex Robinson's next Graphic Novel after BOP, next

The American Way I've seen reviews online where people compare this to Watchmen. It's nothing like it at all.In fact,it's better, yea I said it.

There's so much I loved about this.To keep it short,Ridley does what Cooke and Robinson did with NF and GA and really transports the reader into a time of uncertainty, tension and little hope.

The premise of this is enough to warrant to an ongoing, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon. One of the best comics I've ever read.

10/10

Hmmm,I was reading over JSA Liberty Files again today,I don't think I ever did a review on it.

Harris' character designs are perfection. They actually look like costumes, you can see every wrinkle and every fold on each hero.

There are some chilling pages here like the page of Jonn floating while talking to Hitler in his office, the double page nazi eradication spread and the page with Kent revealing his real name.

They really nailed the whole "covert spy mission" feel with both stories. And I am a sucker for these superhero period pieces.

9/10

I'm about done with Avengers Assemble volume Four. It's coming up on the point where I started reading the Avengers during Busieks run. (Which turns out, was almost the end. Maximum Security was pretty good. Question though, did Quasar ever get rid of Ego?

Hawkman Endless Flight is up next.I bought this one after looking for some solid Hawkman solo stuff.

The owner of my shop, super nice guy, told me to save my money and only pick up the first trade. He said the following 3 trades were a bit muddled and not as good.

My friend lent me Invincible Volumes: 1 through 7. I ordered 8 and I will buy my first Invicible Comic #42 when it comes out.

I was collecting the past Justice League TPB's. I think I need like 2 more before they went to the new JLA but I feel like the Obsidian Age was the last good storyline.

Actually I take that back, the last one with the League breaking up was alright.

JLA Year One is a great story you should check out.

So yea, thinking about getting some more Super Friends goodness with Hawkman Endless Flight and Aquaman Time and Tide.

Thinking about picking up some Flash stuff to complete it all.I know Waid and Johns have tonnes of Flash trades out there, but I don't have the budget to get every single one.Which are the cream of the crop?

Flash Born to run and The Return of Barry Allen by Waid

For Johns, Rogues, Blitz, Ignition, Rogue War

So I picked up Hawkman: Endless Flight.

Really enjoyed this a great deal.I really enjoyed Hawkman's savagery during the actions scenes, and people call DC the "lighter" universe,
rolleyes.gif
."Do Nothing!"That was classic.

The first arc with the hunt for the crystal could have easily been a disaster.Very fun adventure type story.I enjoyed Hawkman's reaction when he saw the Elephant slaves, speaks volumes about the character.Even though he seems like an ass with alot of fascist beliefs, the guy believes in what's right.

The 2 parter with Ollie was just perfect.I loved Kendra's threat in the beginning. The highlight was obviously the bickering between Carter and Ollie and the amazing fight scene with The Spider.

So are the next 2 volumes just as good and worth picking up?

Blankets- I would like to say to everyone on this board who wrote recommendations for this book: Thank you. In case you haven't guessed, I loved it. The art is gorgeous and expressive, the story is beautiful and painfully sincere, and I have to admit, it's the closest a work of art has come to making me cry in a long time. In fact, every page is either tear-jerkingly beautiful or tear-jerkingly tragic. It gets my highest recommendation: seven thumbs up. And a 10/10

Buy it or your life has no meaning. :cmad:

Glad you liked it, Thompson's next project sounds oddly intereting too.

finally! I was wondering when the hell you were gonna finish it :P

Go for it. I thought John's entire run on the Hawks was decent. Though better stuff was done with the character in JSA. Palmotti and Gray's run wasn't that bad either. Not essential, but if you're interested in the character....
