TPBs Bought/Thought Thread

I've actually read very little Hellblazer, Swamp thing or Lucifer, so I can't vouch for their quality (although obviously alot of people like them) I was just pointing out that they're in the DCU.

Here's a list of Wildstorm titles. Everything in the big column on the left is in the same universe, anything in other sections is in its own universe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wildstorm_titles

Image is alot bigger so I'd have to write out by hand what books are shared universe and which aren't

Sweet thanks Elijya, I'll check that out. Since i'm actually home now I checked out my 'non-spandex' section and remembered that I also have

100 bullets Vol.1
Conan Vol.1: Frost Giants Daughter
Conan: Demons of Khitai
Conan: Books of Toth
Conan: Songs of the Dead

I dont' know how I forgot my 4 volumes of Conan lol

Alan Moore's run on Swamp Thing, I thought, was very well done. I was only in grade school when it came originally came out so I never read it for years.

Scalped: Indian Country
Dark Blue
The Authority: Relentless
Scars
Y the last man:Unmanned
The League of Extraordinary Men Vol 1

waiting in the mail for
Rising Stars: Born in the fire vol 1
invincible family matters vol 1
criminal coward vol 1

I bought Daredevil: Hell to Pay on PhotoJones' recommendation. After years of total indifference to Daredevil, I think I may finally be getting interested in his comics. I think it's the personal interplay between him and his wife, and how his superheroing and lawyering is taking a toll on their marriage, that interests me most in this run. It's been done virtually every time a hero gets married, but Brubaker's still managing to make it feel fresh and interesting in this case. I also like courtroom dramas, and Matt's investigation into Melvin Potter's case in this TPB reminded me a lot of The Practice and all those other shows I loved. And wow, what a cliffhanger at the end of this trade. Matt's wife may now be an accidental manslaughterer? Yeesh. Of course, there's also the phenomenal art of Michael Lark to top it off, whom I'd missed since Gotham Central folded. I'll be continuing with the ongoing series for as long as he and Brubaker are on the series.

Nope. Maybe I started it too late, but the fact that his secret identity ordeal became so overblown and ridiculous that it was a parody of itself got to me. Plus, the stories that I did read from Bendis, while decent, had the typical Bendis hallmarks of too much talking, too much decompression, too much of a lot of things I don't really care for in superhero comics. Brubaker's struck a much better balance between the superheroing and court drama and interpersonal drama.

I got the new edition of Tales of the TMNT Volume 1 TPB and it's a very enjoyable read. It's interesting to see the first appearance of characters like Rat King and Leatherhead before they were adapted in the cartoon.

Got League of Extrodinary Gentelmen: The BLack Dossier. Good stuff so far. Finished the chapters on Orlando. Very cool. Very cool. Great book so far.

what do u guys think of transmetropiltian? i got the first 3 for christmas thinking id love them cuz ive heard good reviews but i finished the first one and thought it was just "ok"..whats ur guys opinions?

also:
bought Preacher Vol. 1, id have to say my new favorite comic story ive read in a while.

absolute watchmen for christmas: obviously sweet.

fables Vol. 1 and 2. i thought 1 was pretty neat. kinda like the watchmen where all the old fables instead of heroes are retired, except the one b. wolf. similar to rorschach and his detective story. havent started 2 yet.

100 bullets Vol. 1-3. finished 1. ok. i was expecting something else but il read the next two anyway.

black hole. excited to read it.

You're missing out dude.Bendis' run is still much better than Brubaker's.

But yes,it is better read from the beginning.I can't imagine jumping on any later than Out and trying to read it.

I don't agree. Bendis' run bored me. That's why I skipped the first two volumes of Brubaker's run, in fact--he was basically just cleaning up the giant mess Bendis left him with, judging from synopses of the issues.

But we already know my tastes run far, far different from yours, so we'll just agree to disagree.

You read Devil in Cell Block D Corp? I actually liked that arc more than any of Bendis's arc's.

Nope, that was part of one of the two earlier Brubaker trades. I'm 100% uninterested in seeing anything more to do with the now-comical subject of Daredevil's outed secret identity and the various cover-ups and ramifications associated with it, of which Matt's stay in jail is a part.

Um, actually Brubaker ASKED him to end his run like that because he thought it would be really cool to write DD in jail

Why are you so hateful...

...whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy?????????????????????????

It is my way. Society has made me what I am. Don't judge me, judge my bureaucratic masters. :(

I'm currently reading DC Universe:The Stories Of Alan Moore. This is a really good read, alot of this i'm reading for the first time.

^^ yeah thats sweet ive got that too

asfor the books i got for chirstmas i just read transmetroplitan vol.2 i absolutly loved it..i dont know why i didnt like the first so much but wow LOVED vol. 2...100 bullets vol.2 was good also. i thought fables vol.2 was o..k..ill probably get 3 just for the hell of it. black hole was fanatsic

Yeah, keep reading Fables. It gets much better. MUCH better.

I just read the first Loveless trade. Pretty cool, still, not as good as I expected.

I just bought Robert Kirkman's Tech Jacket TPB. It felt a little rushed in its pacing, but was otherwise amazing. I strongly wish that the title could continue on, rather than the character just making small guest appearances here and there. Where a lot of titles from DC and Marvel seem to be repelling me these days, Image's Superhero Universe (with no small effort from Robert Kirkman's contributions of Invincible, Wolf-Man, and Tech Jacket, to name a few) just draws me in more and more. I also just bought and finished reading the eighth volume of Invincible, and can't wait for the ninth.:up:

I dropped Loveless after a couple arcs. It was good enough, but I found myself getting bored. I was never a huge fan of westerns; maybe that's why.

I just bought and read the first trade of Virgin Comics' Devi. I don't really know much about Hinduism, but that didn't really matter. The story was good, and the art was pretty damn nice-- particularly during the scenes where the heroine is blessed by the gods. My only real complaint is that Tara, the Devi's reincarnation, wasn't fleshed out very well. However, it's an ongoing series, so I supposed that problem will fix itself with time. I'm gonna try out the second trade to see where this book's strengths really lie, now that the whole backstory is complete.

Devi, India's first superheroine. Not bad.

I just read the first arc of Loveless, dropped it after that. Just wasn't as exciting as the other Western that came out around the same time, Hex, which is still awesome after thrity issues. Can't wait for that man with no name to come out.
